I was really happy with Obsolete Tile Roofing and Concrete Services. I had roof repairs that needed to be made in a timely manner due to a home inspection with a sale. He was very responsive, honest and got the job done. I would recommend. Thank you!

What a great first experience with Thumbtack and Alex & Yana!! Alex was fantastic - great at communicating from the start!! This is something where a lot of contractors fail miserably. He came out to our place in the mountains and didn’t try to scam us or come up with some crazy solution and he stands behind his work!! He looked at our metal roof and the leaky chimney area, and ended up fixing some of the flashing and caulking around the chimney! Time will tell if that was the issue, but based on the pics I am guessing he is spot on. Thank you so much Alex for everything!!

They were very accommodating as it pertained to delays from the roofing company. Once we finally received our install dare of our new roof, I called Chuck and they scheduled us in for our new gutters 2 days later. We really appreciated all their work.

Brent with Ropa roofing came by to inspect my roof after I had noticed some leaking on my ceiling. I fully expected there to be roof damage causing the leaking and wanted to get quotes from different roofers in the area for replacement. First off, Brent was very professional and knowledgeable. I felt very comfortable with his ability to assess the condition of my roof, lend his expertise in working with my insurance company, and ultimately hiring him for the replacement of my roof. After inspecting my roof, Brent said that the roof is actually in decent condition and would not require replacement. This helped me to trust Brent even more knowing that many contractors will do anything they can just to get the contract. He helped me with some minor repair work and I haven't had a problem since. I know that when its time for me to replace my roof I have someone that I can trust will not only give me a fair price but will get the job done right. With so many crooked contractors out there, it is a breathe of fresh air knowing that I have a trustworthy roofer. Thanks Brent!

After a hailstorm we started asking our friends if they could recommend any good local roofers. We had been hounded by many out-of-town roofing companies after the storm, but we knew better to use a local company with a good reputation. Luckily a friend of ours highly recommended Highroad Roofing, and we are glad they did! The quality of the work was superb as we have not had a problem with the new roof and we are two years out from the replacement. Colby and his crew were a pleasure to work with. We would highly recommend using Highroad roofing.

Rory was quick to respond to our urgent need for roof repair before expected precipitation and arrived at the exact time he said he would. He explained what he would be doing and what he would look for, was very professional and knowledgeable and took photos to show me what he found that needed attention as well as the repairs he made. VERY impressive and made quick, expert work of what needed to be done at the pre-agreed fee. I highly recommend him for any roofing work or roof repair you may require. He's a good man!

Joe really helped us by repairing several places around the house. The work included replacing roof shingles, repairing a section of drywall in our bathroom ceiling (which included texturing and painting), and sealing a few cracks in the corners. We love the outcome! Joe was a pleasure to work with and offered a fair price. Joe and his colleague Joe were always quick to respond, worked with our schedule and were both very professional and friendly. We would not hesitate to recommend Ridgeline Services to anyone looking for quality and affordable help.

In October 2016 I had a roof replacement on my house due to hail damage. Chris helped file a claim adjustment with my insurance company because they failed to include a few items needed to complete the repair. Chris went above and beyond to coordinate the installation with all my neighbors in the HOA. When the job was complete, he made sure I received all the warranty information I would need in the future. Always courteous and professional - I would highly recommend him to my friends.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
