It isn't easy trying to choose which construction or roofing company to use when you suddenly find yourself in that 'hurry up or else' situation of needing to replace the roof NOW. After receiving several estimates - and dealing with the 'maybe I can get to it next week' excuses - one company stood out among the rest - Mountaintop Construction. Steve Petersen came to my home in Bellvue, Colorado, within 24-48 hours, which was over 100 miles from his location. He explained to me in simple terms why the shingles looked the way they did, which actually helped save me a ton of money after advising me to have the insurance company come take a look. The job was completed by a friendly crew - and by Steve himself - within a weeks' time. The county came out for the final inspection and the roof passed with no problems. The shingles look beautiful! I would recommend this company and Steve Petersen's crew without hesitation.

I worked with VML Exteriors for a number of jobs while remodeling my house. They did they siding, exterior painting, gutters, interior cleaning, and trash removal. Throughout the process they were extremely responsive, honest, respectful, thorough and did not try to squeeze me out of extra money. They gave me reasonable bids for the jobs and stuck with their estimates. Out of all the sub contractors I had working at my house, I had the best experience with VML and will definitely use them for my next remodel, and refer them to my friends and family.

This contractor has a staff with many skill sets. I have had them clean/repair gutters, repair my privacy fence, re-roof my house, clean leaves and other debris from my yard after a terrible hailstorm last year. In addition, all of the staff are focused on great customer service, so in an emergency, they make themselves quickly available to their customers. Everyone from office staff to field crew are so friendly and willing to assist. The price of their services is more than reasonable, but what is most important to me is that I absolutely trust them and their work.

I liked Colorado Pro Roofing starting with the very detailed quote that they prepared on the roofing repair. I also liked the fact that they were willing to handle other non-roofing repairs, eliminating the need for working with another contractor. They did an excellent job all around. I recommend them and would use them again.

Great job, Sonners! I had several roofing contractors come give us a bid on our roof, and Sonners got the call. As the owner of small business, myself,(construction related) I appreciate Daves professional opinions and thourogh and accurate explanations to my many questions regarding both my pitched and flat roof. His crew was prompt, diligent and thorough as well. The roofing project turned out beautifully. We are also considering getting our siding replaced and wouldn't consider calling anyone else besides Sonners when we're ready!

I have had the Pleasure of having Adam replace not one, but two roofs, that were damaged by hail. With one of those being an older home, that was a total restore, right down to removing the old wooden lath and putting on new sheeting to bring it up to code. He is the One of the Best Consultants and Contractors out there, for making things happen just the way you want them. He was also able to help me with the Insurance Company, when others failed. Honest and Trustworthy. By my Standards, I rate this Company with 5 Stars...

We hired Top That Roofing and Jared was our salesman and project manager. Top That Roofing was truly a professional company. They are local and a member of the Better Business Bureau which was one of the most important things we were looking for in a roofing company. Jared did an amazing job managing the completion of our new roof. The roofing crew was on time, very clean and all of our inspections passed to code. We called Red Oak Exteriors to complete a roofing and siding project on our home after a hail storm. Jeff was helpful and informative throughout the entire process and wanted to ensure we were thoroughly happy with the final product. He spent a lot of time sitting down with us and listening to exactly what we wanted. He provided us with professional recommendations that we are happy we listened to. Our house looks great! He was also a pro at handling the insurance part and took care of everything. Such a relief to have him on our side. We live in an area that is frequently hit by hail and we are happy to have such a great contractor for any future needs.

All-Around Roofing gets the job done in the utmost professional way with attention to detail. We had extenuating circumstances when it came to replacing our roof and they took it on anyway, and we were more than pleased with the results. They use attractive, high quality products and guarantee their work. Our roof was replaced in one day with little to no disruption to our tenants. Angela who runs the office is amazingly patient, kind, and professional and was a pleasure to work with. She got all the paperwork off to the mortgage company in a timely fashion and was always quick to answer my questions. After trying to work with other contractors in the Colorado Springs area, by far All-Around Roofing is top notch and highly regarded in the roofing industry. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding All-Around Roofing and their work. You won't be disappointed.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
