I LOVE working with all ages and all levels, helping beginners lay a solid foundation, and helping more advanced students fine-tune their vocal and performance technique and provide repertoire suggestions. It's exciting to hear voices grow & change and watch the smiles that go with it. ONLINE LESSONS - Ages 10+: If you're looking for online lessons, great! Currently I give solo lessons and monthly performance classes through Zoom, and I'm also experimenting with another online platform that promises to have better quality of sound.

I came to Carol Joy Evans with a "mental block" about singing in general, but especially in front of another person. In addition, my voice was persistently hoarse due to tight, clenched muscles. All this was exacerbated by an absolute lack of understanding about how to use the voice to make music. Her knowledge, insight, patience, and encouragement guided me onto a path of recovery and discovery that is remarkable, considering where I started. Outside of private lessons, she offers a variety of formal and informal opportunities appropriate for singers of any level: master classes, group sings, recitals, and musical socials. Her newsletters promote individuals as well as musical events of general interest.

Every moment I spend with Carol Joy I always walk away learning something new or I am gaining a deeper understanding on what I am preparing to perform next. Whether is it learning about a new muscle within the larynx, proper way to hold your head/posture to receive the breath, secrets to pronouncing vowels while singing for optimum sound, techniques on becoming the character, etc. Hands down, this woman knows her stuff! Her demeanor is strong and thoughtful as she guides you through the learning process. She takes the time and energy to make connections to her students on a deeper level with a catered discipline that meets their desires plus a little bit extra. Carol is very professional, and it's apparent she has many years of experience when it comes to singing and performance. Even more importantly, she gets to know the student well and molds her curriculum and methods towards the individual's personal growth as a singer. She's very knowledgeable and friendly, but honest as well. I have recommended her to anyone who is looking to improve their singing.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is pretty simple: 30 min/$30, 45 min/$40 and 55 min/$50. For those with a deep desire to sing and limited resources, partial scholarships are available - let's talk!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Lessons start with an assessment of your current abilities, discussion of your goals, and a tentative plan for working together. Then we'll choose the voice lesson notebook appropriate for your age, and a song collection with accompaniment online accompaniment that will help you practice. Subsequent lessons will cover technique, songs, and musicianship.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy (Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ), studied non-classical styles through The Total Singer Workshop (Lisa Popiel, NYC), and am a member of the National Assocation of Teachers of Singing (NATS) which publishes a monthly Journal on Singing with scientific, medical, and teaching articles relating to singing.
