We needed carpet in our family room cleaned after our dogs had all but destroyed the looks. EverLush is by far the most professional and honest company that I have dealt with in years. The guys were both extremely courteous and polite. They even did our stairs at no extra charge. They took all types of precautions to protect our furniture and walls. The carpet looks brand new. I would definitely recommend then to any residential or commercial customer!

Tim replaced my mother-in-law's water heater. He arrived on time, did a very nice job and cleaned up when he was done. He treated my mother-in-law with great respect even when her stories tended to go on and on. I strongly recommend Havens HVAC for any plumbing/HVAC work.

Reliable HVAC contractors are hard to come by, which is why I'm so happy to have found Michael. He was super responsive and thorough, and had our unit back online the same day! I'm keeping his contact info handy for all my future HVAC needs. I highly recommend you stop reading reviews and just put Michael on your project!

Mr. Headley arrived quickly to diagnose and repair the A/C unit on our investment property at a reasonable price. I would consider him an investor friendly contractor and will use him again on future properties.

I hired David for a few projects last summer when we were doing a bunch of updating. First he extended our gas line to the kitchen for our new gas range. He also replaced the A/C and then installed a new sink for us as well. His team was great--very friendly, professional and considerate. Some contractors seem like they want to get it done and get out, but they were obviously invested in doing it right and they responded to every special request we made. When the range didn't quite fit the gas line, David even came back to adjust it and did not charge for it. And he stayed in touch with me to make sure we got the A/C warranty stuff done right. I'll contact him again when we need help.

Eric and his crew did a terrific job installing our new furnace, ac, and water heater. Thier work was quick and efficient. Eric talked me through the entire process, gave us very fair pricing, and did excellent work. What more could you ask from your contractor? I highly recommend them!

4/1/2018: Quoted $149 to fix drainage issue. Assured that Acension had the capability and tools to solve my issue. 4/11/2018: Charged $589. Assured the issue was resolved 5/23/2018: Drain is still not still not working. I have concluded I have been scammed. Do not hire this contractor! He will take the money and run without solving your problem. Worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. DO NOT BELIEVE YOUR INITIAL ESTIMATE. Horrible customer service.

First off, I GC'd my own house remodel and Sam is 1 of 3 contractors that I'll do work with again. Most importantly to me, Sam provides exceptional customer service. Sam is responsive, detailed, friendly and very knowledgeable. Sam installed new radiant heating elements and all new covers for them. The project was a bit tricky (IMO), because the pipes feeding the water had to be cut and welded back together at both ends for the new fins and back part of the covers. All of the work was done correctly, promptly and within his estimated project time. In this market, there are a lot more bad contractors than there are good ones. Custom Solutions will do well with all of their knowledge and intangibles that make customers happy. Thank you! Look forward to finishing up our house remodel (new swamp cooler) with you guys down the road. Happy Customers, Matt and Shelby

Don is the technician and the owner. He was able to accommodate us on short notice, on a Sunday no less, and was extremely cordial. I could tell from the moment he stepped into our home that he would care for us like he would his own home or a family member. He addressed our issue with honesty and careful concern, with consideration for the overall cost and long term maintenance of the AC unit. It was a bigger issue than we originally thought, which could have easily been a real headache. However, Don's willingness to explain everything step by step both technically and with our finances in mind, he gave us great comfort with the final solution. I have had very few encounters with HVAC companies, or any other contractor for that matter, who will care for you the way Don @ Douglas Temperature will. I would highly recommend him for anything regarding your heating and AC needs, and his pricing is also very competitive or better than the big guys. 5 stars!!

I was amazed at the service I received from Prime. The fee quoted was, while not the least expensive, nevertheless extremely reasonable and inclusive of a trip charge and incidentals. Nathan was on time, knowledgeable, very polite, professional and responsive; answering a few related questions and providing both an emailed invoice for this service and a quote for possible future work. All in all, I could not be more pleased! Prime is now my plumbing / HVAC contractor of choice - I will recommend Prime to neighbors, friends and family!

The heating unit sitting on top of our office building decides to go kaput during mid winter. Time is of the essence (I can't let my office staff freeze!) so I hit the phones getting quotes. This is a huge job so shopping around matters. I chose Now over other companies because: 1) Quick. They were lightning quick getting us a quote. As I said, can't have my staff freezing. Those little portable heaters can only do so much. 2) Fair price... and I had checked around. The only lower bids came from individuals, not businesses. Having a warranty and knowing it will be professionally installed is definitely worth paying a little extra. 3) Professionalism. From start to finish, Rod, Eric and the tech staff were professional, quick, and just awesome to do business with. I'll be definitely be using in the future for other properties I own. It's a relief when you can find a reliable, competent, and fairly price contractor. I found that in Now Heating. To all the staff at Now Heating, thank you for being awesome!

I own a 20 year old furnace, that is now giving me problems. So, I thought of installing a new furnace. I contacted three nearest HVAC contractors for same. But, fees vary from contractor to contractor. Then my friend suggest me At Parker Service Company, a top rated company for certified furnace installation. I immediately gave them a call after which, they sent their expert technician who guided me through the various options that I had. He suggested me the best furnace I could buy according to the quality and the cost to fit into my budget. The installation was quick and quite reasonable too.

Michael was referred to our condo association by our roofer. We have had an ongoing leak and mold problem that we thought was stemming from different issues, so the damage done was quite extensive by the time we figured out it was a plumbing. Micheal came in promptly, diagnosed it and had the job completed within a matter of days. It was a relief! He was very well priced, professional and thorough. We will definitely use him again as an association. I also plan on using him for future esthetic goals we have for our own individual unit.

Lee came out on time with an honest quote. He was able to have one of his guys get the work done the next day and followed up to make sure the job was done in a professional manner. His worker did a great job and was courteous. They made sure to leave the area clean and left no trash behind. He took the time to protect my carpent to keep it clean while going back and forth from outside to the basement. I am myself a contractor and will be sure to refer Lee and Oneguy Heating to my clients in the future.

I am writing this review to recommend Toms' Heating and A/C for you HVAC concerns. I had called several HVAC companies that acted like they did not have the time or care to come by and check out my furnace. It was not working and it was getting very cold in the house so I looked on Craigs List and found an ad for HVAC-Windsor Toms' Heating & A/C so I called and talked to Tom the owner and explained my dilema. He came right over and did a check on the furnace and found it to have a cracked heat exchanger. He said I would need a new furnance. He gave me a quote that I though was fair so I asked when he could find the time to install the new furnance and he said the next day so I siad that would be great. In the meantime another company called back and I told them I had found another company but I would like a 2nd opinion so they came out 3 hours later and told me the same as Tom the owner told me so I asked for a quote from them. Wow! what a difference there was so I went with Toms' Heating & A/C. He arrived the next day at 9:00 A.M. promptly very courtious, clean, and respectful and started the work and per the quote he was done in 3 1/2 hours - old furnance out - new furnance in. All the duct work sealed with duct sealer and it even looked like he was never here. I would recommend his quality of work to everybody. Even to my suprise he called 2 weeks later to make sure everything was working properly and if I was happy with the work and furnance. I couldn't have been happier. "Thanks Tommy" you are the greatest and I will recommend your company to my family and friends. Thanks, Linda

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

        What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

        • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
        • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
        • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
        • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
          • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
        • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
          • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
        • Your home has humidity problems.
        • Your home has excessive dust.
          • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
        • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
          • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
        • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
          • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
