I started taking lessons with Laura to resume my Spanish studies after a 6 year gap and to improve my Spanish conversation skills for travel purposes. I have benefited from her teaching style and learning approach greatly. Each lesson is focused on areas which I struggle and she incorporates reading, writing, and communication into each lesson. Nevertheless, success is still directly proportional to the time and effort I put into each lesson after class, however Laura has provided me with the resources and instruction necessary to learn the language. In the 6 or 7 classes I have had with her already my skills have improved, and I look forward to continue to study with her and advance my Spanish conversation skills over the coming year.
Nicole did a fantastic job tutoring my son for ACT preparation. He increased his combined score by more than 10 points. She not only increased his test taking skills, and his knowledge, but also increased his test taking confidence. She was willing to work around his hectic athletic and school schedule and helped present multiple alternatives for times and locations when we had conflicts. Thank You Nicole!
My daughter elected this year, against the recommendation of her school, to take two difficult math courses in the same year. With Sailie’s tutoring, she has excelled in both subjects and maintained her straight A status. She often has the highest test score in the class, sometimes receiving the only “A”. She told me, “Mom, getting Sailie was the best decision. She makes things so easy to understand!” Thanks, Sailie!!!!!
I have used three services from Miriam Darnell. First, I ran a Druidawn writing club (more below) based on her program. Then I asked Miriam to run one for my son and friends. The I hired her to tutor my younger son. It was FABULOUS! Writing would cause my son to break down and cry. The D & D - like nature of Miriam's program inspired my fantasy-loving son to break through his obstacles independently and start to write freely. Now, those struggles are gone and he wants to write well. He even asked to go to a writing camp!! My older son is learning to write later than I would have liked. That's because his school, with its emphasis on journals and feelings and self-examination, turned him off to it. Miriam's writing club taps into boys' love of adventure and gives them something to write about.
Don is a very talented, experienced, caring & creative educator, with the ability to make learning interesting and fun, and will go above and beyond to give your student the very best tutoring experience.
Maria is kind, patient and very enjoyable. She is well prepared and is a competent teacher. She has lessons planned but is very flexible and tailors her teaching to your needs. Very individualistic approach to improving your spanish. Higly recommended
Grace has been awesome with ACT tutoring and helping me with study skills for my classes at Arapahoe High School. She has been very flexible with my schedule which changes all the time. The study space at Student Society is legit!
Moises has been very accommodating to the needs of our large group. He has done a great job teaching us the basics of Spanish and helping us build language skills that can be used in real world situations!
My 4th grade son began to have bad scores on his math and he said he did not understand it. Jody started him at a level he knew really good and then began to make the math more hard. Jody repeated parts my son did not understand. Today my son is above grade level and performing good in school. Jody is patient, relaxed, very smart, and she used many ways to to help him understand. I tell everyone about Jody and her tutoring methods.
Melissa has been tutoring my son Avery. Avery has been working hard on becoming completely fluent in Spanish. Melissa has been up to the challenge and he continues to improve. This Summer she is going to go through the Spanish AP course with him to get him prepared for that class next year. Melissa is very nice and has been extremely flexible with times and dates in scheduling. I think she has been an excellent tutor for my son and would recommend her without reservation to anyone.
An awesome tutor! My child's grades improved two grade levels within the first month of getting tutored. I am extremely happy!
Honestly Tensaye was one of the best tutors I have had! He has helped me in Chemistry and is one of the most intelligent young men I know! He was able to explain to me all the confusions I had and was just overall a great tutor! Definitely would ask him for help again!
Marc organizes the weekly conversation group at the Boulder Public Library. He does a great job of communicating, organizing and helping all participants improve their Spanish speaking and comprehension skills.
Brenna can explain concepts really well. It made it easier to grasp and understand the math problems that I was trying to deal with. Her schedule was also very flexible, so it was easy to make appointments for tutoring.
We are pleased to provide a reference for Colleen Urban. Colleen tutored our daughter, Julia, at Basic Skills Tutoring in Seattle while Julia was in middle school and high school at The Northwest School (2006-2011). Colleen began as a math tutor but her role expanded, to providing help in organization, study skills, time management, and test preparation. Julia benefitted enormously from the assistance and counsel that Colleen provided. She helped Julia tackle algebra, geometry and calculus, as well as preparing for physics, chemistry, and biology exams. Colleen was always patient but firm with Julia. Their relationship was close and friendly. Julia never complained about going to tutoring and looked forward to her time with Colleen. As well as attending a challenging college prep school, Julia was a serious ballet dancer. Her after-school hours were often taken up with classes and rehearsals. Colleen was very flexible—always finding some time for Julia, even if it meant staying late—when she needed it. Colleen made a lasting impact on Julia’s life and academic career. Julia graduated from Bennington College, with a 3.8 GPA in 2015. She was extraordinarily successful in college and has made a great transition to life after college. Last year, she taught in a French high school. This year she is writing poetry as well as working full-time as she prepares to apply to graduate school. She tackles difficult projects with discipline and enthusiasm. She has the confidence to work independently and the patience to deal with the inevitable frustration that results from challenging herself. These were qualities that Colleen saw in Julia and worked hard to bring to the forefront. For this assistance and support, we continue to be very grateful to Colleen.
Dr. Heger has exceeded our expectations on so many levels. Our teenage daughter wanted to brush up on her french before returning to it in school, so we looked for a tutor and practiced using some computer based language lessons. First and foremost Dr. Heger has the most beautifully resonant voice. She speaks slowly, and richly. You can clearly hear the proper accent and pronunciation every time. The difference between her voice and any recorded practice is like night and day. And of course you get a much more natural back and forth with a real person. She is infinitely patient, or it is probably more accurate to say she obviously enjoys teaching. We started with an hour appt. and upped it to an hour and a half because my daughter said the time just "whipped by" and it was so fun. Really! A teenager in french class! Dr. Heger has a fascinating history and I am so grateful she has shared this with us. I thought we were getting a tutor but we stumbled on a true gem. We highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn french for school, work or travel.
Abdullah was a great tutor. He helped me a lot and demonstrated very good math skills. He was very patent with me. Thank you Abdullah for your good work
Caryn has taken the "work" out of homework. My son has some true learning struggles due to sensory issues and ADHD. He responds wonderfully to Caryn's calm presence. He is completing his homework with ease and has additional time to practice other skills. I highly recommend Caryn!
My 12 yr old son, Koby, doesn't enjoy studying even though he gets good grades he is usually bored from school most of the time. Jarod was the first person that made Koby enjoy studying and made him want to learn more and do better. Koby began to look forward to learning and doing well school . Jarod was always punctual and very professional. Tutoring teens and preteens is not easy but Jarod has a knack I guess to connect with this age group. He made it look easy. I can only say great things about him and I know one day he will achieve great things in his life.
