"I've been following APEX and Austin's training program for a few years now, and I can honestly say these programs changed my life. At APEX, the entire staff not only cares about their client's physical heath, but mental health as well. The APEX program is unlike any other fitness plan out there today. It's easy to follow and stick with but also challenging physically and leaves you with a good sweat every time! I've recommended APEX to some of my other friends in the past who were also struggling to keep on the right track to reaching their fitness goals, and they too were impressed with the quality of training at APEX and excited to find something that ACTUALLY WORKS! If you're a busy person in the corporate word like I am, basic gyms just won't make the impact that training at a gym like APEX will. I go in, work hard for the time I'm there and can leave satisfied knowing that I got a good workout in and made the most of the little time I actually have. "This guy is amazing! I had been entertaining the thought of hiring a personal trainer for sometime, however I was extremely skeptical. I met with BJ and discussed what my options were and what I wanted to accomplish. I had a really good feeling about hiring him as my personal trainer. After our first workout, I knew I made the right choice! It is obvious he has a passion for what he does and sincerely cares about your safety and progress. With his guidance I will be able to achieve new goals I have set for myself and change my life for the better. This guy makes you feel like family. With BJ's help, I now work out regularly, eat healthy and feel like a million dollars after each session. He's has a full workout gym in his garage so there are absolutely no distractions or having to wait for a machine. It's just you and him focusing on safety and form, achieving the goals you set. If you are looking for a personal trainer, BJ is the man. I would look no further. He will coach you on every aspect of working out. From safety, to your diet. "As a former high level athlete that was far too out of shape for his own liking. Sean was able to motivate and push me past the point of it's not worth the struggle of going to the gym. After that I couldn't stop going up the gym an pushing my self to be healthier and getting stronger. In the few sessions I had with Sean I was able to lose 15 pounds in three weeks and roughly 4%-5% body fat. On top of all that he also went the extra mile to get to know me as a person and the reasons why I wanted to change. He continued to push me outside of our training sessions and gave me a plan to follow during the days we didn't have sessions and after the sessions I had paid for. "Willpower Fitness is my favorite workout studio in Denver featuring the latest strength and cardio equipment including TRX bands, bosu balls, kettlebells, machines, stairmasters, and my favorite, the sled. They incorporate everything from traditional lifts (both body and light weight) to plyometrics to cross-fit exercises. One on one or group training, the workouts vary every day and you definitely feel a burn. Diet and nutrition planning is also available. The staff takes pride in what they do and make it a supportive environment. Will and Don have been in the fitness industry for 10+ years and are extremely experienced in their field. Also have a great vibe working together, are joksters, and make everyone laugh. They focus on each individual person and are in tune with their body. Stretching and proper form play a key role in everyone's program. Willpower Fitness is a brand new studio, clean, with plenty of showers, hot water, hairdryers, curling irons, hairspray, lotion, etc. The locker room is a relaxing environment to say the least. They also offer childcare with lots of toys! I highly suggest Willpower Fitness. I don't doubt it will become your gym and sanctuary as well."

"I am still training with Justin but in the time that I have trained with him, he has been very encouraging and I feel so comfortable with working with him. "Lisa is an amazing trainer! She will encourage you and push you to be your best! Her workout and meal plans work effectively and just have to be followed precisely. I am so excited for my results and have only been training for six months. I have lost 4% bodyfat and gained 8lbs of muscle and am finally feeling confident to rock my bikini this Summer! I would highly recommend Lisa to anyone!"

"Versell is a highly experienced and devoted trainer. He adapts his style to the goals of his clients but with an emphasis on strength training and athletic conditioning. I was personally surprised at how much I was able to do beyond my comfort zone- and all because Versell is able to successfully motivate me to push beyond my fears and reservations. He focuses on form, incremental improvement, and supporting his clients in all aspects of their health goals (including nutrition advice outside of our sessions). Not to mention his sense of humor and positive outlook on life makes you WANT to come back and work out with him day in and day out. HIGHLY recommend!"

"Alec is a personal trainer out of respect I call him coach. At 69 as retired military officer of 40 years over a nine year period I have blimped out over 120 pounds with an attitude of being comfortable with blimping and not exercising. My adult daughter out of concern for my disregard for my health birthday present of purchasing two months of 16 sessions.. After a month of sessions I have changed my eating patters, the food I eat and activity level. As a result I have lost 20 good pounds and back on the path toward better self care. My plan after this month is to have a monthly tune up session. Alec works well with the elders of our community such as myself . He is young but wise beyond his years. He is patient with decernment pushing to achieve but not to hurt or humiliate. His physical training program is unique that is a combination of yoga and building muscular agility with counter body stress points without the need for weight programs or visits to the gym. While I am sure he would be an effective training coach for those under 40 I highly recommend him for the geriatric grump such as myself who is wanting to live better...beba "

"After losing close to 150 lbs. over 18 months with Weight Watchers, I started training with Dana at the beginning of October 2015. I had lost the weight but had done no strength training prior to that point. Dana asked the right questions and immediately got me working on strengthening my core and building muscle mass that I had never really had before. With the massive weight loss, I had to relearn movement, balance and more. Dana has tailored my training plan to accomplish this successfully. She educated me on proper nutrition with specific instructions on protein and carbohydrate intake in conjunction with Weight Watchers. The difference I have seen since that time has been fantastic. Working with Dana I’ve seen my body weight continue to drop while my lean muscle mass has increased. I’m seeing the toning and definition that I hoped for. My massage therapist has commented on the difference she’s seen in my muscle tone and the strengthening of various muscle groups due to the workout program Dana laid out for me. I know this difference is because of the guidance and encouragement from Dana over this time. I’m also a runner, having completed two Half Marathons since December 2015. With the core and endurance training Dana has put me through, I’ve cut over 3 minutes per mile off of my running pace in the last 3 months. Her style is direct and honest, which I appreciate. She doesn’t pull her punches and doesn’t sugar coat things. That makes a world of difference when your focus is actually seeing noticeable results. At the same time, she’s been extremely supportive and encouraging since day 1. I know that the progress I’ve made physically and in my self-confidence are directly related to the instruction, guidance and support Dana has given me. If you want results from a trainer that knows how to achieve definable and measureable goals, you need to work with Dana and give her 100% of your effort. You will see results. You will feel better and stronger. I'm happy to provide this review based on all the changes I've seen working with Dana. "

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living.
