They were on time and patient. I hired them to install insulation in my garage and ordered the wrong insulation. They followed me to the hardware store to get the right stuff as well as loaded it in their car. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

I am very happy with Dr.HVAC, he installed a new high efficiency furnace, and removed the old equipment all in one day. The furnace was working the same day! Very high quality work. I would recommend him to all my friends and family!

Forrest Ponder recently completed a complete gut and renovation of our 1957 master bathroom. The renovation included installation of a bathtub, toilet, double sink vanity, a shower with glass doors, a new window replacement, and radiant tile flooring. We are very happy with the way that the project turned out and Forrest was really easy to work with. He was great at listening to our wants/needs for the project and then carrying out our vision. He was quite concerned with making sure that we were happy, and corrected anything that we were not 100% satisfied with on the first round. He was detail oriented and kept our house clean throughout the project. Our bathroom renovation turned out great, and we would highly recommend Forrest for your next project.

Dave was very professional, always on time, and took the time to do the job right. I appreciated how reliable he was and his attention to detail. He completed a subway tile backsplash, installed a faucet, gas cooktop, as well as an outdoor light fixture. He adjusted many little things in my kitchen that were off (cabinet hinges, doors) and did some painting for me. I think he can do it all in terms of home improvement and I would definitely work with him in the future and recommend him for other projects.

John arrived on time and got to work right away. He installed my dishwasher and installed a shut off valve under the sink instead of in the basement. Did the work quickly and for a reasonable price.

Wed Aug 16, 8:18 PM If you’re contemplating hiring a good General Contractor, Daniel Gonzalez and his construction teams are your guys! We hired Daniel to finish 1,300 square feet including an extra bedroom, laundry area, storage room and quilt studio in our basement. Daniel gave a fair quote and he brought top notch teams and hard working guys to the project! His electrician did an excellent job installing all new electrical; and his HVAC guy ran new heat ducts and installed a whole house humidifier. The plumber ran new plumbing for a utility sink and washing machine. The framer did a fabulous job independently building our design to our exact specifications and even added decorative arches. The drywall guys hauled in heavy drywall sheets one-by-one because it wouldn’t fit into our window wells. The drywall installers got 4 rooms put up in one and ½ days! The tapers and texture's did an excellent job taping drywall seams and adding texture in less than two days for each team. Daniel’s crews showed up on time, they were respectful, trustworthy, and we appreciated how hard they all worked to get the job done in a timely manner. Daniel and his trim and paint team did an excellent job painting, installing our flooring, trim, doors, hardware and window ledges. Best of all, Daniel is an honest guy and does what he agrees to do. Treat these guys right and they’ll treat you right! Great job! We love our new space! Thanks Daniel!

I had Radick install glass tile backsplash in my new kitchen. He also replaced Pergo flooring which had been damaged from a water leak. I was told by two other contractors that the flooring had to be completely replaced. This would entail removing and replacing the floor not only in the kitchen but also in the adjoining family room since it was one continuous floor. When Radick looked at the floor, he said " I'm pretty sure I can replace only the damaged part." He did just that and did an excellent job. His work was absolutely beautiful, both the flooring and the backsplash tile job. I have already asked him for an estimate on another project. I feel that his pricing is very fair and he works diligently and quickly. He is definitely my go to contractor for any future work that I need.

Jarek was amazing to work with! After months of unreliable contractors that weren't completing quality work, I am so happy we finished our project with Jarek! I only wish we would have hired him sooner! He installed our large encaustic cement tile backsplash and bathroom's marble mosaic and marble subway tile. Everything is extremely precise and lined up perfectly! He even took it upon himself to remove a couple dozen tiny pieces of marble from our mosaic and replaced them, because the color was a bit darker than the rest - I noticed them myself, but thought it was being too picky if I mentioned them. He even tore out our previous contractor's poorly done shower pan and remade it correctly, without hesitation. I would trust him to complete a large project on his own, without even checking in on the progress. He has a great work ethic, shows up on time every day and takes a lot of pride in

Sometimes it took a while, but George always got back to us in response to our questions. The granite and windowsills and backsplash look nice, but we did have a few glitches. They were willing to come back a couple of times to correct some things. One slab of granite was cut 3/4" too short and they filled the side gaps with white caulk that looked pretty bad. They did come and redo it in a color that matched the granite better and although it isn't perfect we're ok with it now. We thought the granite price was fair, but we were disappointed because we bought 2 full slabs and George told us they keep what is left for us to use later. We had a small bar & counter we wanted to do in the granite. When we asked just a couple days after the job was done how much was left we were told they don't keep anything under 22" and there was nothing. Our job was about 82 sq. ft so even with some waste we figured there should be at least enough to do that counter. After pricing the backsplash per sf , at the final bill they added an extra $2 per linear foot for cutting 6 x 12" border sheets in half (we had previously been told $10 per linear foot for the border so $2 was added for each border piece cut).

From the moment I met with Mike D'Angelo to discuss a deck replacement on a home I was planning to purchase, I had a pretty strong feeling he was honest, knowledgeable and competent. I since learned he can do pretty much any project from the ground up and he and his crew just finished replacing my marble tile flooring with hardwoods, reconfiguring a 3-way gas fireplace including new stonework and taking out some corner and over-the staircase shelving units. I didn't give him much lead time but he was able to make everything happen within my time frame. He listened carefully to what I was looking for and came up with some great suggestions that I ended up using. He also proved to be a one-stop shop and whatever I thought of doing, he either could get it done or knew someone else who could. I highly recommend using Mike and All Universal. I have already signed up for a painting project and plan to use his services for my deck replacement in the spring.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
