Haul Off Flooring, that turned into more. When we started this project we only needed the flooring that was flooded hauled off, then we found drywall, doors, and more that needed hauled off too. David was great to take it all.

We hired Gonzalez Construction to help us with a condo remodel. The work they did included demolition, framing, drywall, new lighting, installing trim, removing tile, laying new tile, plumbing work, leveling the floor, and wood floor install throughout. Daniel and his team were reliable, finished the work quickly, and were professional throughout the entire process. We would definitely hire them again!

I had Radick install glass tile backsplash in my new kitchen. He also replaced Pergo flooring which had been damaged from a water leak. I was told by two other contractors that the flooring had to be completely replaced. This would entail removing and replacing the floor not only in the kitchen but also in the adjoining family room since it was one continuous floor. When Radick looked at the floor, he said " I'm pretty sure I can replace only the damaged part." He did just that and did an excellent job. His work was absolutely beautiful, both the flooring and the backsplash tile job. I have already asked him for an estimate on another project. I feel that his pricing is very fair and he works diligently and quickly. He is definitely my go to contractor for any future work that I need.

Painting ~2200 sq ft. Nabil always arrived very timely and was easy to work with. He dismantled the closets to paint inside. There was some mess left - paint on outlets, paint left on carpet, on floors. Overall, Nabil was quick to remedy issues.

Dez and his crew are amazing. We hired him to restore the hard wood floor of our ranch home. The previous owner had kept carpet over it for years, the har wood underneath was out of shape. He did magic. The hard wood floor looks like new. He went above and beyond to give us a lot advice on flooring. He is very knowledgeable in the area. I am really amazed by the final product. We have a lot of quotes but decided to go with him and we are not regretting. They cleaned very well after their done. Even when I have some request he was responsive to followed through to it. He is going to come back install vinyl flooring in our basement. We are excited to have him come back work for us again. We highly recommend him. Thanks a lot Dez.

Eric and his father were an exceptionally fantastic team to work with. Not once did they bring a bad attitude to the job, took care of every single question or concern we had, and it was very comfortable to be around each of their team members. The work they did pouring our concrete patio and sidewalk around out house to the drive way was superb! They took care of sprinkler work and restored our backyard to better than it was before they arrived. I could not have asked for a better team to come to our home and bless us with great work that fit our budget and wonderful people. I will recommend them to anyone looking for concrete work and I already have! Thanks again Eric and Raul! Your work has changed our backyard and the safety of our children while playing back there!

The crew arrived like clockwork 8:00 every morning and worked very hard on our floors all day. The hardwood floor project turned out gorgeous. I don't think anyone can do this work without there being dust and inconvenience, but its worth it in the end!!!!!

I hired Gil to fix and match some broken tile in my basement. I attempted myself to fix and couldn't get it to look right but Gil showed up, taped off the entire area, grinded the existing concrete for a uniform fit, and did a perfect job matching the tile. He was prompt with his responses, and stayed until the project was over. From that time I've hired him for several other projects (including an entire fix n' flip) and without him the project would not have been completed. HIRE HIM!!!! He was fantastic to work with and I would highly recommend again.

Rodrigo and Ha were both very cordial and respectful. Two days after we contracted to have Toski do our floors the material was delivered to allow it to become acclimated to its location prior to it being installed. They moved all the heavy furniture and removed all carpet, baseboard and tackstrip in a very efficient manner with minimal inconvenience to us. The installation of the floor went as smooth as silk and it turned out nothing short of beautiful. They are excellent craftsman and we would definitely hire them again if the need arises. Dan did an excellent job for us, installing wood laminate flooring in our house. He arrived on time, was always professional and friendly and his workmanship was superior! Friends who saw our new floor couldn't believe that it wasn't a real wood floor and how much difference it made in the look of the house. I do not hesitate to recommend Dan for any flooring job and would use him again in a minute if I had any more flooring projects to be done.

Shawn did an AMAZING job installing my new hardwood floors. He was very prompt, professional and very easy to work with. He has your best interest in mind and doesnt try to screw you out of anything and is a very honest man to do work with. My concrete slab was very uneven (2-3 inches in some areas) from an addition the previous owners did (and covered it up with carpet 🙄) and it needed major repair before hardwood installment was an option. Shawn recommended me an outstanding concrete guy, Hugo, to get that part of the job done. Once my floors were even, Shawn did his magic! If I had to do this all over again, Shawn would definitely be my go to guy for the job! I highly, HIGHLY recommend him to install your hardwood floors! Thanks again Shawn, it was a pleasure doing business with you!

Calabrese Flooring was by far the best contractor I’ve ever hired. We just finished a 3 month long full renovation of our house and Mike (the owner and sole worker of the company) did our floors, stair treads/risers, balusters, and trim in our house (~1400 sqft of floor). From start to finish Mike was responsive, professional, and communicated with great detail what to expect in regards to timeline and price. Just before our project began Mike had a family emergency that took him away from work for several days, delaying the project he was working on just before ours. The delay on this previous project was going to delay the start of our project past the date we were going to install our kitchen (we wanted the floors in before the kitchen). Mike was awesome though and was able to negotiate shared time with his previous client and us to get our floor installed before our Kitchen would be, avoiding any delays on our project. Mike was able to get the majority of our main floor installed in three days and it looked incredible. He definitely focuses on detail as exemplified by how well he was able to end the floor against our fireplace. Mike laid the vinyl flooring from the opposite wall towards the fireplace, making the cut at the brick very difficult to keep close, but when he was done we decided it didn’t even need trim due to how small the gap between the floor and the brick is. At the end of each day Mike communicated what he expected to get done the next day and how much he’d done the current day as well as clarified any questions there may have been about the upcoming work. This really made us comfortable with the work he was doing and avoided confusion and worries since I was at work for most of the installation and couldn’t be there for in-the-moment questions. We were so happy with Mike’s work on our floors we asked him to continue his work onto staining our barn door and installing our balusters. After making sure his other customers were taken care of he quickly made it back to our house to install beautiful balusters, trim, and finish staining our barn door. With each of the projects Mike worked on he paid special attention to detail. The railing on our stairs meets perfectly with the wall. The gaps between the steps and the walls are near unnoticeable and the staining on our barn door is perfectly even. I will 100% be hiring Mike in the future for staining and floor installation.

After looking for the right and affordable contractor for months, it can be a little frustrating but it was worth the wait. I found GALVAN remodeling LLC, they were very prompt at price, work and time frame. They worked on my entire basement from scratch to finish, all the plumbing, walls, floors, paint even door sizing. Jim and his Crew do excellent work. We have been looking for contractors, builders, finishers and all kinds of people to hire to finish our basement, and we ended up going with Jim and Integrity Remodeling. Are we glad we did!! Jim does most all the work himself with his own employee which saved us on having to hire a contractor and pay them to hire out other companies to complete the job in pieces. With Jim and his employee, we knew who we were getting, he talked to us everyday and kept us up to date on the process, and is very easy to talk to. He gives great recommendations and sure does know what he is doing. I recommend him to anyone who is looking for a basement finish, remodel, service or anything of that nature. We plan to use him to help us with our upstairs remodel now!! Thanks Jim!!!

Our experience with Maria and Elvis could not have been better. Maria communicated throughout the entire process and was extremely flexible with our plans. We forgot to order some things and also moved the date around a few times and they made it all work. Our new floors look beautiful and they even came back to do a walk through to ensure everything was how we wanted it. They also left our house spotless afterwards which we were so appreciative of. I have already referred Maria's team to family and friends and will continue to do so!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
