It isn't easy trying to choose which construction or roofing company to use when you suddenly find yourself in that 'hurry up or else' situation of needing to replace the roof NOW. After receiving several estimates - and dealing with the 'maybe I can get to it next week' excuses - one company stood out among the rest - Mountaintop Construction. Steve Petersen came to my home in Bellvue, Colorado, within 24-48 hours, which was over 100 miles from his location. He explained to me in simple terms why the shingles looked the way they did, which actually helped save me a ton of money after advising me to have the insurance company come take a look. The job was completed by a friendly crew - and by Steve himself - within a weeks' time. The county came out for the final inspection and the roof passed with no problems. The shingles look beautiful! I would recommend this company and Steve Petersen's crew without hesitation.

Phillip and his crew helped me out with a drip edge installation and roof repair in Wellington, CO. They were on time, kept in contact with me throughout the job and let me inspect the repairs before they wrapped up. Great crew and they did a nice job!

I hired them to do repairs on a tile roof and small play house. They gave an estimate for the house but said they forgot to look at the play house. I explained the play house had shake shingles that had blown off during our last wind storm and told them the size of the roof. He informed me that they don't carry shakes anymore but they would match the shingles to the shed that sits next to the play house. At the time I was assured it would be done for $100-$150 to which I agreed. The work was completed in a timely manner but when I received the bill the play house was $250. When I called to inquire why the bill was $100 more than quoted I was told he didn't realize it had shakes and they had to make a run to purchase the shingles and he had $100 in materials and "That's what the bill is." He was unwilling to discuss this further with me. The work was fine however, please use caution dealing with this company as they do not stand by their word!

Terrific PR and skill sets and a job well done....Super! Sheila walked us through the entire roofing and gutter process in the initial meeting and we were extremely pleased with their final bid. Everything went smoothly and professionally. Crews were extremely hard-working. Have already recommended Masters Touch Roof LLC to several neighbors. We couldn't be more pleased with the final work product!

I am Nels Sostrom and had Les do some work for me around the yard at my place at 615 Oakhurst Drive in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I was really impressed and satisfied with the work Les did taking down the old fence around the back yard and replacing it. The new fence was very well build using deck screws rather than nails. He replaced the 4x4 posts with treated posts into concrete, connecting them together with 2x4 stringers to which he attached the vertical picket slats with rust proof screws. I was also impressed of how Les replaced the old utility shed with a new and larger shed. In one short day he cut the roof off the old shed into sections and placed it into the dumpster. Then he cut the rest of the old shed into pieces and placed that into the dumpster. The old shed had a concrete floor and short footing. The ground around the footing had filled up until water would run into the floor area. Les designed the new shed for which he had obvious experience. Rather than using the old foundation as it was originally intended he ingenuously build a new foundation setting on top of the old foundation using treated timbers. The new shed is a beauty. It is much more useful. Tall enough to stand up in and with much more storage. I like barn look with hipped roof with shingles. Les is very nice to work with. He is easy to talk to and works very efficiently and cleaned up nicely after the work was done

Mountain High Roofing recently completed the installation of a new shingle roof on my house. Their personnel were professional and performed with integrity during the entire process. A few of the details of my experience are listed below. They assisted me with the roof inspection performed by my insurance company. The work was performed for the amount my insurance company paid at no cost to me, The work was performed on schedule. My old roof was stripped and the new one installed in one day. All demolition debris including all the roofing nails were cleaned up the same day that the work was completed. Their work passed the building inspection with no comments from the inspector. Mountain High Roofing followed through on all the promises their sales team made prior to performing the work. Overall, I am very pleased with the experience I had with Mountain High Roofing and would recommend them to anyone in need of a new roof.

I had several local roofing total replacement estimates for my home. I placed a request for quotes on Thumbtack and received a response and quote from Campbell Roofing within several hours. The quote was very much in line within priors quotes. I discussed the quotes with a representative of Campbell and scheduled a site visit. The visit and quote was impressive, I contracted with Campbell roofing to have the roof replaced. The work was scheduled and completed within 1 week of the agreement including written warranty . This is exactly what I desired, the workers were thorough and thoughtful of my property, they moved all plants and yard items out of harms way, they were conscience of our coming and going by leaving pathway clear. The clean up was excellent without roofing nails all over. I would recommend Campbell Roofing based on my experience. The job looks great and went well.

I couldn't be more pleased with Highroad Roofing. After they had reroofed my home with Owen/Corning shingles a severe hail storm hit. Strangely enough, only the ridge shingles were damaged. The rest of the roof was fine. I filed a claim with Owen Corning to replace the damaged ridge shingles. Owen Corning denied my claim for stupid (in my opinion) reasons. I contacted Colby Stockton at Highroad who replaced and repaired the damaged ridge shingles at no extra cost to me. This showed me that Colby was true to his word and work, and backed that up by proving to me that the satisfaction of his customers was indeed his and his company's priority. I was sincerely impressed and a little surprised at the high level of customer service provided by Highroad Roofing, not to mention a high quality roof installation. I now recommend Highroad Roofing to anyone who inquires.

