Walter is only "One Call Away". He is very friendly and helpful! He helped with our bathroom mirror hanging and kitchen countertop refreshment. He was even willing to come multiple times to get the job done and made adjustments to meet our expectations. We saved his contact and will def keep him in mind when we have new needs!

Marty has completed several projects for us in the past six years. Every one was expertly completed, on time, according to specifications. Marty's prices are very reasonable, his estimates accurate, and his workmanship excellent. He is exceptionally versatile. He can tackle almost anything, from carpentry to masonry, floor laying to plumbing, electrical to painting and pressure washing. Projects completed for us include the conversation of two bedrooms into a studio with kitchen, with a new vinyl floor and the addition of an outside/entry door; replace an existing single basin vanity with a two basin vanity, and new vinyl floor; remodeling our laundry room; pressure washing and painting the house exterior. Marty is an excellent, reliable and affordable all-rounder with a pleasant personality. We will request his services for any future project we might have. We recommend him highly. He is a jewel!

First home, first major project (totaled kitchen & total bath remodel) how exciting and scary is that! Hired Brian and Harry to do the work, not because they were the cheaper quote (they weren't), but because they had the experience, integrity and work ethic that I hold dear. They responded to my emails, texts, and photos when i was tearing down my kitchen wall and ceiling. Came to my home to see what these unknown factors I was discovering (think headaches.) Brought in their Electrician and Plumber to take a look, even before they were hired. Brian came to a Condo Assoc meeting to answer questions and reassure my neighbors of the upcoming remodel. This was not an easy remodel (are they ever?), but we stopped, consulted, evaluated the options and moved forward with each issue and there were a number of them. Many things I was sure of what I wanted, but there were a number of items i was unsure of. I felt comfortable consulting with B & H on choices I had to make, tapping into their experience/history with other projects. Very happy with my new kitchen and bath. Would hire them again and again.

Rome was exceptionally reasonable with his pricing compared to other quotes we received, and he started at our soonest convenience. His talented crew were a pleasure to have in our home as they tackled several projects we were working on. We had Rome renovate our kitchen, wallpaper and paint our dining room, paint and renovate cabinets in our billiard room, and paint several other rooms in our home, they replaced several wood planks on our pergola and on the deck and steps that were unsafe and his wood worker went above and beyond with his amazing skills to go the extra mile with several things on the deck that needed changing or that that needed a face lift. They power washed our home and made it look new and replaced several odds and ends that had just been needing a new look. He was always willing to work around our busy schedules and eager to please. He is a very kind, pleasant presence which we appreciated as we were working with him and his crew for several weeks. They were always on time and clear about what they were doing and what they needed in order for us to prepare for different projects. We had our kitchen counters removed and a family member was going to be inheriting them, and he was even kind enough to take his time and his crews time to help transport them to the new owners vehicle which was greatly appreciated and much needed. I would go on and on about how Rome and his crew were a pleasure to work with but i dont want to fail to mention what a wonderful person he actually is and how he truly cares if you are happy with the outcome of things and the progress as well. Rome is a one of a kind find when it comes to anything having to do with your home and he will respect your home and things in it more then i have ever witnessed with any other company. He is a great man of his word and was a great find on this sight!!! We will always call Rome in the furure for anything relating to home improvement. If youre lucky enough to find him youre lucky enough!! Hopefully Rome gets to see this review so he knows how very thankful we are that we found him and were blessed enough to have him make our home everything we wanted and more!! Rome and his professional, caring crew are one of a kind, skilled and professional!!!!

Brian (the owner) contacted me and B & G came over at a moment's notice on a Sunday to fix my sink. Whoever had installed the under mount sink in my kitchen hadn't done a great job, and it had fallen out of the counter. B & G knocked the job out in less than an hour and fortified that sink. The cost was very reasonable. That sink isn't going anywhere now. Thanks guys!

