It was super easy to book, even last minute. My two movers, led by Dom, showed up on time and I was really impressed with their professionalism, work ethic, and the care they took with my items. They finished the job in less time than I was quoted and the price was super reasonable. It was the easiest move I've ever done.

Upfront on-site quote, with short notice. movers were on-time, they even had a cancellation earlier in the day and offered to move me earlier. Brought 4 movers which cut move time in half. These guys moved my packed two bedroom condo in Lakewood to our new house in Arvada in less than three hours! Took care of my items covered my furniture with pads and securely packed their truck and my trailer. Will recommend them to anyone looking for a reasonably priced in town move.

Overall, our experience with working with Carlson Custom Interiors was great. Jessica worked with me and was very flexible in the scheduling of the move. She was also accessible, when I called she would either email or call right back. The movers, while they were about 30 minutes later than expected, were also great. Very friendly, efficient, and handled our furniture with care.

You should hire Jerry and the Elite Movers. They, last minute, saved the day and were able to move the heaviest piano ever (they said so) up two flights of stairs and into our extra room. They were professional, came prepared, and with lots of effort made it happen when others told me "no way". They moved my heirloom like my mo was standing over them watching them move it. I would recommend them for ANY moving help needed!

The two movers who came to unload my POD (I forgot their names already!) were courteous, kind, on time, and worked very fast. Other than putting a few things in the wrong areas, they were wonderful. I highly recommend this company for POD unloading!

We moved from Greeley to Erie. The move required 2 trucks and 4 movers. They had estimated 8-10 hours and were able to complete the job in 7 hours. Other companies had given us estimates of 10-11 hours. All four movers - Steven, Nate, Brian, & Alex were all very professional, courteous, friendly, and hustled to get the job done. We highly recommend them!

I decided last minute to hire movers and it was the best decision I could have made. I was immediately called back, asked about my needs (and they really listened), and set up for next-day service. The two movers arrived promptly, prepared, and were very friendly. They moved quickly and with much more care than I and a team of friends ever could have. I actually felt the stress melting off me (not an easy feat during moving) as they worked and we joked about shrink wrapping everything in sight. I cannot recommend these guys enough - I'll be scheduling with them next time, too.

Our move turned out to be a bigger job than expected due to the limitations of what one is able to describe when requesting a quote. Juan didn't blink an eye. Pro Movers simply went to work to not only get the job done, but to do it safely and effectively. As the day went on and evening began we still had a few more large items and several smaller items that we wanted to have moved. I wasn't too concerned about the smaller items as I could always move them myself. Juan went above and beyond anything I could have expected or even hoped for in a mover. He offered to come back the next day to finish moving the remaining items. I cannot emphasize enough how extraordinary this offer was. Pro movers has earned all of my future moving needs and I will highly recommend them to everyone I know.

Mark was prompt, friendly, professional and a great communicator. He helped us do some last minute "make ready" items to prepare our house to sell. Mark performed varied jobs from painting to repair work and was thorough with his communication through out the process. I would definitely recommend Mark.

It was a small job and Jake and Parker were prompt and efficient and quick. The most important thing was that I felt comfortable having them in my house which was a big concern for me and why it took me almost a year to get around to rearranging this furniture. I explained exactly what the job was and I was surprised that they did not bring any tools with them. For every other move, the movers have had tools to take apart the headboard and bed frame. This was not really a problem as I have plenty of tools. Just a comment.

Because my daughter lives in another state and works very, very long hours, I wanted to lessen the pain of moving to a new apartment by paying for a mover to pack and move her possessions to the new apartment. Mario was extremely courteous on the phone and offered me options that I found appealing. After my phone conversation discussing the estimated service and costs, Mario sent a follow-up of the moving costs in an email which I forwarded to my daughter. The movers arrived on time on the designated day. My daughter informed me that they were very respectful, efficient and conscientious about all of the items in her apartment. She was moved in less time than originally allotted at a cost less than the estimate. She said that Mario called her after the move to solicit feedback, which she says "was a cherry on top of an already impressive experience." My daughter may be moving again in about a year, and informed me that she would certainly contact EZ Moving for this move. My daughter says she would definitely recommend EZ Moving to her friends.

Although the movers were a little late and it took longer than expected, both guys made sure my things made it safely to the new apartment. My boxes were loaded, organized, and unloaded very precisely - nothing was broken or damaged. They also provided all the tools/equipment needed and helped set up furniture. Julianna was great at communicating with me throughout the process and very responsive. Definitely the best priced movers I was able to find in Denver!

I had a large 1 bedroom apartment DT, i called last minute to see if they could squeeze me in as my last moving company cancelled, they squeezed me in that day, and to make things better, i thought i would have to disassemble and move many things out of my apartment as they were large and my halls were small. Well they just carefully maneuvered the halls and go tme squared away quickly and professionally. All employees were stoked and making jokes at work. Great service. Will be returning.

I hired Sun City Muscle Movers on 8/1/2017. They were great to work with. Houston which is the owner was actually on the move along with another guy named Daniel. I couldn't believe that the owner was actually at my house assisting with my move. I told him that was very rare. I moved a couple times in the last past years and the owners I dealt with wouldn't give a hand or two nor come out and assist with my previous moves. He knew what he was doing when it came to packing up my house. My husband and I were very happy during and after the move was completed. Thank you, Sun City Muscle Movers. Keep up the great work!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
