Mike cleaned the carpets left very soiled by some tenants. The carpet looks great. He was able to get all the pet stains out. And I didn't have to wait for it to dry to get other work done. He was very nice and professional. He came when he said he would. He also cleaned the grout in the tile floor at the house. I didn't know that floor could look so good. I'm very happy with Mike's work and would hire him again.

I am so pleased with the job Vinson did on my wool carpet. Its probably at least 14 years old and had a lot of stains including a big coffee stain that was about 4 years old and the previous cleaners could not get it out. Its gone now! The entire carpet looks practically new again. He's coming back next week to do my windows. And the price was great! I highly recommend him.

Andrew did a fantastic and thorough job. He was on time, courteous and respectful of our home. Additionally, he noticed spots I hadn't and fixed problems other carpet cleaners in the past didn't. Will definitely use him more in the future!

I was blown away by the punctuallity, professionalism, and quality of this carpet cleaning company. They did an impeccable job at cleaning our carpets, which had some urine odor due to an older dog. David was so great to work with and this is one of the best experiences I have had with a carpet cleaning company. I will be hiring them next time.

They did some rooms for us a few months ago. Cleaners we've used in the past always leave a bunch of soap within the carpet, which then attracts dirt and you constantly have to re-clean. We haven't had to clean in months, but look forward to someday having them back.

Glass block shower clean out and minor grout work in kitchen. Easy to leave good review when all goes well, but we had a couple minor issues which were resolved quickly with good communication.

Monica and her daughter showed up on time and did a great job. They are very experienced cleaners, were very efficient and were in and out in a reasonable time. I am very happy with their work and will use them on a routine basis. I think I am lucky to have found them.

On time. Professional. Efficient. My carpets look great. I have been trying out other carpet cleaners for a few years and have come up with a long list of who NOT to call. I FINALLY found the right carpet cleaner. I WILL be having Starshine back.

Our house looked spectacular after she was finished cleaning. My roommate and I were both very happy with the way the house had been cleaned and how deep of a cleaning was standard. Sara even rearranged our kitchen cabinets just as we asked. We will definitely be asking her to come back.

Nicole cleaned EVERYTHING. She was incredibly thorough and did such a good job. And her personality was the best... I've hired cleaners before who made me feel very self-conscious about the fact that my house was a mess. I never got that from Nicole. Friendly, warm, encouraging. I haven't felt so good about my house in years!

The cleaners did a fantastic job - my place was spotless. They even folded my toilet paper rolls with little triangles, which was a really nice touch. I have a toilet that seems to have some sort of rusty water issue in the guest bathroom that leaves a terrible ring - they were able to scrub it out entirely. I was very happy with the service and will continue it indefinitely.

Wonderful experience! I love the self service website. I can go online and schedule my own appointment and pay with a credit card. I chose to pay using my PayPal account. That's just awesome. Who else does that. This company is truly customer service oriented and they do great work. The lady who came out cleaned up everything. The house is spotless and it doesn't smell like chemicals since they use eco friendly cleaning products. Totally worth it. Give them a try and you will be hooked just like me.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
