FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Individual sewing instruction, wardrobe consulting, and coaching is priced at $25 by the hour. Group lessons (4 or more) are $50 per hour, so you could put a group of 10 friends or relatives together and it would only cost a few dollars per person. Dog jackets and quilted projects that I make are priced by the finished size and project complexity. (Please see other sections of my profile.)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Although I am currently working on a doctorate in psychology (which relates to so many areas of life and art), I often attend national conferences to take continuing education classes in design, fiber art, color theory, wardrobe reconstruction, and related areas. I love learning and teaching others what I have learned.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My mother was a professional dress maker and upholstery who taught me to sew when I was in elementary school. I enjoyed taking Home Economics and began designing my own patterns and sewing professionally in high school. Although my degrees are in psychology and human resources,in college I enjoyed courses in architecture, interior design, drawing, consulting, education, and art -- all areas that are connected to my continuing education and work as a seamstress, fabric designer, wardrobe consultant, and artist.
