Melody has been teaching my 10 year old niece, twice a week through an online curriculum (due to covid). She's a fantastic teacher, skilled and sensitive to the needs of the young artist. My niece absolutely loves working with her, and looks forward to each of the sessions. After each session, Melody sends a summary email with some ideas of what she could be working on until the next session. I would definitely recommend Melody and have already done so through word-of-mouth to several of my friends.Jul 17, 2020Verified
I had the pleasure of learning a few skills in creating books with Melody. Even though the current Stay in Place order at the time inhibited us from working in the same space I felt that I had a quality lesson virtually over zoom. Melody was precise in her examples, instructions, and the way she set up her space to make it easier to follow. She provided alternative processes for the materials I had or troubles that arose in my work that quickly calmed any frustrations I may have had due to my perfectionist nature. She was light and fun and I left with two beautiful books!Jun 10, 2020Melody Williams, Art Instruction's reply
Thank you, Katherine S.! I was a bit nervous about teaching art online at first, but it's been fun. I appreciate you being willing to try something new!
Melody offered a really in-depth and informative class. Even though the class was virtual, Melody I felt as though I were learning in person. They have clearly given a lot of thought to how to teach through the digital learning platform. They are kind, patient, and deeply care about art education. I could not recommend Melody more!Jul 21, 2020Melody Williams, Art Instruction's reply
Thank you, Andrea. It was wonderful having you in my class!
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Sewing students pay $30/hour for a one hour introduction or review courses. After initial class sessions, we will determine a direction and number of sessions needed to reach your goals! For Drawing and Painting classes, I offer a 10-week course online (or in-person) for students ages 10 -18. The cost is $30/hr for a total of $300 upfront. Please request to see my syllabus!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Sewing students recieve a recommendation for a specific course and materials needed after initial sessions (usually 1-3 sessions). Drawing and Painting students can sign up for a 10-week course. This course has been developed over years of teaching and through my director role for an art and design college's youth program. My experience with dozens of teachers and hundreds of students led me to develop this highly specified course! Please request to see my syllabus and supply list.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have been working with all ages and with audiences of diverse learners for over 20 years. I worked as administrative director for the Youth and Outreach program at School of the Art Institute of Chicago serving thousands of students annually. My role there encompassed program building, academic and creative benchmarks for students ages 4-18, and teacher training and mentorship. I have a BFA from School of the Art Institute where I studied printmaking and textile arts, and I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Art Education this fall.
