Craftsman / Farmhouse,
It was such a pleasure to work with Laurene. She has a keen eye for detail and color and an exceptionally pleasant way about her. She has original ideas and my house is looking wonderful utilizing her suggestions! I would highly recommend working with Eclectic Design!Jan 24, 2017VerifiedEclectic Design Inc.'s reply
Hello, Judy. Thank you for such a wonderful review! I hope all is going well with your project. Laurene
She is a very good designer and I was excited about the plans she had for my home. This is the reason I gave her an average rating instead of poor. Her customer service skills are very poor. I had my home painted in the colors she recommended and now I can only get her to communicate with me via email after leaving more than one message. The emails revolve around what would be the best use of her time instead of what would be best for me as a paying client. My project is clearly not anywhere on her priority list. She knew the size of the job before starting. If it was too small or she was too busy, I would have preferred she just tell me that upfront. I will be looking for another designer that has a little respect for my time and can work with me enough to get the job done.Feb 7, 2016VerifiedEclectic Design Inc.'s reply
Communication is a critical part to any design job, large or small, and is the responsibility of both the client and designer for a smooth project. The client was making changes to the original design so I asked appropriate questions to gain clarity on what she wanted when we began the ordering process. Some of her responses to my e-mails were vague and/or went unanswered. Because she had specific requirements about lighting, and knowing that she was looking on line for project items anyway, I asked if she could locate what would work for her, being mindful of a tight budget thus not wanting to spend billable time unnecessarily. I work with clients on both smaller and larger projects, about half of my work comes from repeat clients throughout my fourteen years in this business. Another quarter of my business comes from referrals. Consistent comments are not only about my excellent customer service skills, but also communications skills with my clients, contractors and suppliers. I take great pride in my work and in making my clients happy and have a reputation for doing so.
Laurene McGarry-Bissell, principal of Eclectic Design Inc., helped me change the personality of my home from cool and monochrome to warm and colorful. She has an intuitive sense of what a home owner or business owner would feel comfortable with in terms of layout, color, artwork, furniture, and window coverings. With Laurene's help, I was able to bring out parts of my design "personality" that I had been too reserved to express. Laurene has a wide network of resources for materials and furnishings, which made the selection process fun and easy for me. She is a pleasure to work with, always professional, and follows through on everything she promises. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Eclectic Design Inc. to my friends--in fact, I have done so many times.Feb 19, 2016
My experience thus far has been great. My bedroom and bathrooms came out exactly how I dreamed they would. I will continue working with Larene.Feb 2, 2017Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Based on project scope and client need.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I take courses and read professional resources to stay up on trends. I also teach a course, Decorating Made Simple. The course comprises four classes, two-hours each class over a four-week stretch. It covers color and how to choose what works best for you, furniture and accessory arranging, lighting and bringing the outside in.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?My parents built spec homes when I was growing up. I was always around swatches and samples, contractors, blue prints, etc. I loved the process of seeing something being built from the ground up. I also enjoyed seeing how the same furnishings and accessories were used in each unique house, traditional and contemporary in design.
