Gutter cleaning of heavy pine needle debris in a two story bi-ievel house. Francisco arrived when scheduled and spent several hours cleaning and bagging the needles. Also installed spout filters to catch future debris from clogging down spouts. Cost was reasonable and in mid range of estimates received. I would have no problems hiring again and recommending to family and friends.

Mike was in contact with me and called about getting roof/gutter access to the back of my house and we were able to resolve it over the phone. Mike was very responsive, efficient and did a great job on clearing my gutters ahead of the next big storm.

David was amazing! He replaced most of the duct work in my house and installed a new AC unit. His guys showed up on time and cleaned up when they were gone. I can't say enough good things about David and his team. We'll definitely use him again.

Forest and his team are fantastic. They tiled, trimmed and installed all the flooring for a new house I built. I originally hired them just to tile but after it was clear that I couldn't lay the flooring myself, Forest's team stepped in to help. Then I lost my trim crew due to timing issues and, again, Forest and his team stepped in to do the job. Forest has fantastic ideas for design and functional use of space and his crew can implement them all! They're way ahead of schedule - I can't believe how quickly they work - and Forest's pricing is very competitive. I'm looking forward to working with Forest and his team in the future!

Ian and Skyler replaced exterior trim boards on my house (tudor style). They were able to get to boards that I couldn't or wouldn't replace myself. Ian was responsive to my need for assistance on short notice and both were willing to tackle some difficult tasks.

Daniel and his team helped my wife and I transform a house built in 1906 into a modern masterpiece. They did an UNBELIEVABLE job at a very reasonable price. At first, I was a little hesitant to use them as one reviewer perviously gave them a wretched review, but I couldnt be happier with the end-results. They completely remodeled the basement, added 2 bathrooms, re-did another bathroom, dry walled multiple rooms, built an amazing egress window well, installed a water heater, sewer ejector pump, kitchenette, and laid tile/ flooring throughout the house. Separately, on a personal level Daniel and his crew are some of the nicest individuals you'll ever meet. IF YOU ARE EVER ON THE FENCE ABOUT USING DANIEL AND HIS CREW DONT BE....FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME AND ID BE HAPPY TO SHOW OFF HIS WORK. This certainly wont be the last time we use him. Hire This company! Hire Jake & his brother! I had the nightmare of nightmare general contractors come into my home and leave it in shambles. The electrical was left dangerously disorganized. Jake and his brother showed up and worked around the clock to make sure the whole house was 100% safe and ready to go for me and my family. It feels great knowing people like Jake have your back and will make your home safe secure modern and functioning exactly as you like. I’ll use these guys again and again. Thanks for your work guys! Nick did a great job repairing rotten wood on the eaves of my house. He didn't realize my house was way out of his service area when he took the job, but he cheerfully honored his commitment and took care of the project. He has an extraordinary work ethic and does high quality work. I would hire him again without hesitation.

Abstact builders is a great source for me. Silas has worked on older homes so is familiar with the things he could run into. Although mine is over 100 yrs old. Puting in a window in the kitchen seemed easy enough til it didn't pop out and he found it bound in lath and plaster. No one freaked out but it took saws and patience, and new ideas and Silas had all that. He is not working continually but constantly working in one part of the house or another, finding what works and what doesn't, reorganizing the way things need to be done instead what CAN be done to get it overwith. I am very impressed and by the time he is finished this will be a working model that is also beautiful and still a very old home. 7

Julio was recommended to me and we couldn’t be more pleased with him. He was able to work us in quickly and the quality of his work is excellent. When he found out that I was trying to get our house redone for a family wedding, he offered his services to help remove paneling, trim, and wallpaper. We were able to meet our deadline thanks to Julio and Manuel. They were always punctual and showed up as promised. I recommend Him highly.

Tim came over due to a flood we had in our basement because we initially thought there was a mold issue, our house being older Tim explained that asbestos might be a factor. He got us in contact with an environmental consulting company called BTG & Associates to come out and take asbestos samples of the floor tile and the drywall. Both companies were punctual, honest, and very knowledgeable. Without Tim we wouldn't have even thought about asbestos being an issue. Money well spent to say the least. Not only did he do clean and safe work to remove, him and his subcontractors came back and rebuilt our drywall and flooring in the basement like we never had a water loss.

Allcon Builders was an enormous help in the remodel of our home. Matt was very easy to work with and allowed us the flexibility we needed to complete the project. He worked extremely hard to finish our project on time especially given the tight timeframe we were working with.

My husband and I hired Custom Builders LLC (Kaleb) to tear down the half hall staircase leading to the second level of our home and replaced it with a open rail and baluster staircase. Kaleb's responsiveness throughout the job was great. We where kept informed about the timing of when materials would arrive and when each segment of the job would be completed. Kaleb's work is high quality and he kept a very clean work space between each segment of the project. We got very good value for the job. We had done some research about prices before we hired Custom Builders and found Kaleb's price for the job was very reasonable. The timing on completion of each segment of the job was longer than planned. Completion time was double the time that was initially set. There were a number of issues with getting the correct materials from Kaleb's vender. If you are willing to work with a small contractor who does the work himself Kaleb Shultz (Custom Builders LLC) is your guy.

Clint arrived when he said he would. He evaluated my needs and told me if it was something he couldn't do. He was pleasant and easy to have in my house. His work was completed to my satisfaction. I will have him do future projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
