I had to remodel the interior of my store - mainly cosmetic. Build a wall, re-texture + paint, but on a large scale. Michael and his team worked diligently and tried really hard to keep on time with the schedule. He was consistent and had great communication skills if anything changed. I would highly recommend!

We have enjoyed working with Ryan and his team. We recently purchase a home and needed to update it. Ryan has been very helpful with the whole process including city permits. We are opening up the back wall for a large double sliding door and taking out several walls for an open floor plan, which includes a new kitchen. He has responded to all requests in a timely manner and has been very professional.

Leroy came in to repair extensive wall damage we had as a result of removing a wall between our kitchen and dining room, as well as to patch multiple holes in the walls that were made when the electric was updated. He showed up early, was professional and friendly, and was a real pleasure to be around over this 2-day job. Our plaster and lathe walls pose challenges, and a contractor brought in by our GC said we'd have to drywall over everything as opposed to fixing the plaster. Leroy assured us this was unnecessary and proceeded to do a fantastic patch job that supposedly 'couldn't be done' because of the degree of damage to the walls, and he did it at a much lower cost than other options we'd considered. He took it upon himself to do an extensive repair to some drywall in the ceiling, where someone had done a poor job drywalling over the plaster, even though it wasn't in the original scope of the project. He finished on time and (as another reviewer mentioned) did a great job cleaning up - he hosed off our front porch and welcome mats before leaving. I would hire Leroy for other projects in a heartbeat (in fact I plan to), and strongly recommend him to others.

Loch was great. He was on time for our scheduled appointments (early in fact). He was courteous, efficient and did a great job. I had him tape and texture a wall in my living room to match the existing walls. The work was spot on. I would definitely recommend him to others.

We were impressed with the responsiveness and ability to work with our schedule. They did a wonderful job and left our yard cleaner than when they started. Our fence looks outstanding and within two days they were in and out. Highly recommend!

Keith did drywall repair, texturing of some walls, and painted the entire interior of our house. It took longer than expected but the work was very good, I would use Keith again for other jobs. He is knowledgeable when it comes to remodeling jobs. I would give him a 4.5 rating if possible.

I had a great experience with Micheal. I hired him to remove a portion of a concrete driveway and install a vertical fence. The concrete was double enforced with rebarb which we obviously didn't see during the site survey. It required him to rent the machinery a couple of times to break it all apart and it required him to come back multiple times to finish up. He was professional and gracious about the required extra work and he did a great job with installing our fence. I would highly recommend him and will hire him again.

Dave did an excellent job for us putting up white vinyl baseboards and trim in our kitchen, living room, dining room and family room. He went above and beyond in acquiring the right amount of matching materials in the style we wanted, and did the job in the amount of time he said he would, and at a very reasonable price. He cleaned up well after himself, was careful with the new hardwood floors we just had installed, and even corrected a place in the flooring where the hardwood did not come close enough to the wall for the baseboard to cover. We would definitely hire him again. Thank you Dave.

I have been very pleased with Rick’s services. He seems to be a jack of all trades and has helped me with the following issues: broken thermostat, toilet seat, change electrical outlet, install light cover, fix door that would not stay open, set up an exercise bike for me, secured my counter top to the wall, and reattached my stove hood. He has always been professional and prompt. Inexpensive too! I would recommend him!

I needed some help painting because the room that I wanted done has 17' ceilings and walls. Some of the bids I got were astronomical and unaffordable. These ladies came in and gave me a very affordable bid and were able to start quickly. They did a nice job and were very easy to work with. I even hired them to do two additional rooms.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
