It isn't easy trying to choose which construction or roofing company to use when you suddenly find yourself in that 'hurry up or else' situation of needing to replace the roof NOW. After receiving several estimates - and dealing with the 'maybe I can get to it next week' excuses - one company stood out among the rest - Mountaintop Construction. Steve Petersen came to my home in Bellvue, Colorado, within 24-48 hours, which was over 100 miles from his location. He explained to me in simple terms why the shingles looked the way they did, which actually helped save me a ton of money after advising me to have the insurance company come take a look. The job was completed by a friendly crew - and by Steve himself - within a weeks' time. The county came out for the final inspection and the roof passed with no problems. The shingles look beautiful! I would recommend this company and Steve Petersen's crew without hesitation.

We challenged HRTI with a new residential siding material and installation. Weathering steel panels (A606) were fabricated to our specifications and installed over our existing siding in a unique manner, allowing airflow behind the panels to control heat buildup and moisture. HRTI was up to the challenge, improving the installation and panel interfaces. Although HRTI was familiar with standard steel installations this project was new to them. The crew was conscientious and quality minded. Greg Cotton communicated well with his customer. Feedback for improvement: HRTI to acquire the capability to software model a home with exterior material choices and alternative designs.

Mike installed 3 ceiling fans and two outdoor lights for us. He was quick to reply during the bid process and stuck to his bid number even when the job was more difficult. He worked quietly, cleanly, and quickly and our fans and lights look great! For sure using him for more projects around our fixer upper!

Great job, Sonners! I had several roofing contractors come give us a bid on our roof, and Sonners got the call. As the owner of small business, myself,(construction related) I appreciate Daves professional opinions and thourogh and accurate explanations to my many questions regarding both my pitched and flat roof. His crew was prompt, diligent and thorough as well. The roofing project turned out beautifully. We are also considering getting our siding replaced and wouldn't consider calling anyone else besides Sonners when we're ready!

Can't say enough about the thoroughness and quality of work by the team at Earth Saving Solutions Corp. I was referred to Earth Saving Solutions Corp and worked with Chris Hock after the crazy hail storm in June 18th . I had so many roofing companies pressuring us and coming by non-stop. They were very low pressure, upfront about the process, and were even able to get some additional work done that our insurance company missed. Start to finish they were just amazing. There were a couple of small errors but they handled them quickly and professionally. Any questions I had they had actual answers to and the attention to detail made me feel like they wanted to take care of my home as they would their own. Thanks Earth Saving Solutions Corp!

RoofCorp of Metro Denver is top notch from start to finish. My request for a quote was responded to within hours of my posting it on ThumbTack. Ben M. arrived exactly when he said he would, introduced himself, took about 20 minutes to inspect my roof and make an estimate. He was so straight forward and transparent and answered all my questions and concerns. RoofCorps of Metro Denver works only in the Denver Metro area, most of their roofing crew has been with their company several years or more, they didn't take a penny until the roof was installed and met my satisfaction. I was advised when the shingles would arrive and when the crew would show up. On the first day of the job the huge crew worked like clockwork protecting everything around my house with huge plastic tarps, setting up their equipment, getting the dumpster truck in place, etc. They worked from early morning to sundown and cleaned up the debris from that day. A smaller crew returned the second day to complete the job and thoroughly clean up everything and put stuff back in place. I love the Barkwood color on the GAF HD shingles. RoofCorps guarantees their workmanship for 5 years; the shingles are guaranteed 10 years and another 40 years on a pro rated basis. Thank you RoofCorps. Sincerely, Marilyn C.

Top Shelf is everything I'm looking for in a contractor. Transparent, honest, fast, and reasonably priced. This type of work (roofing and exterior work) is full of less than reputable contractors. Travis and his team are the exception. Quality service at a good price. I have and will continue to recommend them to friends and family.

The Endleys father and son team recently installed Sunrise windows for us. They were friendly and courteous throughout. The work extended longer than we thought, partly because of winter weather constraints. The job was done reasonably well back in January and they addressed most minor issues. In the course of the work, some of our stone coated metal roof shingles got crumpled and bent as they and their subcontractor worked on the roof. We have informed them of the problem and we are certain they will promptly address it to our satisfaction.

Michael was my project manager on an insurance claim I had from a recent hailstorm. He helped me with the claim process, met with my adjuster and I ended up getting way more than I ever expected and more than I believe I would have gotten had I tried to do it without him. Each part of the project such as my roof, gutters and siding were all managed by Mike and I was well informed throughout the process. The end result was professionally installed material finished to my utmost satisfaction. I would certainly call Mike again and I have already multiple times recommended him to friends and family.

Gary Cummings, Mgr. did an outstanding job of putting a new roof on our home in Applewood. He helped us pick out great materials, did a good job of tearing off the old roof, and doing an excellent job of installing the new roof. His team worked hard, and cleaned up the yard . We would recommend him to others in our neighborhood who are replacing roofs.

Zio came out after the hail storm hit my house in June. My insurance company said I needed new plywood installed too since my house was so old (near DU). They did the roof in a day and did the gutters the next day. Overall everything was good. I really like the brown shingle!

I hire FHF Construction to replace my roof after a hail storm here in Lakewood, CO. Oscar and his team did a great job. They assisted me with the process of the claim, showed me roof material selections, and replaced our roof in time, with professionalism and honesty. Choosing this company resulted in no money out pocket (other than my deductible), and it was an excellent experience!

Weatherproof Exteriors is an excellent company from the knowledgeable sales reps to the competent installation crews. I have used them ten times for my personal home and rental properties plus I have referred them to many others with great results. They not only examine your roof for damage but also check your exterior paint, screens, gutters, deck, etc. for damage and coordinate with your insurance company to make sure all damage is covered. They always follow through and meet their commitments. Outstanding service.

Any Weather Roofing replaced a flat roof on my mother's house. They were kind enough to give a senior discount. The cost was very fair. Communication was excellent. My brother and I were taking care of communication for my mother. The men who installed the roof were polite and quiet. The project turned out to be a little more involved than originally planned for, but it was completed on time with little extra cost to my mother. I have not seen the roof, but my brother said it's beautiful, and passed inspection no problem. We highly recommend using Any Weather Roofing.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
