I hired Gonzalez Construction to do a complete condo remodel. The job included paint throughout, (walls, doors, trim, ceiling), all new lighting throughout, a complete bathroom remodel, kitchen backsplash, refinish the cabinets, and wood floors throughout. I found Daniel to be professional. He handled any concerns I had throughout completion of the project. I would hire again.

Remodeled entire kitchen and 4 bathrooms as well as taking down a bedroom wall. What was so great about the whole experience was just dealing with one person for everything - electrical, gas, lighting, drywall, tile - the work was exceptional.

Matt helped us with a variety of jobs related to our kitchen renovation. We had a very outdated (1940-1950's era) kitchen, and were working to renovate through IKEA. A group associated with IKEA installed new cabinets and countertops, and Matt did literally EVERYTHING else. He performed a difficult demo and prepped our walls for install, and afterwards worked to finish all other aspects of our project- including new tile flooring, cutting for and installing a new sink, and properly installing a microwave/hood combo. These tasks are only a small portion of the total body of work Matt completed however. All told, this was a BIG project for a relatively small kitchen; nonetheless we could not have been more pleased with Matt's craftsmanship, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Matt did not leave anything undone and is clearly passionate about providing the best work possible. Communicating and working with Matt was very easy & straightforward, and there were never any questions about the job being done or the quality of work. Even when we asked Matt do perform additional duties midway through out project, he was flexible in incorporating these additions in. We could not be more happy with our new kitchen and would highly recommend Matt & Big Red Innovations to others (and we will likely be working with him again in the future!).

I can't say enough good things about Katie and her team! I've never used any services like this in the past, so I really didn't know what to expect. I was blown away. Katie discussed the services and costs clearly before the job, so there were no surprises. Let me restate that: There were no negative surprises. To say that I was stunned and surprised by how successfully they accomplished what, for us, seems a monumentally daunting task (clear out and box an entire kitchen to be demo'd and remodeled), would be a gross understatement. And they did it will calm efficiency that reduced our stress literally to zero! They are so good at what they do that I was unprepared for their level of competence and organizational capabilities: Not only did they know better than we did what needed to happen, but they added the extra touches that make their services so valuable. After they had moved, boxed, organized, and cataloged (on the boxes) all of the contents and locations, they finished the job by setting up a 'temporary kitchen' in another room with everything we'd need to survive a month without a kitchen. Soon I'll be contacting her to help re-organize the new kitchen, then we begin the task all over again for the next phases of the renovation. Thank goodness for Katie and her team!!

We had a leak in our upstairs bathroom that went down to the main level so we needed a bathroom remodel and new drywall and texture in our dinning room. They tile work was great and everything looked good when they had finished. I do wish there was better communication on when people were coming and going for the day.

Logan worked with us to create a beautiful custom kitchen island that we absolutely love! I came to him with the idea of what I wanted and he came up with a custom design, helped me pick out coordinating materials, and got the job done quickly and with perfection. He also was extremely fair with his pricing and made sure to stay within our budget. He was so understanding and patient throughout the whole process and involved us every step of the way. I could not be happier with my island and will be hiring Logan again for future work in our home!

It went great. Here's why: - They provide detailed cost estimates and let you know when they have availability, and then they let you decide whether and when you want to move forward. Zero pressure. It's not a negotiation because costs are what they are and they're transparent, so you feel you have all the info with no games or surprises. - They are great at keeping customers updated about when they'll be showing up at the house. In construction, there are constant changes and interruptions, but they let you know the minute something shifts so, again, you're not surprised. - Brian holds every member of his crew to a high standard and is constantly teaching and modeling best practices. It's pleasant to be around the team. - Brian keeps up on the latest materials and techniques and, although his taste is traditional and ours is more modern, he is very open to design ideas and brings a truly collaborative problem-solving attitude to the project. In my experience, when some little hitch presented itself, the "Plan B" turned out even better than the "Plan A." - Brian takes craftsmanship seriously. There's a right way to do everything, and it drives him nuts to see anything done not-quite-right. He built our new bathroom to last 50 years. - The whole team exudes integrity. They're honest, accountable, and consistent. - They care. They want their customers to be satisfied with the end product but they also work to minimize inconvenience during renovations, which are inherently stressful. - They protect your stuff and clean up after themselves. - Are they the cheapest bid you'll get? Probably not. But value for the money is very high. Doing things the right way isn't cheap because it shouldn't be! Bottom line: We've worked with them twice, have referred friends to them, and look forward to working with them again someday. Description of work: We've worked with UBHI twice - in 2013, on a wholesale replacement of our 1985 kitchen, and this winter, to replace half of our (huge) master bath as a result of a longstanding plumbing issue. This review is for the MBR project, although everything said here also applies to our experience back in 2013.

I had Jim completely renovate my home. He put in hard flooring throughout the entire house and stairway, knocked out a partial wall to my kitchen, painted the entire house, got rid of the old popcorn ceiling and more. From the beginning to the end, Jim was always easy to contact and he communicated very effectively. I arrived in Fort Collins on the day he finished and we did a walk through. My jaw just dropped as he showed me all the new updates. He went above and beyond and really made sure everything was done perfectly. He started and finished on time and stayed within my budget. I am constantly getting compliments on all of the renovations. I will be sure to contact him again when I have my next big project. Thank you, Jim for such a wonderful experience and working with me even though I was out-of-state the entire time.

Steven South and his team did a fantastic job with our kitchen remodel. They were very professional, clean, conscious of our time, space and budget and quick to address any concerns that came up during the process. The bid was accurate and pricing was fair and they were responsive and flexible with our many scope changes. The quality of materials and workmanship was excellent and LSE Builders Group will be certainly asked back for our next remodel project.

Clay did an amazing job with our cabinets! He provided a quote very quickly after our initial meeting, and was able to complete the job very quickly, but still very well done! The kitchen, bathroom and desk he refinished look like I hadn’t entirely new cabinets put in! Very pleased with the work that was done!

Brandon installed cork flooring in our kitchen and we love it! From the start of this project, Brandon was prompt with his estimate, the removal of the old ceramic tile, and the installation of the new floor. He completed the difficult task of removing the old tile and installing the new flooring in less than 2 days! His attention to detail was outstanding and we were left with a kitchen that feels like new!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
