"The massage therapist arrived in a timely fashion, and was extremely knowledgeable. I had a huge knot in my neck that was extremely uncomfortable, and Brandon zeroed in on the problem area and helped out a lot. Would hire again."

"Jason is gifted. He understands light, shadow, line and movement. He sees art even in mundane settings. He is professional and honest. He directs well and makes you feel comfortable. He's able to frame finished images in his mind before he even clicks the camera. I don't know how he does that. Jason is incredibly talented, has a positive personality and a good man."

"Chad was very pleasant from the start. His home was very inviting, clean, and safe. He gave me a debrief on his experiences and specialties. His background in Kinesiology works in his favor, he is very aware of the anatomy, and knows exactly how to target the pressure points, properly. The mood was set, and he use an adequate amount of oil (I dislike for a masseur to use too much), and he was conversational and kind the entire time. Additionally, his height worked in his favor, as well, because he is able to move fluidly and adequately apply his body weight to maximize the massage experience. I left feeling light, loose, and less stress. Lastly, Chad also took the time to educate me on the muscles groups and small parts of the body/muscles that I was not aware of. Overall, great experience and I will return for another great session."

"Leo has been my personal trainer for nearly 16 years. During that time, his instruction has been professional, caring, and geared to my personal needs and capabilities. I feel that my overall health, strength, stability, and knowledge that I have about my own physical abilities are due in large part to my association with Leo. I appreciate his accommodating my schedule, the flexibility of our sessions, and the comfortable, friendly vibe of our time together. He not only works on strength training, but is also able to incorporate core work, balance, compound exercises, hand/eye coordination, flexibility, endurance, and nutrition information, all with encouragement and positive reinforcement."

"Organic Escape is the best massage I've ever had. Felt SO relaxed afterwards. Luis is very kind and attentive. Beyond massage, Organic Escape offers neuromuscular therapy to heal injuries and conditions like carpal tunnel and TMJ. Luis does an excellent job educating you about how the body works and teaches you how to counteract the negative habits we form in our daily lives, such as "text neck.""

"Lindsey is an expert at massage therapy. She uses the best quality therapeutic grade essential oils for massage. She is one of the few massage therapists in Los Angeles that is Certified in Aromatouch Technique. My immune system was feeling really low and I scheduled an appointment with Lindsey for an Aromatouch Technique. She worked her magic on my back and feet and used her amazing essential oils. I felt so much better by the next day and by the second day I was fully recovered! I owe it to Lindsey's amazing massage. I will be getting regular massages from Lindsey. Not only is she reliable, flexible, punctual and professional, but she is caring and kind."

"I traveled the world. I done what most people dream about. Saying all that I get minimal 2 massages weekly. My body has seen quite a bit of trauma. Kz is a world class massage therapist. I saw her during my stay in AZ. I was in process of buying a house. Once I return I will definitely reschedule with her seeing I am going to lose my regular therapist when I move. Bought a house in Mesa."

"A massage with Obele is worthy of beyond 5 stars. He provides a professional, high quality, and relaxing environment. He is attentive and his hands are intuitive to read what your body needs, beyond what you may have verbally communicated. There's no cookie cutter massage with a true healer and a strong knowledge of human anatomy. He also incorporates what he has learned as a Chinese Medical Student to bring balance in ways that most of us may overlook. "

"Lama Jigme Tenzin has a powerful gift of Tibetan Buddhist healing energy that he is able to transmit during treatments. The effects of his spiritual massage reach levels way beyond traditional massage. Jigme's gift most certainly developed as a result of years living and training as a Buddhist monk and Lama. We are fortunate he came to the West and is offering this deeply beneficial, one-of-a-kind service. His treatments reach way beyond the physical body, and leave you feeling a deeper connection to the Spirit within. Highly recommended. Julie Lilly-Belote and William Belote"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
