Introduction: I am very professional and flexible in my musical abilities and tastes. While my main training (two degrees) is in classical piano I very much also enjoy playing some pop, standards, and light jazz and can play by ear as well as by sight. As a teacher I believe in providing as broad a foundation as possible while being very flexible and understanding of each students needs. We are all similar and yet so different at the same time. I am a very patient teacher and believe my biggest job (and honor) is to make the experience enjoyable because when we enjoy something we tend to succeed. I enjoy working making people happy through music whether it be through a performance that brings some joy and peace or through helping someone fulfill their dream to make music as well.

My son started piano lessons at 5 years old, and then at 7 years he started taking lessons from Gary. The past two years of lessons with Gary have been incredible. Gary does an excellent job of teaching him proper piano techniques and skills such as timing, body position, rhythm but make it fun. My son had already developed some bad habits or not learned them correctly the first two years of lessons. Gary worked diligently to make sure those were corrected and he had a good foundation and has improved exponentially these past two years. Gary incorporates songs my son is familiar with into his lessons as well as technique practice. With his improvement over the past two years, he has also developed a love for playing and frequently asks if he can practice rather than me having to constantly remind him to practice. I highly recommend Gary as a piano instructor and we hope to have several years of him teaching our children.

Gary teaches my six year old son and myself. (I am a late intermediate student.) He is an amazing mixture of skill and kindness. Some highly talented musicians are arrogant but Gary is gentle and encouraging. Being a great pianist doesn't necessarily mean you're a good teacher, but as a former elementary school teacher, I am very impressed with the way he's able to teacher essential skills at our different ability levels. Gary also really tailors my son's and my lessons to our unique personalities and interests. I can't imagine there being a better piano teacher in Northern Colorado. I highly recommend him.

I hired Gary to play for a cabaret I was doing at the Stanley Hotel! It wasn't last minute but it was a short turn around. He was so professional and knocked it out of the park. From a performer standpoint he followed, took direction and was profecient in all styles of music. I have hired him to do another cabaret event this year and cannot wait to have a wonderful night of music!!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I bill piano lessons on a monthly tuition basis. For weekly 30 minutes lessons the monthly rate is 92.00. For weekly 45 minutes it is 132.00. For piano performing events such as business events, weddings, fundraisers etc. my rate is approximately 75.00 an hour with a two hour minimum. However things can vary a bit depending on the event, travel time, etc. Also what kind of equipment I need to bring along such as sound systems. etc.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A good first step is usually to invite you over to my home studio for a free casual meet and greet time. No pressure at all to sign up! Just a time help you decide if I am the right fit for you:)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have two degrees in piano; a Bachelor of Music from Tyndale College, Toronto, and a piano performer degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music, also in Toronto.
