Joseph is super responsive with an emphasis put on customer service. He helped me with a dishwasher repair job that other installers refused to do. I was very satisfied with his work, communication, and availability. He is now my go to for anything having to do with my apartment!

Ultimately, I decided to hire Marty after receiving quotes from other contractors to install a new hood vent that would also required some duct work as well. The main reason why we decided to go with him is because he took the time during the estimation process and tried to look for other solutions whereas another contractor that came said it should only be done one way. In addition to that, Marty always answered my questions in a very timely fashion which is always a big plus for me and even though there was a little additional damage to my roof while he was installing my hood vent, he didn't change the original price from what he quoted which shows a great deal in my book. We have plans to do more with this kitchen and Marty is going to be our GoTo guy going forward. He did a great job, and although it took a little while, it was done right and thats more than i can ask for. Highly recommend him.

Various jobs around the house- fixing the roof soffits, fix the holes in my walls and ceilings, install light fixtures, fixing an annoying door, assess the problem with the roof leak which he gave us the solution for ( he detected a troubling, damaged chimney which resulted in ceiling leaks in my living room). He is coming back for a slew more of work at my house because he showed up on time, was very courteous ,easy to speak with and his rates are extremely reasonable. When I posted my needs in Thumbtack, he immediately, courteously responded to offer his services. He answered his phone every time my husband called to speak with him which is very important to us. There is almost nothing he does not know about- he is even going to come back another time to do our heating inspection. He is a professional, very respectful and I feel that I can trust him which is very important. I am so happy that I trusted my instinct when we hired Fazam.

Mr. Lopez was prompt, communicated clearly and did a neat job right on schedule. The job included removing a deteriorated cellar ceiling, installing new sheetrock and painting a large and complex area of ceiling. It looks good and we appreciate that he was always on time and considerate.

Bathroom piping rerouting, remove and install new vanity, recessed lighting and exhaust vent installation and popcorn ceiling removal. Luther was such an outstanding contractor. Very knowledgable, good pricing and did not raised prices or did less work. Not once I saw him slack, just killing time. He made things work and really gave me confidence that I was getting what I paid for. Without a doubt I will have him on my speed dial for future projects. Those negative reviews on his profile, not even close to the job Luther performs. He is extremely professional and takes pride on his work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Elmer responded quickly -same day. He was very professional, knowledgeable, courteous and reasonable priced. He came well equipped with the specific tools needed and the "know how" for the job requested- (Air dryer vent/hook up/clean out) and even offered options to meet our needs and budget. I will certainly be calling him again in the future and highly recommend.

I can't say enough about Weathertite Systems. I hired the company to put a new roof, skylights, and chimney on my him in Southbury, Connecticut. The work was done to perfection, on time, everything cleaned up and not left on my lawn. They gave me a wonderful price and didn't ask for a penny down until the job was done. I called them back to put gutter guards on my home a year later and that job was also done to perfection. My neighbor was so impressed with their work they hired them and had them put their roof on.

Christopher was very fast when responding to my call about my leaking roof. Came the next morning and checked everything out and took his measurements. Got my proposal via e-mail in the afternoon, which was very detailed and fairly priced. We signed the contract the next day and work began the following morning. All work was done the same day, he sent me pictures and videos to update me (since I wasn't home). Gutter guys came in today (day after roof install) and installed ALL NEW gutter system! Overall, very great service, very professional and very friendly. Everything was explained to me before and throughout the entire installation process and everything was done cleanly to make sure there was no damage done to my property. I would recommend Christopher and New Image Roofing to anyone that is looking to get their roofs repaired or replaced!

We are very happy with our roof! We live in Woodbridge, so a considerable distance from Greg, and he always arrived early in the morning to start. We threw a few changes in along the way, and Greg was very accommodating to our requests and even installed sun tunnel skylights, which we requested AFTER he had already starting roofing. He went to the distributor directly in order to make it happen, and they've made a huge difference in our home -- lots of light. Our roof looks GREAT too. Prices were reasonable and in line with other quotes we received. Highly recommend GW Home Improvement.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
