We needed to move quickly from our very large Victorian home to a small apartment and an awkward storage space as our cash buyer wanted to close fast. Lindsay secured the date and made us feel confident that the move would happen seamlessly. Three very competent and confident young men arrived on time with everything needed to wrap our furniture and finish packing us out as needed. They handled 2 enormous antique pieces without batting an eye. My fear was hitting walls or light fixtures but the pieces were put on the truck as if it were effortless. The men were polite and clean, and they never stopped the entire 12 hours they were with us. I will refer everyone to All Points and they will be our first call when we leave our temporary digs. I havehave moved 27 times and this was by far the most comfortable I ever felt. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Kudos All Point Movers!

Mario was very accommodating with some scheduling issues and very communicative. When he showed up to mow our property, it was raining and we suggested we could wait another week, but Mario mowed our lawn and completed the work in the rain and did a trim near job. He is professional and we reviewed other jobs around our property and he offered advice and a range of options to suit our budget. We will definitely be using his services in the future and are looking forward to it.

I contacted Jay on Saturday morning for an urgent move out cleaning. He was kind enough to accommodate my request and came to our apartment on Sunday at 8am to get the job done. He was really nice on the phone, very flexible, and did a great job cleaning our house, and for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend Jayclass for cleaning services.

Graziella and her partner were amazing. Grazi was extremely responsive (she responded to my 9 pm request to have her come at 8 am the very next morning). I was moving out of my apartment that day and hadn't even finished packing, and they worked well even around all of my mess. The apartment was so obviously spotless that my landlord spent less than three minutes looking over it, and the new tenant said it was the cleanest apartment he'd ever moved into. On top of that, her prices are extremely reasonable. Once I get settled into school I'd like to schedule her for recurring cleaning, and I will most definitely be recommending her to everyone I know.

Francisco was excellent. He arrived on time with his crew and they all were professional and knowledgeable on how to move and protect our furniture for storage. They worked continuously in 95 degree heat, taking no breaks and finished under scheduled time. I was amazed how efficient and hard working they were and so reasonably priced. I would definitely hire them again!

Addison and his partner helped with moving my dorm furniture to storage for the summer. They were about 45 minutes early (better early than late!) but did not call me the day before to confirm, even though he mentioned he would. It would be best if they could try to call the day before just to confirm. They were very fast with moving everything, polite and friendly, and patient in waiting for me to do paperwork at the facility. The quality of the work was good but sometimes items would fall off the carts and could get dirty on the ground. I appreciate that they accepted payment only after the job was done.

Brian and his team are nothing short of a godsend - I cannot recommend them highly enough! My husband and I had a very large move, from West Hartford to northern Mass, and we required both packing AND unpacking services - and Brian made sure that we were being taken care of every step of the way. His guys packed our belongings with incredible care, and unpacked things beautifully. Nothing was broken, and my husband, cat, and I were able to live comfortably in our new home on the day OF the move - our kitchen was unpacked and ready, as were our closets and other necessities! Brian's team were courteous and professional, but still fun to be around and we thoroughly enjoyed working with them. We are already planning our next move when we buy a home next year, and you can bet that Brian will be our very first phone call!!! If you hire Phoenix Movers you will have an easy and efficient move!

Awesome service, these guys really hustled and did an excellent job of loading heavier items into POD for long distance move. They hauled some heavy junk items to the end of long drive too. We plan on hiring them again when we completely move out of our home.

My husband and I just moved and I started getting sick right as we were packing. We realized we were going to have to go easy where we could, which meant hiring someone to clean after we had moved out our furniture instead of doing it ourselves. Jim Di'Dio worked with me on every particular: price, space, areas needing special attention or no attention and time. On top of that he was professional and so friendly and outgoing. I 100% recommend their services, you will be well cared for.

I am using TEMS for a move to DC which involves three months of local storage. The first leg of this move was completed today, namely packing my furniture and putting it in a storage unit in New Haven. Aswad is very easy to get a hold of and quickly got me an estimate. Aswad did not do the move himself, but Abdul and his helper were great - professional, careful, capable, friendly. My building's loading dock area was disgusting and they made sure to clean it up so my boxes and furniture wouldn't get dirtied. They packed everything in protective paper, tape, and shrink wrap. The truck was loaded safely for the trip. It took a bit longer than I expected, most of which was not their fault (my building is complicated and I asked them to go to an additional location for a dresser), although a third person would have sped things up considerably. Overall, I'm very impressed with TEMS and glad that I found them. I will update this in three months when my stored belongings are delivered to DC, but assuming things go as well then as they did today (and that the final cost is in line with the original estimate), the five-star rating will remain. Highly recommended!

I just relocated to Connecticut and after a few long weeks of packing and preparing our home for sale I was completely exhausted when I walked into our new home. Our new home was in move in condition but it needed a deep cleaning that required a lot of energy I didnt have. I contacted Simplistic Solutions and owner Kate Mitchell was all over it. The ladies assigned to the task were on time and waisted no time making my home look, feel, and smell amazing. Their energy and thoroughness throughout the home was evident while there and after leaving so much so that I have scheduled and am looking forward the the next cleaning.

Emanuel and his team are very professional and efficient movers. My move from NJ to CT went on very smoothly; they packed up my stuff and loaded them within an hour. I was impressed as I expected it to have taken longer. They are also very helpful, offering assistance in any shape or form. They took extra time to ensure that packing was done correctly, wrapping glassware in paper, carefully wrapping furniture in blankets etc. Overall, my move became less stressful thanks to Emanuel and his team. I will highly recommend them to friends and people who are in the process of moving. Alex

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
