"Amanda has done an amazing job at healing several issues I've had for quite a while. Her knowledge of the body and how to heal it is something I've never seen in any other massage therapist. She's getting my body back to where I can return to being more active and healthy."

"When I was first treated by Lucy, I came in with serious back pain. I did not expect her to fix it, but after three sessions the pain disappeared and has not returned. I have probably had her treat me fifteen or twenty times. Being 65 years old, I discovered that I was touch deprived and her body-balancing acupressure and massage treatments impoved my over all health. My recommendation is that you go see her four or five times. I was not versed in Chinese healing and at first very skeptical. She is a very warm and professional person and very supportive. Go see her!"

"Adryanna provided an excellent deep tissue massage. She was very in tune to how much pressure I was comfortable with during the massage and was never too light. She also provided great feedback to areas I need to focus on and stretch more for preventative health going forward. I would highly recommend Adryanna to help with any deep tissue massage needs!"

"Eric demonstrates knowledge and professionalism. I was impressed with his willingness to listen as well as his massage technique. I was recovering from frozen shoulder at the time, and Eric recommended a few stretches, which helped. He was also kind enough to show me a technique to use after learning that I suffer from migraines. I would definitely utilize his service again."

"When Ellie helped with my muscle and joint issue, it was powerful! I've never had a massage be so effective. I could feel as if the flow of energy in my body was being tinkered with and the inner puzzle was being remapped. I think she should be charging more. Thank you so for making my body feel younger, Ellie!!!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
