Bryan was fantastic. He helped keep our wedding party and guests moving in pictures. Captured some amazing pictures of me and my bridal party getting ready and I love the pictures of me and my husband. It was extremely sunny for our outdoor wedding and he still captured some wonderful pictures. I would definitely recommend him.

Mike from Creative Exposures did an outstanding job for my daughter's Sweet 16 party! The kids had a blast choosing from the many cool props available! We were able to create a very memorable scrapbook album filled with pictures from the booth on the spot for her event. It was very unique and special. As a bonus, all the kids also took home copies of those pictures for themselves! My daughter's party was the talk of the town for months! It still is. She still talks about what a hit the booth was and how special it made her birthday. Mike was very attentive and went out of his way to make sure my daughter was happy with the look and text for the printed photos. He responded very quickly to any questions we had. As a business owner myself, I would rate Creative Exposures a 5 star company for customer service and a quality product. Thank you Mike! Sweet 16 Party, April 2013.

Connie provided a magic show and face painting at our son's 3rd birthday party. We had about 30 kids ages 2-12, and every single one of them was engaged and entertained throughout the 45 minute show. Connie was really funny, with just enough appropriate jokes for the adults to get a big kick out of her too. The room of about 60 people was very receptive and amused. Excellent show, great crowd control, and of course good magic!

We had the pleasure of hiring Dan for our company party this week. He was incredibly professional and thoughtful. We had about 450 people attend the party and there was a line the whole entire time. That said he kept the line moving so in the end I think he was able to give almost everyone who wanted a reading. I received positive feedback the whole night about Dan and his readings. I highly recommend him and would definitely hire him again. -Lynn Harris, Oracle Data Cloud

We booked with MaJu Art Services needing a face painter for my daughter's party. They were very professional having contracts and invoices and kept in touch with me through out the process. I appreciated that they set up and cleaned up at the end so I would not need to add an extra chore. Overall, our guests loved their work especially the birthday girl.

Kevin, You ROCK!! We had so much fun listening to your music the other evening at the birthday party bash. We especially enjoyed when you played oldies by the great artists of the 60's and 70's. The Beatles are my favorite group and you played their songs to a tee....Their "Birthday" song was so appropriate. You're quite the entertainer!! Thanks for a wonderful time. Everyone had a blast because of the joy your music brings. I can tell you really love playing music because you kept the audience wanting more. You're awesome and fun!! We're amazed that you can play so many different music types. Will you please play at my wife's birthday party next month? We would recommend you to anyone. We'll be watching for your public gigs and will try to attend all of them! Your very ADMIRING FANS.....Mike and Genie

Crystal did a great job for our 8 year old's birthday party! Justine and her friends, as well as some of us adults, had so much fun. Crystal was timely and well prepared for the party. She even did a Seahawk eye right on the spot for my nephew. Thank you Crystal for a fun time by all!

Robin was the perfect partner for our party. The way he works makes it feel like it't "we" not us and him. It really felt like he was all in to ensure things worked out. Very responsive and thoughtful, which created a high degree of trust that proved to be legitimate. He managed sound for a party in a park where determining the power source was challenging and when the weather was very up in the air, but he did everything he could to make sure all went well. And it did, all at a very affordable price. Couldn't recommend him more.

Peak2Peak set up the photo booth for my daughters 6th birthday party. The kids LOVED it! They showed up early to set up and once we told the kids about it, they did not stop. The adults had a blast as well. The picture quality and props were awesome. We have so many great pictures and memories of her party thanks to Peak2Peak. I would 100% recommend them for any event!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What is a photo booth rental?

A party photo booth is a fun, interactive experience where guests can take a series of photos (usually three or four) that are immediately printed out on a strip as a keepsake. When you rent a party photo booth, the company sets up the booth or photo station at your event; a photographer staffs the booth and coaches guests on how to use it throughout the event. Often the photo booth rental company provides props like silly hats, wigs and glasses. There are different types of party photo booth rentals. An open-air booth has a curtain or backdrop that allows more freedom of movement and enables more people to use it at one time. The traditional enclosed photo booths that you may have seen at the mall or the fair tend to cost more to rent, as they are harder to transport and also cost more for the pros to purchase. The national average cost for party photo booth rentals is $400-$500.

What does a fortune teller do?

A fortune teller offers insight into people’s past, present and future through private readings. Some fortune tellers read palms or use tarot cards, runes, or tea leaves to see into a client’s future. Other fortune tellers consider themselves psychics, numerologists and mystics who look for patterns and meaning in seemingly random events, such as stirred tea leaves or the draw of a tarot card. By interpreting what they see in the cards or leaves, fortune tellers answer their clients’ questions about their lives, such as who or when they’ll marry, whether they should quit their job, or whether they should have a baby. Tarot card readings are a particularly popular way of having your future told, because they’re such a familiar method of fortune telling. More importantly, you can guide a tarot reading by asking the specific questions that are most important to you. By interpreting the cards you’ve drawn, the fortune teller may give you new insight into yourself and help you make an important decision. For some people, fortune tellers are simply amusing, but for others, they offer helpful guidance and spiritual nourishment.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
