Kevin arrived at the designated time on the nose. He was courteous yet unobtrusive. He asked for my preferences in terms of pressure, music, oil vs cream, scented or non-scented. I need massage for therapeutic purposes. I am prone to tight shoulders plus I have been playing a lot of tennis and my body was radiating pain. I was also fighting a stress headache. By the time he finished, I was literally in a different body. I had a deep tissue treatment and when it was too deep, he backed off, just enough. When I needed more pressure, he adjusted as well. I get massages regularly. This one competed with the best of them.

Jacquie has helped me make breakthroughs and release some issues that have lingered for years despite various modalities of therapy. It's also empowering work as she teaches me tools along the way. You'll need to be clear about what you want to heal though in order to experience the power of the work.

I have known and worked with David for over 10 years now. I cannot express in words the gratitude I feel for haveing David in my life. I have emotionally grown leaps and bounds because of the work I have done with him both through massage and therapy. The difference between working with David and so many others is how present and loving and non-judgemental he is. I highly recomend you treat yourself to a session. You will be so so glad you did!! From the booking process up until leaving the door, my experience is always impeccable and delightful. Jennifer my massage therapist, offers very professional service , and is always kind, sweet, & attentive. She's happy to focus on areas that might be troubling you on each visit. Her intuition proved true throughout the session. She specializes in deep tissue massage , also offers relaxing Swedish. At the end of the session I felt new and re-energized. Ive had massages done many times before(both therapeutic and relaxation) , and she is by far the best ! The treatment was thorough and significantly relieved the tightness in my back and legs. It I felt noticeably better afterward. I am absolutely comying back and highly recommend her to anyone. Looking forward to getting another session sometime soon ! For several years & especially after the birth of my first child I struggled with anxiety & depression. One day I came across the Katonah Healing Center & discovered the hypnotherapeutic services of Michael Rosenbaum. I wish I learned about his healing 20 years ago. He saved me!!! Sure fear & negative thinking cross my path here and there but I am now able to manage those encounters. Talk therapy may help some but it didn't help me. I needed to go deeper, & was able to with Michael Rosenbaum. Thank you Michael. Namaste.🙏

I started training with Stefan over 6 years ago! At that time my motivation was to improve my overall health, strength, and weight loss. After a few weeks of training, I fractured my ankles and could not bear any weight. My improved fitness level allowed my to use crutches without bearing any weight on my legs. After about 1 week (while still in castes) I returned to training. Stefan, in collaboration with my health care team, developed a modified program for me. This in part allowed me to heal and recover much faster. Mentally, it gave me something else to focus on rather than my injuries. My doctors recommended that I go to physical therapy, which I did. After a couple of therapy sessions I quickly realized I was not getting the individual 1:1 attention and results that I was achieving with Stefan. Physical therapy offices tend to be over crowded and have a limited amount of equipment. I continued intensive training with Stefan and quickly recovered with full range of motion and strength in my legs. I have worked with Stefan to improve my chronic back pain and to maintain mobility. As a result, I have a decrease in discomfort due to increased spine and core strength as well as flexibility. Over the years I have maintained a vigorous training program and enjoy every minute of it. Stefan is an experienced trainer, who can modify fitness programs to meet your ever changing needs and physical challenges to achieve the best results possible! Not to mention, "Discipline" is an awesome, fully equipped, private training facility. As a health care professional, I highly recommend Stefan and Discipline!

Great FUN Teacher and SOOO knowledgeable!! Tendinitis of the hamstring is not fun at all. Especially when it lasts 2 years. It limits your activities and weighs on you mentally like all physical ailments. After trying many rehabilitation therapies and exercises, I still had a lot of pain and limited range of motion in my leg. There are many great yoga teachers and trainers but some stand out above the rest. Alison is so knowledgeable in the world of yoga, but equally in rehabilitation and physical therapy. Her ability to diagnose, treat , and create specific exercises for an individuals case is top notch. Alison incorporates other exercises in addition to the practice of yoga as well as creating and teaching people to have a peaceful nurturing approach to exercise and fitness. Whatever you physical goals are, I highly recommend incorporating yoga and seeing Alison. For someone like myself who was badly injured and never did yoga before and doing it consistently within very little time I saw quick results and complete healing of injuries. Alison is the real deal, in addition to you other activities give Alison and yoga a try!!

I have known Andrew in many different aspects of his career. As coach of my son's lacrosse team, he displayed an unbelievable amount of enthusiasm and energy, with emphasis on fun and team building. All the players on the team were engaged and revered him. He also conducted training sessions at my club's junior tennis camp. He put together a conditioning program that was tennis specific and FUN. The campers had a blast with it! Again, he brought an enormous amount of energy to the program. . Andrew was also the personal trainer for my daughter, who was, at the time, a nationally competitive tennis player (who now competes at the collegiate level). His thorough knowledge and expertise was so helpful in pinpointing her physical weaknesses. She felt that his sessions increased her body strength and flexibility, and helped her become a stronger, better tennis player. As an added bonus, he also provided valuable nutritional information for her diet. I recently have been going to Andrew for a weekly massage to help with lower back pain and tightness.. Again, his expertise in assessing the problem and honing in on those areas has really helped loosen my back. I highly recommend Andrew for personal training and/or massage therapy. His passion for teaching and desire to promote general fitness, movement, strengthening and conditioning is infectious..

I am a Massage Therapist as well. I recently received my first massage from Matt. He has an amazing gentle touch but with the pressure needed for the muscles to release. He addressed all the issues we discussed prior to the session. I couldn't leave without buying a holiday package of 5 sessions for an amazing deal!! Highly recommend Matt!

Alex is a great massage therapist - highly experienced and knowledgeable. He has been my exclusive therapist for over ten years and has helped me a great deal with my work-related tendinitis as well as other issues such as pinched nerves and pulled muscles. I work on a keyboard all day, and if it weren't for regular massage therapy by Alex I would probably have had to seek another profession. Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

  • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
  • Nutritional medicine
  • Botanical medicine
  • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
  • Hygiene
  • Counseling
  • Minor surgery
  • Homeopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Intravenous and injection therapy
  • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

  • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
    • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
  • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
    • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
    • Do I need a referral?
    • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
    • What will the co-pay be?
    • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
  • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