RoofCorp of Metro Denver is top notch from start to finish. My request for a quote was responded to within hours of my posting it on ThumbTack. Ben M. arrived exactly when he said he would, introduced himself, took about 20 minutes to inspect my roof and make an estimate. He was so straight forward and transparent and answered all my questions and concerns. RoofCorps of Metro Denver works only in the Denver Metro area, most of their roofing crew has been with their company several years or more, they didn't take a penny until the roof was installed and met my satisfaction. I was advised when the shingles would arrive and when the crew would show up. On the first day of the job the huge crew worked like clockwork protecting everything around my house with huge plastic tarps, setting up their equipment, getting the dumpster truck in place, etc. They worked from early morning to sundown and cleaned up the debris from that day. A smaller crew returned the second day to complete the job and thoroughly clean up everything and put stuff back in place. I love the Barkwood color on the GAF HD shingles. RoofCorps guarantees their workmanship for 5 years; the shingles are guaranteed 10 years and another 40 years on a pro rated basis. Thank you RoofCorps. Sincerely, Marilyn C.

The Endleys father and son team recently installed Sunrise windows for us. They were friendly and courteous throughout. The work extended longer than we thought, partly because of winter weather constraints. The job was done reasonably well back in January and they addressed most minor issues. In the course of the work, some of our stone coated metal roof shingles got crumpled and bent as they and their subcontractor worked on the roof. We have informed them of the problem and we are certain they will promptly address it to our satisfaction.

Smart Roofing put a new roof on my house, garage, and chicken coup . We then had hard rain for several days and the chicken coup started to leak, Dave sent someone out within hours after I called to add more shingles to the coup which match the house perfectly . Couldn’t ask for more attentive folks . Very friendly and delightful to work with . Would highly recommend to anyone looking for great customer service and wonderful workmanship .

Jim and his crew replaced our shake roof with durable asphalt shingles. We have a 2,500 sq ft ranch with many angles. Jim's team not only did a perfect job with the roof, he added quite a few vent pipes to replace a big fake dormer that was meant for venting. The job was done quickly and painlessly. His crew also replaced all our gutters- seamless and perfect. They paid extra attention to drainage patterns around the house, moving some downspouts from previous positions. When they were done, he also mentioned they did painting, which we also needed. It was a no-brainer to hire him again for that job! He's made our house beautiful again. Don't hesitate, call Jim! I would recommend him to my grandmother.

I hired Loveridge Builders and Roofing to tear off my old shakes and put on a new Certainteed shingle roof. Bob's and his crew were great. Through adverse weather, they put on the new roof and it looks great. They got the job done, and cleaned up the tear off.

Zio came out after the hail storm hit my house in June. My insurance company said I needed new plywood installed too since my house was so old (near DU). They did the roof in a day and did the gutters the next day. Overall everything was good. I really like the brown shingle!

USA Roof is the ONLY contracting company I will work with and trust for my roofing, deck and construction needs. I met Cisco many years ago for an insurance adjustment and his honestly, integrity and strong work ethic won me over. He recently replaced our 30 year-old wood shake shingle roof and it looks AMAZING. He began the job on time and ended on time. The team even cleaned up every night when they were finished (who does that anymore???!) I can't wait for USA Roof and Restoration to start our deck and stucco project for the exterior of our house next month. If you are looking for honest work, honest price and exceptional workmanship, USA Roofing and Restoration is the ONLY one to call. Julie Hinkle......a VERY HAPPY customer!!

The team at American Best did a great job. Service was done in December-January and like I mentioned, they did great. They worked with my Insurance company and me to make sure all work was done to specifications on the composite panel roofing. I have recommended Raumaldo the Owner to others and he has a simple asphalt shingle roof on a rental. I highly recommend Raumaldo for Work Quality, Value, and Responsiveness. They're very professional too in doing what they promised to do.

Tom Reroofed Two Duplexes for me. One was a simple Shake to Asphalt Shingle Roof. The other was replacing a Tectum Roof with 2X10s for support, drywall, lights, insulation, plywood & a Tar and Gravel Roof. Tom also replaced the roof on one building in a Condo Association I had a unit. All of this was done within the time and expense quoted. If I had another project, I wouldn't hesitate to call Tom.

WORK: Full roof removal (3 layers asphalt shingles and original wood shake shingles), installed OSB board, new asphalt shingles and vents. David was extremely responsive and helpful through the process of determining the level of work needed to replace my existing roof and clearly described in detail what I needed and why. I was presented with various material options and colors to choose from and never felt pressured to choose one over the other. The Contractor was more than willing to price different options to help in the decision making process. I was extremely pleased with the prompt response, clear estimate, and very competitive pricing. In the end I'm convinced the overall value cannot be beat. The work actually started a day early and was complete in 1.5 days instead of the expected 2 days. Outside of the new roof I couldn't tell all anyone had been there to replace my roof. My house/property was left as they found it . . . with the exception of an amazing new roof! The level of fairness, responsiveness, professionalism, and quality are second to none. I'd highly recommend Colorado Roofing and Remodeling to for your roofing and/or gutter needs

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