After owning our home for over 40 years we were finally ready to remodel the original 1956 master bathroom. We interviewed 4 other contractors before meeting with "For-U-Builders" who seemed to share our vision for transforming our obsolete bathroom into a masterpiece of timeless design combined with quality craftsmanship. Each member of their team, from the owner to the sub-contractors approached the job with professionalism and enthusiasm, along with the in-house coordinator who communicated almost daily with ordering & scheduling details, assuring that the project was well orchestrated from start to finish. We couldn't be happier with the results and feel fortunate to have had this firm complete our dream bathroom on time and at a reasonable (middle of the range) cost. We will surely be using them again for our future projects.

The guys did an amazing job in my kitchen and my basement. I originally wanted just new countertops and new floors in my basement, but as the job progressed I knew I needed to take advantage of the fact that I had amazing craftsmen working in my home. They were so responsive and open with their material and labor costs I truly couldn’t resist asking them to do more jobs for me. I’m not much of a person who leaves reviews, but since they did such an amazing job I feel as though it’s important for anyone looking for a new kitchen anywhere in Nassau and and Suffolk County New York that Dimension Restoration and Construction is by far their best and most competitively priced option. I did get other quotes which the office girl Ishita suggested I do and she was right to do so. The prices I received from allure and a bunch of other kitchen and bath companies was DOUBLE what Dimension Restoration and Construction charged me. I have to say this has been hands down the easiest remodel I have ever experienced in my history of owning my home. Thank you Dimension!

We just hired Custom Woodwork ETC to create additional kitchen cabinets for our existing 1950s kitchen. He is going to match the cabinet style and allow my grandmother's kitchen to grow in size but keep the original feel. We are so excited we found Bruce Ring on Thumbtack to do the work!

Working with Bharti is like exploring your own sense of aestheticism. She is not only the most comfortable interior designer to work with, but a beautiful person at heart to know. She gives out wonderful ideas to make your house appealing to all your senses including your soul. When I moved into my new house, it was overwhelming for me to initiate the process of setting it up. Bharti was my soul saver who came with excellent ideas and helped me fill up my house with class and comfort. Working with her was a joyful journey as her patience and calmness helped my cluttered thoughts come out seamless. I highly recommend working with her, she is the best designer.

I hired Mike to renovate our family room to give it an updated look. Work included taking down old dark paneling, new sheet-rock, taping, painting, new trim around the base of the room and around the windows, installing 3 new windows and a new slider door. Mike was timely and consistent from beginning to end, from phone calls and emails to showing up when he said he would be there. His work was priced fairly and his attention to detail is something I admire. I can't stress enough how clean he kept the room while working. Always using drop cloths and vacuuming everyday before he left. I get tons of compliments of our new updated room and I would highly recommend Goodman Building Company! I have already talked to Mike about the next few projects, updating my kitchen and bathroom in a few months!

Jeff remodeled two bathrooms for me and the results are outstanding. I couldn't be happier with the results. He was meticulous in keeping things clean while he worked and he was always there when he said he would be. I liked the experience so much I'm having him do my kitchen as well.

Steve built us a beautiful tray ceiling in our kitchen and also installed our backsplash. He was on time everyday and communicated with me the whole project to keep me in the loop. I am thrilled with the work and will defiantly be recommending him to anyone who needs work done. Plan to use again.

I would gladly recommend Jon's work! Bel Air remodeled my kitchen and master bath, and the work is gorgeous. I couldn't be happier. Bel Air was also the most reasonably priced contractor I found after searching and interviewing several and taking many quotes. The most important piece to me is that Jon warrantees his work and replaced a faulty light switch for free when I called. That's peace of mind.

Hello, Over the years, I have used Chris a number of times and have yet to be disappointed . The largest jobs were a total kitchen and master bath remodel. They came out beautiful and many people have commented on the kitchen especially. Chris has done other work for us as well including the total gutting and remodel of a screened in porch, including windows where the screens were. Also repair work to our double level deck. I have found him professional, flexible and easy to work with. His prices are very fair completion date and budget have never been an issue for us. RM - Simsbury Ct.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
