"I am a Massage Therapist as well. I recently received my first massage from Matt. He has an amazing gentle touch but with the pressure needed for the muscles to release. He addressed all the issues we discussed prior to the session. I couldn't leave without buying a holiday package of 5 sessions for an amazing deal!! Highly recommend Matt!"

"Jennifer is truly one of a kind. She is devoted to her craft and takes great satisfaction in providing her client's with a most enjoyable massage experience. Her studio is a cozy oasis of carefully tailored light and scent with a backdrop of relaxing meditative music. She possess a meticulous attention to detail and has a uncanny knack for knowing just how much pressure to apply to different parts of the body. She is petite in stature but is very strong. She is very professionaI yet has a gentle and welcoming demeanor. I would never think of missing my weekly 90 minute session. I never thought of asking a masseuse for longer than an hour session, but I just never want to leave. She is that good! I rarely can find the time nor willingness to write reviews but wanted to share my experience for someone so deserving of high praise."

"I am a LMT that used to work with Matt. While I've never had a full massage from him, one day I came to work with a terrible headache, and he worked on my neck and scalp for about 10 minutes and magically my headache disappeared!! The few minutes he spent helping a fellow coworker were amazing, so I'm certain that the rest of his massage is equally fantastic! Also, just talking with him about techniques and pathologies between our clients, I know he's extremely knowledgeable and his clients were always glowing when they left him."

"I've trained with Rob for many years. He's an outstanding trainer and a compassionate person. He's trained me when I was training for a triathlon, and during my recovery from major operations. In this sense I can speak to his skills for a client at different levels. I would recommend Rob for the elite athlete, or the person struggling to regain their strength, and everyone in the middle. He listens to his clients and designs smart and innovative workouts that will meet their individual goals. He is also very positive and encouraging, which has helped me when I've had to create new fitness goals for myself. He's fantastic!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
