FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, CPDT-KA, through the CCPDT. To maintain that certification I earn continuing education credits through organizations such as the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and the Academy for Dog Trainers. Daily I am networking with other pet professionals, reading the latest in scientific animal behavior studies and furthering the influence of force-free dog training.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began dog training as a hobby in 2000 and progressed through obedience, agility, flyball, animal therapy / hospital visiting and dog safety. But I still had to pay the bills with my career in HR management. When I moved to Colorado in 2013 I decided to jump off the corporate ladder and finally pursue my real passion - dogs!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always check references and ask these 3 questions: 1. What will happen if my dog gets it right? 2. What will happen if my dog gets it wrong? 3. Are there any less aversive options than what you answered to 1 and 2?
