I have been taking lessons with Ray for quite some time now. I have been super blessed with his patience with me. He will meet any student of any level exactly where they are currently at. He is willing to go as simple or as advanced as you like with music theory, sight reading, tabs, writing music, ect. He is extremely affordable and has exceptional knowledge and experience in music and the instruments that he teaches. Not only does he know his stuff, but he also is very gifted at teaching in general. Ray is personable, friendly, well educated, and professional.

Ray has an amazing personality. He has been playing for decades and his experience shows in his ability to understand the difficulties of a beginner, keep things interesting and keep a student motivated. Ray is well versed in many styles of guitar from classical to rock, jazz to country. Be careful of getting into a discussion though, sometimes it seems like we can talk for hours about inspirations and influences....Just kidding, I love talking shop with Ray.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

One gets what they pay for. Get a working musician, with a degree in music, and years of experience and then judge the tuition figure from there.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

With most students, I have them bring me a list of ten to twelve "favorite " tunes that they can't but want to play. At home, I transcribe the song to the student's ability and we work on it. Goal is one to two songs per week.It is really a fun way to learn. For the more serious, I engage a program that teaches the student to read NOTATION as contrasted to tablature. (I can teach tab reading also of course.)I am very flexible in designing protocols as everyone learns differently, so the task is to make it fun while the student employs the way that is most comfortable.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a degree in guitar performance. I have made my living playing gigs and teaching in the Denver area for over forty years. I have played in speciality bands ex; Jazz, Rock, Blues , Country, Bluegrass, pop, Variety, etc. I have been employed in recording sessions in all above styles and have recorded with bands, singers, instrumentalists, etc. I have made my living exclusively as a musician. I have a minor in psychology with an emphasis in communication. I was cut out to be a music teacher and am fulfilled as such.
