First of all HASSLE FREE MOVERS were GREAT!!!! ALL of my friends have used them and they came highly recommended.Mark gave me an hourly rate and I was happy with that. he then explained he wanted to come by and see the scope of my move.I know from the rest of my friends he would come by and maybe give a FLAT RATE. He did a walk through and seen what I needed as far as boxes because I wanted some wardrobe boxes to hang clothes in. They were as great as I thought and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is moving. They were so easy to deal with, they came out and after a walk through we sat down set a date and I gave a deposit to secure my day. They really took care of my belongings by wrapping up my wood pieces of furniture..The movers even disassembled a few beds for me and put them together at the new place. (HASSLE FREE MOVERS put together the beds better than the people who delivered them.) I had a up- wright piano that Mark and Dave wrapped up really nice and delivered the piano and the rest of my belongings. after completion of the move the movers did a walk through. We ended up having the movers move some things that I really was not sure of where I was going to put them. They were a wonderful bunch. I would highly recommend them to anyone moving.

Overall experience with the movers was good. For a 1 BR stuff, moving took about 2.5 hours even though I was given estimate of 3 hours. When I was reserving the movers, I had categorically asked if I'd be charged anything on top of per hour rate and I was told everything would be included in that. However, after the move I was told there is extra travel cost. So I paid that anyway as they had finished 30 mins early. The guys were clean and friendly.

Sean and Rob made what could have been a stressful experience one that was accomplished quickly and professionally . My things were handled respectfully with care. Efficient, polite and reasonable. Sean did not charge by number of items etc. it was a flat rate and he stuck to it. I recommend this moving service to anyone in the area needing to move whether a big move or a smaller one.

Fast, extremely efficient, and friendly yet professional movers, and Eric charged a very reasonable rate. They finished on time, honored their quote, and did it all with minimal damage, while also dropping off washer/dryer, a/c units and a bed at a storage unit, and taking a giant, heavy used fold-out couch off my hands. Will definitely be looking to use these guys again...

Really nice , hardworking, respectable guys. Handled a complicate three way estate move with no drama, no damages. Brought a lift gate truck which was a plus. Job took a little longer than expected but this is not a big surprise. I found the rate more than reasonable.

Brian and his team saved us on moving day. They quoted us a ridiculously good hourly rate for three men, and when they arrived they got straight to work, carefully wrapping our furniture and packing it so neatly and snug that they were able to fit our two bedroom condo into one 20-ft truck without a scratch or a single dropped item. They're also just awesome guys - professional and a lot of fun. We can't wait to spread the word to our friends: incredible value and incredible experience. THANK YOU, PHOENIX!!

I've used The Experienced Movers twice, first for a residential move three and one-half years ago, then to move my office about 6 months ago. Owner Aswad is a pleasure to work with--reliable, reliable, reliable. Different moving crews for each of the moves. The guys who did my house move were great. The guys who did the office move were less great, but the apparent chief of the crew more than made up for the not so energetic attitude of his helpers. The one problem with the house move--a tough-to-put-together bed not exactly right--Aswad fixed quickly and courteously, even though he had to make a trip to a store to get a part. I would absolutely use The Experienced Movers again and recommend them highly.

Harper and Son's Moving came out last minute when a company I hired on here did not show. I was in panic mode and they really calmed me down and took care of everything. The final price came in under quote and they truly saved me. The owner himself came to help with the job and each of the guys were so polite and didn't complain at all! Thank you guys for saving the day!

My family and i are moving and have a house hold of things through out the years of living there, and we had purchased a home on the outskirts of Connecticut closer towards Massachusetts and our vehicle's couldn't handle the load nor did we wanna make extra trips so we searched around from company to company and their rates we're pretty expensive and reviews were average so we kept searching and that's when we found MOVIMG BROTHER'S!! And I'll tell you now I had my doubts but they proved me wrong. Hard working, reliable, a moving company you can trust. My husband was scared because we have a 80inch sharp quattron and was nervous it would get damaged but nope they treated it as if it was of their own. They are a fantastic company and legendary customer service will be provided. Take it from someone who rather save the extra money. I extremely recommend this company to anyone of any size. Couple of months my son will be attending on campus and guess who were going with!!!My family and i are moving and have a house hold of things through out the years of living there, and we had purchased a home on the outskirts of Connecticut closer towards Massachusetts and our vehicle's couldn't handle the load nor did we wanna make extra trips so we searched around from company to company and their rates we're pretty expensive and reviews were average so we kept searching and that's when we found MOVIMG BROTHER'S!! They are great! I really appreciated the fact that Addison followed up on the schedule and my items very closely so that the moving would go smoothly (unlike big moving companies that are unresponsive). The price is very reasonable, and my entire moving took only about 40 minutes (I had 15 boxes and a few small furniture pieces). I will definitely work with them again.

Jason, the owner, was very responsive. Immediately texted me back to let me know he received my message and because it was 11pm advised he would call the next day to discuss. Jason and team showed up on time and were professional and super friendly. Hourly rate was worth it as they didn’t drag out the process to make more money and placed all the furniture where I wanted it. I highly recommend this company and will use them for future needs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
