Wed Aug 16, 8:18 PM If you’re contemplating hiring a good General Contractor, Daniel Gonzalez and his construction teams are your guys! We hired Daniel to finish 1,300 square feet including an extra bedroom, laundry area, storage room and quilt studio in our basement. Daniel gave a fair quote and he brought top notch teams and hard working guys to the project! His electrician did an excellent job installing all new electrical; and his HVAC guy ran new heat ducts and installed a whole house humidifier. The plumber ran new plumbing for a utility sink and washing machine. The framer did a fabulous job independently building our design to our exact specifications and even added decorative arches. The drywall guys hauled in heavy drywall sheets one-by-one because it wouldn’t fit into our window wells. The drywall installers got 4 rooms put up in one and ½ days! The tapers and texture's did an excellent job taping drywall seams and adding texture in less than two days for each team. Daniel’s crews showed up on time, they were respectful, trustworthy, and we appreciated how hard they all worked to get the job done in a timely manner. Daniel and his trim and paint team did an excellent job painting, installing our flooring, trim, doors, hardware and window ledges. Best of all, Daniel is an honest guy and does what he agrees to do. Treat these guys right and they’ll treat you right! Great job! We love our new space! Thanks Daniel!

The welded wire mesh was installed on the fence. Rigo did a great job of stapling the mesh on the fence. I missed to point out one section on the other side of the house. Rigo came back and for an additional fee, did that section as well for me the very next week. I'm happy with the wire mesh installation on the wooden fence.

Remodeled entire kitchen and 4 bathrooms as well as taking down a bedroom wall. What was so great about the whole experience was just dealing with one person for everything - electrical, gas, lighting, drywall, tile - the work was exceptional.

Andrew put installed new flooring in house, put in new baseboard in our house, and filled in a wall that was previously a loft (creating another bedroom). He clearly takes a ton of pride in his work and was very easy to work with. His work quality was A+ and he was responsive to anything we needed. I would definitely recommend hiring him.

Trent is a straight shooter motivated by integrity. I had requested drywall repair for a 1.5' x 1.5' hole in the wall. When he gave me his estimate he thought it was for a 1.5"x1.5" hole. The job took a little over two hours instead of the quoted one, but Trent refused to let me pay him for the extra time or the materials he had to purchase because of the larger hole. He was extremely professional asking permission to use my sinks and let me know that his saw was going to be loud. He also cleaned up after himself and the work is top notch. I will look to hire Trent again for my future projects.

Matt helped us with a variety of jobs related to our kitchen renovation. We had a very outdated (1940-1950's era) kitchen, and were working to renovate through IKEA. A group associated with IKEA installed new cabinets and countertops, and Matt did literally EVERYTHING else. He performed a difficult demo and prepped our walls for install, and afterwards worked to finish all other aspects of our project- including new tile flooring, cutting for and installing a new sink, and properly installing a microwave/hood combo. These tasks are only a small portion of the total body of work Matt completed however. All told, this was a BIG project for a relatively small kitchen; nonetheless we could not have been more pleased with Matt's craftsmanship, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Matt did not leave anything undone and is clearly passionate about providing the best work possible. Communicating and working with Matt was very easy & straightforward, and there were never any questions about the job being done or the quality of work. Even when we asked Matt do perform additional duties midway through out project, he was flexible in incorporating these additions in. We could not be more happy with our new kitchen and would highly recommend Matt & Big Red Innovations to others (and we will likely be working with him again in the future!).

S&G was quick to respond and gave a good quote for drywalling and texturing my home. Unfortunately there was a bit of mis-communication regarding trash removal (I remember stating that there would be no dumpster present and that they would need to take care of all the trash). There also needed to be correction regarding what walls to texture which delayed the project by a day. Finally I was sad to find the crew left without cleaning up the drywall dust, leaving me figure out how to clean up all the drywall dust myself (hint, it's not easy and will ruin regular vacuums). They should have also been clear that it wouldn't be possible to stay in the house during drywall. My wife and I were living in the house for the whole renovation and intended to continue to do so, but once the drywall was brought in we couldn't move through the house due to the boards blocking hallways, The next day they shoved a bed frame that I was under the impression they were just going to tarp over into the room we were sleeping in making it impossible to get in and out (the bed frame was a custom built frame that's difficult to take apart, so they kept it all together). Overall the work was of good quality, but the communication could have been much better.

From the moment I met with Mike D'Angelo to discuss a deck replacement on a home I was planning to purchase, I had a pretty strong feeling he was honest, knowledgeable and competent. I since learned he can do pretty much any project from the ground up and he and his crew just finished replacing my marble tile flooring with hardwoods, reconfiguring a 3-way gas fireplace including new stonework and taking out some corner and over-the staircase shelving units. I didn't give him much lead time but he was able to make everything happen within my time frame. He listened carefully to what I was looking for and came up with some great suggestions that I ended up using. He also proved to be a one-stop shop and whatever I thought of doing, he either could get it done or knew someone else who could. I highly recommend using Mike and All Universal. I have already signed up for a painting project and plan to use his services for my deck replacement in the spring.

We wanted a tile backsplash installed with an insert above the cooktop and under the hood. Approximately 24 linear feet. Steven Brown arrived at the agreed upon time, went to work immediately to protect cabinets, countertop and floors. Since we had selected 2"X4" tiles, there were numerous cuts that had to be made. Steven was meticulous in his work and just as diligent in leaving a clean work place when he finished for the day. The work took slightly longer than anticipated but Steven never rushed just to finish. We are extremely pleased with the final results and would highly recommend Brown Quality Construction to any prospective customer. Jim and Dottie Mark

I contacted Parasio Construction through Thumbtack regarding finishing our unfinished basement in our new home in Loveland. Fran Garcia owns Parasio Construction and came over the same day we contacted him. We explained we wanted 2 bedrooms, a entertainment room with a fireplace, a finished bathroom with tile shower and light within the shower. He agreed to submit a bid on the project and within a few days replied with his proposal. We had also contacted several other contractors and had their bids as well. Fran's bid turned out to be the lowest of the bids submitted. He explained that as a small company, he could keep costs down. I was also impressed by Fran's general character. He has a calm, positive personality. He is a very good listener. He was realistic in estimating how long it would take to complete the project, and finished in literally half the time that another contractor thought it would take. When the project was completed, Fran sent in an excellent cleaning crew and cleaned our entire house! There were minor issues that came up, but Fran made it right. I can recommend him without reservation, and would use him again in a heartbeat!

I chose Footprints Floors to replace flooring in my condo. I could not be more pleased with how the process went overall. The receptionist was friendly and efficient in our initial call. The estimator showed up on time and was able to provide pricing by the next day. The crew showed up on time and worked late in order to finish by my desired date. I now need to replace some carpet and will be calling Footprints for this project as well.

Hired Lucas/Miles to install lockers at a Rec Center in Eaton, Co. They did everything that was asked/required and more. I am out of state so communication occurred via phone or email. They always took my calls or replied to emails. I feel I received more than I paid for. I will hire again when need arises.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

For more on how to remodel a bathroom and bathroom tiling check out The Complete Thumbtack Bathroom Remodel Guide.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
