I was very dissatisfied with the service I received from this individual. I contacted him in November, 2018 to do a project for me and I just picked up the untouched project today July,2019. Any communication was initiated by me and I feel I was being strung a long by the status he was providing. I do not recommend.Jul 14, 2019VerifiedCustom Woodwork ETC's reply
I made many trips and phone calls to different wood shops around and could not find anyone that could plane the angle cut tree round. The peice was too small. Spoke to other cabinet makers and they said they wouldn't even try, because of the sentimental value. Once again I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get it done. You said to me on the phone that it was alright. I guess you changed your mind?
We found Bruce on Thumbtack and this was the first time we took a quote from someone on this app. Our first impressions were great! For those who have had work done before, getting a contractor to show up on time when they say they will be there is half the battle sometimes. Bruce showed up when he said he would be there with what he needed to quote the job (again I cannot tell you how many times contractors will show up with nothing). Very professional and left a good first impression. We eventually hired him for the job of designing and building built ins around our fireplace. He based his designs of some ideas I found online, but his architectural skills of aesthetically designing the project to fit into our space were excellent and exactly what we wanted from him! The end result (which turned into a phase 2 project to again design and build an aesthetic beam and pillars separating our open floor plan and flow into the built ins he just made) was literally perfect. Matched our taste, design of the house and the craftsmen ship was some of the best I have seen. I don't like to talk cost because everyone has their own opinion on what is considered expensive however what I can say is he had 3 change orders on the whole project (one of which was a good size relatively speaking to the built in project) and he was clearly very fair and right in line with my expectations. This speaks volumes on the type of person and businessman he is. A++ contractor and will 100% be using him again in the future!Jul 20, 2017Verified
When you want it done right the first time, Bruce and his team at Custom Woodwork are the best choice. I had 2 properties that needed minor to extensive work. Bruce accomplished it all and I have compliments from friends, neighbors and the local building inspector on his superb work. Bruce's work ethic is apparent from the first time you meet him. He has been in the business a long time and is able to anticipate your questions. He makes excellent suggestions for cost savings that do not compromise the integrity of his work. One project required a zoning hearing. Bruce drew up plans that had the town hall buzzing with the professionalism of his work. As a veteran, Bruce honed his skills in the service and brings that devotion to every part of his work. He joined me at the zoning meeting and eloquently answered all questions. It was a relief for me to have him there! I strongly recommend that Custom Woodwork be your choice for any small or large project that you want done right. The first time.Mar 4, 2015Verified
I do not even know where to start. If Bruce lived in a different time he would have been a Renaissance man. He possesses a masterful blend of artistry and intellect. The first project he did for us was to redo a simple laundry room. This entailed making templates and installing granite for a counter with a sink and a making a folding table/counter. He had to repair some sheet rock and repaint the room. The results were impressive. The second job he did was design and build a workbench for my art studio. His architectural renderings were impressive. He measured the length of my arms to insure I was able to reach the peg board behind the work bench. He thought to install a length of electrical outlets beneath the lip of the bench. The side drawers are easily opened and closed and the paper trays are large enough to hold my watercolor paper. He is extremely meticulous and his work shows this. He installed glass doors in the basement studio to allow more light to enter the area. When this wasn't sufficient, he cut through the concrete and installed a window (with molding and a sill). His masterpiece was the deck he built for us. With Bruce's skill and our artistic input he produced a showpiece deck. The three tiered deck allows for minimal visual obstruction of the woods below. He installed tiny lights on the stairs to make them safer in the evening. He thought of these. He made a portion of the deck curved to provide harmony with the landscaping. Again, his renderings were precise and impressive. He laid everything out carefully and was always thinking ahead. Our deck is magnificent. He handled all the paperwork for the permits as well. On a smaller scale Bruce hung paintings, our TV, glass doors leading to a bonus room, fixed all our leaky faucets and provided names when we needed a generator and a water softening system installed. Bruce is one of a kind in that he is masterful in so many areas and knows when to get a consult. He is prompt and ready to work hard. He put in very long hours, cleaned up and just did amazing work. I still look forward to having him finish an upstairs loft, a bathroom in our studio and build a space for a china hutch. I feel so fortunate that we found Bruce and would give him the highest of recommendations. He really is a Master of many things! He is also very easy to talk to and to work with.May 27, 2015VerifiedCustom Woodwork ETC's reply
Kathy, I don't know how to thank you enough for this wonderful review! Working with You and Arthur over the past months has been one of the best experiences of my life. I'm looking forward to our continued relationship and interesting projects. Thanks again, Bruce
Came in to give me a price quote, he was $225 more then the nearest competitor I asked him further questions about pricing he told me to call the plumber! He was installing plumbing in the kitchen the entire base cabinet and sink! Duh I’m supposed to ask you questions!! It’s true you can’t teach and old dog new tricks! Sucks to have that attitude! Very rude!Apr 29, 2019VerifiedCustom Woodwork ETC's reply
I'm sorry that you are upset. All I said was if you don't want the cabinets or counter top installed, I can't just do the plumbing by itself. I'm not a plumber.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? Each estimate is custom tailored to the specific project using the latest cost analysis.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Set up an in person meeting at their convenience, then meet and discuss the project. Then get back to them with a detailed estimate and a cost breakdown.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Yes, I attend seminars that are offered by some of the large tool and machinery companies in the area. There are many instructional programs on the internet that I also take part in. I did two years of technical school training in many types of carpentry work and specialized training in cabinet making and laminate counter tops.
