Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

Alex came out and, to his credit, did spend well over an hour looking at my job, taking measurements for materials and obtaining and providing information in order to provide a quote. He was professional and friendly. However, a couple days later when he provided his quote and it was well over twice the cost I expected, I explained that I wouldn't be able to hire him and asked if he wouldn't mind helping me out and sharing the measurements he'd taken so I could go about ordering the materials myself and maybe take on a DIY project due to budget. He wouldn't do so, citing the time he had spent and stating that to share the measurements with me wouldn't exactly be fair to him. Professionally, I don't know, maybe other professionals would agree with his course of action -- but as a human being (and a single mom who's just trying to live within her budget), I feel he could've been better at being a better human being and just sharing his measurements given that he had, indeed, already put the time in to obtain them. I mean, if I couldn't afford him, then I couldn't afford him. What would be the harm to him to do something so easy and painless that would help lighten someone else's load? :(

Details: Completely new masonry project • Fireplace • 500-1000 • Lightweight concrete • Home

The crew replaced a 20' section of cinder block/brick retaining wall that is 50+ years old. They reinforced the section and added drainage along the bottom to prevent future failure. Alex went above and beyond to locate brick that matched the existing portions of the wall. Alex and his crew were very pleasant to work with and persistent with getting the job done in the face of some weather challenges as well as brick matching challenges. Over all, very pleased with the job that Adirondack Masonry did!

Alex made the whole concept for our new kitchen possible by making the opening for a new backdoor. It has been a functioning door for almost a year now. I would absolutely recommend their work.
