Sara is the best Spanish teacher you could ask for. I took only 17 lessons with Sara before spending over a month in Peru and I can tell you she is absolutely spectacular. I came into these lessons with no prior knowledge of Spanish and with only 17 lessons I am able to carry out intermediate conversations with native speakers. She provides you with more than enough material to understand both conversational and grammatical rules of Spanish. DO NOT CHEAT YOURSELF HIRE THE BEST. Also the prices she charge is far cheaper than the quality of education you will receive.

I had felt very nervous just before i started to take English lessons from Raul. I had some anxiety and a negative thought about i will never learn English. After taking my first class, i changed my negative thought. I have been taking English class for 2 months and i feel the differences and improvements on my language skills. Raul is a perfect teacher. He is so professional and informed about how to teach. He makes me more courageous to learn English every day. He is also very patient, kind, friendly and understanding. He shares all his informations, sources and experiences about what you want to learn. Learning with him is a big joy. I feel not only happy but also very lucky to know him and to take class from him.

After years of procrastinating, I finally started taking Spanish lessons. Beatrice has made the process both stress free and enjoyable. She develops lesson plans to provide the needed basics, but can adjust faster or slower based on my ability to absorb the information. Beatrice is both friendly and patient and she is thoroughly knowledgeable in the Spanish language.

I’ve only been meeting with Humberto about a month but it’s been very helpful to keep my Spanish learning going. Lessons are a mix of conversation, vocabulary/passage work, and grammar work. I had previously taken classes but I’ve appreciated the flexibility of being able to schedule a time that works best for me each week. The near grand central location is also very convenient.

I highly recommend Maria Betancourt to anyone, including adults and children, searching for an excellent private Spanish teacher or tutor. She is friendly, sensitive and engaging while staying on task. I am a health care provider needing to use Spanish in my work. Since I started working with Maria, I have made wonderful progress in conversation, grammar, vocabulary and writing. Her fees are very reasonable and she comes to my office for the lessons. I think she's a great find and I hope you do too!

Irene is a knowledgeable and fun Spanish teacher. Her grasp of Spanish grammar is quite impressive and there is no question she cannot answer. Her sessions are motivating and interesting. She prepares engaging activities which make the lessons stimulating. Irene’s proficiency in Spanish and Latin American literature is another perk of studying with her. I would recommend her without any reservation to anyone who is looking for Spanish tutoring.

Hi, Ana has been my Spanish tutor since last October. She is very professional, always on time and very friendly. I am French, I had study Spanish in Spain for 6 month long ago and I needed it to refresh and improve it because of my job here. Ana is doing a good job, se prepares her lessons very carefully and I am learning and improving all my Spanish skills in a fun way through videos, songs, articles, games.. It is always something new! I only miss to study a little more grammar but I know is boring and she prefers to include it through exercises related to the lesson we are studying at that moment. But, absolutely, I recommend her lessons. Blandine

Rafael is an excellent teacher. My spanish has significantly improved in just a few weeks. I have been taking 2-hour lessons twice a week, and he does a great job of keeping them interesting by switching between different exercises. He has made the language come alive for me.

    About

From an early age, my parents stimulated my foreign language interest with Spanish language learning records and a French dictionary. Then in high school I took as many foreign language courses as possible in order to initiate my knowledge of Latin, Spanish, and French. My best foreign language learning experience in college was 2 years of residence in a French dorm, La Maison Francaise, where French became my second language. Then Spanish became my third language after my summer in Barcelona. When I graduated, I taught both languages in Pennsylvania public schools and received my permanent certification in both subjects. Since then I have also studied Italian, Modern Greek, Danish, and German. As a foreign language student now, I know the fear of responding incorrectly to a teacher's/tutor's questions, and in my tutoring I strive for an open atmosphere in which students feel free to ask questions to increase their comprehension and enjoyment of speaking, reading, writing and listening to Spanish or French.

Spanish tutor. Friendly, patient, well prepared, and supplied new books and learning materials that were more than adequate. Most importantly, Damaris was flexible in setting up appointments and shows up on time.

    About

I make learning a language fun through various activities such as singing, acting out and immerse in the culture right here in the U.S. I enjoy teaching culture as well as the language in addition since I myself am from Peru. What also makes me stand out is that my student will take a pre and post assessment to ensure their time with me has been effective, as well as keep the student accountable for their learning.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
