Harry with Handyworks is one of the nicest and most comfortable person to deal with. He showedup when he said he would, gave a reasonable price for repairs and was very helpful with repairs. I would highly recommend him for repair that anyone may need.

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

This review is about the Thumbtack plumber who came out to fix a leak near the water shutoff valve of one of our toilets last week. He showed up on time and the work was well done. No complaints there. The issue for me, however, was the pre-estimate for the work that'the service-person submits online before he/she comes out to do the work. It's definitely a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's nice to know how much you're going to pay before the work is done. On the other hand, the estimate is mostly just an educated guess. In this case, the estimate was $200. He installed a part, which I later found out (by looking online) costs around $20. He had the work completed in 10-15 minutes. It still cost $200. That works out to around $700-800 per hour for labor. Brain surgeons don't make that much per hour. I would have negotiated to have the charge lowered, but it had been agreed on before he came out, so I didn't feel trying to get a lower price would be proper. Not sure if there's a solution for this situation. I also wonder if the work was much more extensive than anticipated, would the charge get increased over the estimate? I'm guessing it would.
