Owner Dave contacted me almost immediately with a quote to fix a leaky roof/chimney area. He did the work the same day, and thankfully all was well because it rained again and the leak was fixed! Very professional and will definitely hire again!

I love, love, love, my landscaping by Plant Design Therapy. I contacted MyLan at Plant Design Therapy to give some curb appeal to my very old house that has been in my family for more than 60 years. The parameters I gave her included giving me a cottage-style garden which included saving and relocating my grandmother's peony's, saving and including in her design the serendipitous violets that carpeted the area, relocating the tiger lilies to a patio area, and incorporating red roses, a favorite flower of my grandmother, into her design. In addition to that, I added a vegetable garden in the back with raised beds and a rustic cedar picket fence with a swing gate, and copper toppings on the the fence post, an elegant touch suggested by MyLan, that I just love. The work exceeded my expectations and I am the envy of the neighborhood. I must also give kudos the the crew that worked on my project. They were efficient, hardworking, thoughtful, conscientious and courteous. I plan to use MyLan and Plant Design Therapy for future projects. It was a pleasure to work with MyLan and I look forward to future collaborations.

The owner of the home they removed the table from was equally impressed also. They answered any and all questions throughly. It was a pleasure have disassemble & reassemble my. I plan on re hiring them in near future to change the felt covering. I would highly recommend SafeConn for any & all pool table jobs.

What an amazing company and group of installers! Jose (the owner) understood every detail of our project request, recommend the appropriate materials and layout. Once the job kicked off, my wife and I experienced a smooth process with a knowledgeable and friendly crew. The project finished two weeks ahead of schedule, the fence came out perfect, the yard was left spotless and the price point was great as well. We had three other bids and Starline beat all of them by a decent amount. Our fence also came with a 20 year warranty on materials and 2 year warranty on installation. Starline stands behind their work. We will be having Jose and the Starline crew back for a future project. You can’t go wrong with these guys! Thanks so much to Jose and the team at Starline Fence!

Nathan and crew did a great job taking down 10 trees in our backyard. They were able to take apart and reassemble our fence in order to get back there and the fence was no worse for the wear. Initially it was scoped as a 2-day job, but they were able to complete in 1. Very happy with the job they did and would recommend to anyone. In terms of price, Nathan worked with us to offer a competitive quote. That in conjunction with my gut feeling that he was a good guy, led us to choose CT Green.

We had a great experience with Pilgrim Painters. Dan responded right away to our inquiry about painting our picket fence, and he was easy to work with. They completed the job in a very rapid time frame for a reasonable price. It looks great! We would definitely call them for our next home improvement needs.

My father became ill and unable to take care of the pool. I contacted Sean to do the work. I scheduled an appointment and forgot to notify my parents. Sean was very accommodating. He waited for my parents to get ready and did the job right then too. My mother was pleased which is the most important part. I will hire him again to help with the pool.

I couldn't be happier with the new fence Medy and his team installed at my home; it fence looks great and is a huge improvement to the property. Beyond the great results, I want to thank Medy for going above and beyond my expectations! Medy communicated well, was quick to answer my questions, and kept me up-to-date with important logistics like the dumpster and material delivery; Medy even came out to our house the day the supplies were expected to be delivered to help us shovel out the driveway (and sidewalk, which he didn't have to do!) since we had a big snowstorm the night before. Medy did all of this for a very fair price and finished the work right on time. I highly recommend hiring Medy, I think you'll be very glad you did.

All County Landscape installed pavers at my home last spring. I was initially concerned because our yard has alot of clay which retains water. There was an actual pond of water where we had removed an in-ground pool, and that was where we wanted the patio. Rich worked with us, and assured us that the water would not be a problem. He put extra rock (I forget the proper term) under the pavers, sloped the patio so the water didn't just drain into a big puddle in the yard, and moved the rain gutter drain on the house so it would drain to the side yard, away from the patio. After a rough winter, thawing snow, and lots of rain, the yard is pretty wet, but the patio looks like the day it was put in. Rich is very professional, artistic, and considerate. If I need paver work in the future, he will be my first call!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
