We don't live near each other anymore, but when I was struggling to learn the guitar, I really enjoyed taking lessons with Coire. He always tailored them to what I was interested in and encouraged me to bring new music to our hour. Highly recommended!Aug 15, 2018
I have been taking lessons with Coire for about 6 months now and feel that I have learned an incredible amount for such a short amount of time. I have had other guitar teachers, but Coire is the one teacher that has allowed me to explore unique musical genres and learn the songs that I love instead of learning from a book. There have been times that I picked a song that was too complicated for my level, but Coire worked with me to create an easier version that I was happy with. Coire and I have even created unique covers of songs together on the spot! I have never heard of another teacher doing this and I feel really lucky to be able to work with a teacher who is not only willing, but enthusiastic! Coire has an incredible knowledge of music theory and the way that music and science intersect. As someone who loves science, I have really enjoyed learning about why certain notes sound good with other notes and the way that sound waves intersect to create what we perceive as a beautiful melody. Overall, I have not only enjoyed my lessons, but also learned fingerpicking and barre chords in a few short months, 2 skills that I previously believed I would never be able to pick up. I could not possibly recommend Coire enough! If you are looking for fun lessons with an awesome dude that is more like a friend than a teacher, definitely go with Coire.Oct 11, 2018
Coire is a great teacher with a lot of knowledge to share. I have a few years of experience and he did a great job figuring out the state of my skill set and has tailored the lessons perfectly to push me forward without overwhelming me. His lesson homework is focused around actually making music and not just rote memorization of scales and patterns. Highly recommended to beginners and experienced players alike!Sep 8, 2018Verified
Coire is very talented at teaching as well as playing. I came in as a true beginner, and with his guidance I have developed a solid foundation. He allows you to submit songs you would like to work towards so that classes are rewarding and you learn songs you actually want to play. He makes guitar both approaching and enjoyable!!!Aug 30, 2018
Having my guitar sitting around for years was sad. Coire brought new life and excitement into playing again. Some of the progressions have really added to my songwriting options and helped to create some of my best material yet!Aug 17, 2018
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Lessons are $60 for 60min and offered at my home in Congress Park or in-home (sometimes there may be a small travel fee). I offer discounts for students who commit to 4 lessons a month (weekly is the idea) for $200. Introductory lessons at my studio are $30.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I always like to sit and chat a bit right off the bat--we may or may not even pick up the guitar on our first lesson together. I often use material that my students already enjoy (songs, artists, genres etc) to convey technique, theory, and a longterm functional understanding of music. Sometimes I will share personal compositions, or create riffs that cater to a students skill level to share practice concepts (this is actually one of my favorite parts of the job!) People are all unique. There is no set approach to teaching because there is no set approach to learning. Having to observe and adapt my approach to teaching allows me to grow better at my craft--I welcome it--and it's pretty cool to see just how different everybody is!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I earned my music degree from Musicians Institute in 2005.
