Gary has been my daughters teacher for 4+ years. She has now done gigs playing piano, bass, guitar, drums, and vocals. I've got a young female Paul McCartney on my hands here thanks to Gary.
Joe is a terrific teacher and jazz guitarist. It's been a delight to watch him teach my son and others in the improvisation group. He creates a welcoming, supportive and joyful learning environment. His love for music is infectious! My son has excelled with Joe. We are so grateful to have him in our son's life.
I have been taking guitar lessons from Pete for about 5 years now. The 5 years that I have been getting lessons have been a really good and I have learned so much about the guitar. Firstly, when I first started I was starting from scratch and had absolutely no idea on how to play. But now im able to play with pretty good speed and keep up with the fast songs. His teaching style I believe is very good and easy to understand, helping you excell in whatever you are doing. And it' not boring at all. Each lesson I have had, I have at least laughed a couple of times. So overall he is a great teacher who I would recommend to anyone if they were looking to learn the guitar or any other instrument he teaches.
Tommy has been an amazing guitar, bass, and audio engineering teacher. Recently, we've been working together on some college auditions involving jazz bass, which I knew little of in terms of techniques and terminology. With Tommy's help, I've learned what would have taken me forever, and I feel a lot better about the audition process.
I love learning from Joey. I have never played a guitar before and have no musical talent what so ever. :) He gave me great recommendations as to where to buy a guitar and was even willing to come down and help pick out a guitar that was suited best for me. In our lessons, Joey breaks the chords down for me so that I can understand them easily. He goes over things from the lesson before so that I get it down pat. He is extremely understanding, flexible and a fun guy to learn from. While we are still going through different chords, (I am on my 4th lesson), I look forward to learning how to play songs with him in the near future. I would definitely recommend him to any one who would like to learn how to play.
I have gone to pat for 7 years and he has taught me countless songs, riffs, scales, techniques, and chords and even taught me the bass guitar. He never makes you do anything you don't want so you can learn whatever you want to learn. He's a great guy and I look forward to going to his lessons every week.
Bob is an excellent teacher! I have been taking bass guitar lessons with him for the past 4 months. As an adult just beginning to learn the bass, I am very happy that Bob tailors the lessons for me and my interests. From the beginning, we played songs from musicians that I enjoy (Black Sabbath, The Kinks, The White Stripes) and not the simplistic Mary Had a Little Lamb stuff you find in most beginning guitar books. Bob also incorporates music theory into our lessons in a fun and interesting way. For example, we'll be working on a Black Sabbath riff and he'll use it to demonstrate the pentatonic scale. Bob is kind, friendly, and professional. Our lessons start on time and he uses every minute of the lesson to its max. I am always excited to go to each lesson. I would highly recommend Bob to anyone looking to learn the guitar or bass guitar!
I've been working with Andy for over a year. He's tried to work with my strengths on bass guitar and provide me with ways to overcome my weaknesses. He teaches in a way that's clear and not overwhelming and what I learn leads somewhere. I would especially recommend Andy for adults because of his patience and willingness to adapt his lessons to me, the person that he's teaching. I'm so looking forward to learning more and playing live.
Tim came recommended from a friend. I had been playing guitar and bass for close to 20 years, without ever taking a single lesson. I'd been focusing on bass for the last 10 years, and decided that I wanted to take my bass playing to the next level - theory, reading music, etc. Fast forward a year later, and I'm reading and learning music not only from sheet music, but from jazz charts - something I hadn't even imagined going in. I've gained a new appreciation for the music as a result. Everyone that knows me well has commented on the improvement in my overall bass playing, from the wife to people who I've spent years jamming with. In short, if you're looking to expand your abilities, you can't go wrong with Tim.
Over the coarse of 6 or so years Chris Schreiner has given me countless one on one bass lessons. Not only is he a personable guy, he always finds inventive ways to help a student succeed; Professionalism (on time, proper equipment, and real life experience), clear articulation (Terminology and Explanations), and positive attitude will not only encourage you but motivate you to do well. His versatility is also a plus. He has no problem catering to peoples musical needs no matter how far out it may be. All in all, great guy, great teacher!
