Was quick to get the work done. Labor rate didn't change, but more parts were needed, so he only charged extra for the cost of parts. I would highly recommend.

Dishwasher was leaking. Came on a Saturday could not find part as stores were closed. Came back Monday to finish the job. His ad stated one price for labor and Mark held true to that even though he had ro come back. Did the job well and price was right. Would definitely recommend Texcellence.

This father son team is wonderful! They were both so helpful, honest and kind. We had a tricky situation with a 45 year old, 3 handle, leaking bathtub/shower faucet. Not only was it dripping into the tub, but when it was being used, it was leaking through to our kitchen ceiling. Charlie was able to track down replacement valves. He replaced the valves on both the hot water and cold water handles and mentioned that the center diverter was also loose. I paid him and he left. I had my son shower to see if the leak was still dripping through the kitchen ceiling and unfortunately it was. I sent a text to Charlie to inform him that it was still leaking and he said he'd come back free of labor charge and replace the valve in the center diverter as well. He did just that. I trust them. They were very reasonable, honest, knowledgeable and patient! We will use them again.

Uprising / Josue was prompt to visit our home and estimate the cost including the new window and labor installation. Josue also discussed and showed us various replacement windows options and dialed in the exact window best suited for us. No pressure, no gimmicks. Josue who you meet is who is doing the job! We had a 20-year old builder grade 2nd story window replaced in which the double pane had failed causing condensation as well the window had been leaking for years; a problem no other window technician could duplicate or diagnose. We highly recommended Josue. For the window replacement we received numerous online quotes, as well Home Depot directly. Josue’s cost was competitive with others and actually about $50 cheaper on the install. Quick turn-around time, great communication and excellent installation job. He left the work area cleaner than when we arrived!

Ian and Skyler did a great job. They built me a custom metal shed, refinished all my fences and applied a transparent stain. They also performed 5-7 other handymen jobs around my house. Their attention to detail is something I liked best. I will be using them again.

The estimating process was straight forward and quick. Len and his teammate were precise and efficient. I have 1,2 and 3 story downspouts, so there was some serious ladder work involved. They were very good at positioning the ladders safely. The finished product was great. The price paid for the materials and labor were very competitive. They fit me into their schedule 4 days after the estimate. Really a solid experience.

Jack + team were spot on every step of the way, from coordination, clear and honest bidding with materials and labor separated out for easy consideration, and delivered exactly what I hired them for on time, despite less than ideal install conditions. Will hire again without hesitation!

My Carrier 58MCB furnace was making a loud buzzing noise. I was quoted $75 for what I thought was the total labor necessary. Prime Performance Mechanical made it clear that the price of parts would be added to the $75 quote. The motor was determined to be bad, and I think the replacement was around $200 (I don't have my receipt with me now). The final bill came out to $400 so there was some additional labor charges. My furnace is working great, response time was next day, and I think that good work was performed, but some people quoted lump sum bids of $300 for the service. I may have gotten a (less reliable; shorter lifetime; etc) cheaper motor with the $300 bids, but it still has me second guessing my decision and that is the only reason I am rating Prime Performance Mechanical 4 versus 5 stars.

Jeremy and team did a great job removing a hoaky looking sliding glass door installed by the previous owner with a goofy looking built in "doggy door" and installed a great product in a timely manner. It looks great, the installation went smoothly. Labor rates were competitively priced. I would recommend Jeremy to others for any window/door installation, and will utilize his team's services in the future.

Alex was able to start immediately, he provided guidance along the way, even fixed an error on my part without additional cost. Very happy with the price and quality of the labor he provided to install my egress window well. Would recommend. I have already agreed to hire him for additional projects at my home.

    What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

    • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
    • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
      • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
    • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

    Can a handyman do plumbing?

In some states, a handyman can provide plumbing services, but it may be in your best interest to call a plumber, particularly for issues more major than unclogging a drain or attaching a new sink. Hiring a plumber is important because mishandling your water and gas lines has the potential to do great damage to your home, your family’s health, or even the safety of your neighborhood. A handyman is not legally required to have any training or licensing in plumbing matters, while a licensed plumber has undergone years of education and on-the-job training. In some cases, homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by plumbing repair done by an unlicensed handyman.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most plumbers learn their trade through a four- or five-year apprenticeship with 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. They also receive classroom education including “safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. After completing an apprenticeship program, plumbers … are considered to be journey workers, qualifying them to perform duties on their own,” according to the DOL. Licensed plumbers should do continuing education to keep abreast of safety and technology changes. Poor plumbing can lead to sewage backups, a flooded home or even natural gas leaks, so it’s best to leave it in the hands of a specialized professional.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

    • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
    • Toilet replacement: $75.
    • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
    • Faucet replacement: $125.
    • Garbage disposal: $75.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