My son and I have been taking lessons with Lynn for 5 or 6 years now. She is very patient with younger students (& older students having "senior moments"). She is also flexible in her lessons in that if we want to work on theory, jazz, rock, blues, she will cater to our requests.
Dave has been my guitar instructor for the past 8 years, since I first began playing at age 60. He has a most effective teaching technique which allows skill building while permitting musical interest and direction to evolve. He is strongly suited to instruction in many genres including Classical/Flamenco, Jazz, Folk and Acoustic Rock.I have seen him work well with quite young students and those considerably older than my age of 68. Quite honestly, it is nearly impossible to request a song that Dave cannot play, transcribe, and find a key in which to play the song comfortably. He writes the charts for his latin jazz band, so my occasional forays into the world of music theory have also been well supported by Dave.
Guitar Hangar is a full-service music store, with a wide selection of instruments from beginner to high-end instruments at competitive prices. More importantly, they focus on service after the sale -- including repairs, maintenance, accessories and perhaps most importantly for new and intermediate musicians, lessons. Rick has been my go-to guy for more than 10 years, and I give him and Guitar Hangar my highest recommendation.
I have been taking jazz guitar lessons from Scott Sanchez for six months and have been inspired by his vast knowledge of the instrument. He has been a superb teacher and mentor, who has guided me through the basics and into the more demanding aspects of jazz guitar. In addition to using a standard music instruction text, Scott has supplied me with a number of sheet music pieces which illustrate core concepts while promoting the learning of real jazz standards. As a result, lessons are kept fresh, fun and challenging, rather than being devoted to endless exercises. Scott tends to let the serious student be somewhat self directed and has provided me with every opportunity to reach my musical goals. On a personal level, Scott is very flexible and easy to deal with. I truly believe that I could not have chosen a better music teacher.
I first heard Preston play at an anniversary event for one of Torrington's small downtown retailers. I was setting up a birthday party for my dad's big 80th at the time and thought the jazz guitar would be just the thing. I was right, and Preston didn't disappoint. The music really added a classy ambiance; I got more compliments on the music than the food and the food was also superb! A social event is really missing something without music. Give this troubadour a try sometime.
Kevin is a terrific guitar teacher. He's very knowledgable (classically trained but knows a lot about different musical genres), comes to lessons prepared, and is very conscientious about teaching what I want to learn. I would definitely recommend him to anyone at the beginner / intermediate level.
Ben is quite an intuitive musician and instructor. His knowledge dives deeper than technique. With Ben you'll hone style, taste, and become a sharper musician. He has a lot to offer any level of musician; beginners to professionals alike. Plus, he is a fun and inspirational gent to work with.
I am a seasoned musician playing live for over 40 years. My first instrument is bass, but I can also teach beginner guitar, keyboards or how to write your own music on computer using M.I.D.I. (musical instrument digital interface). Do not be fooled by my years, I still play in an extremely high-end rock band, and can play all styles of bass playing. I am patient, friendly, I have a good sense of humor, and I get results. I am a good communicator and I have a method of how to look at your instrument without it intimidating you. Each student has different goals, each one wants to play different music, if you have the desire and willingness to practice, you will see steady progress.
My name is John. I'm new to Thumbtack, but I'm 22, and I've been playing electric bass for nine years. I've always loved giving lessons. When I first started playing, taking lessons really helped me to appreciate and learn about bass and music in general, and I'd like to help foster that in others who would like to start learning about music. My hours and rates are flexible depending on your situation, so just get in touch with me, and we'll take it from there!
I have participated in all aspects of performing and teaching music, along with producing some very prominent players as well as a college trumpet professor!!
30 years experience and a passion for all musical styles. Being able to deliver exactly what a student wants (on the spot) while also provide important insights geared towards teaching one "how to fish" (long term self-sufficiency) as opposed to only "receiving a fish" (short term gratification).
