From start to finish Chef Michel was professional, full-service and charming. It was an amazing experience and beautifully crafted. Our agency enjoyed a 2-hour Valentine themed chocolate fountain complete with fruit, salty snacks and pastries. He even brought rose petals for the table. We cannot wait to have him cater our next party!

The cooking class we asked Mitchell Goran to conduct was a birthday gift to our 10-year old granddaughter, Katherine. "Mitch"is clearly an experienced and competent chef. He knows what he is doing and does it well, answering any questions asked along the way. Ahead of time he asked the right questions about the planned cooking class, checked to verify the supplies that we already had and carefully purchased the others he needed. As the class progressed it became evident that Mitch is not only a fine chef; he is a very good teacher. He was patient and careful teaching Katherine basic skills: how to handle a knife and how to separate the white from the yolk of an egg. He used words to describe the cooking process that she could easily understand. He helped Katherine write down each step in the preparation so that she had a record in her own words. He gave Katherine ample time to practice her newly found skills, even to the point of extending his time with her beyond the contracted time. The smiles, the occasional laughter, and the good meal at the end were clear testimony of a class well conceived and well executed.

It's very rare to find a cooking teacher as patient, as smart, and as fun as Rosa Ross. We held a Peking Duck class at our home and enjoyed the experience immensely. Rosa took the time to explain both what to do and the underlying principles of why we were doing it -- something rare among teachers today. Our class had people of varied levels and we all were able to learn and participate. From basic knife skills to crafting the perfect dumpling to cleaning and curing the duck to some amazing cooking techniques and shortcuts, Rosa was there to help us along the way. And much laughter and delicious food ensued.

To the dining community, Joan Dahl-Lussier was the owner and proprietor of the her own restaurant for more than a decade, with many years of experience in organic, fresh culinary artistry! She insists on only fresh, organic and local ingredients, using fresh grown herbs and spices to season her mouth-watering entrees. Her homemade baked goods are unparalleled, bringing the best of sweet and healthy to the breakfast pastry and bread choices. However, her crowning achievement in my opinion is her ability to create a new and fresh menu of specials every week. She is not afraid to try new things in the test kitchen and work the recipe until it is just perfect, blending ingredients that the average cook would never entertain combining. These mouthwatering dishes are an exciting surprise and never disappointing! Joan is an expert organic culinary genius and gets FIVE stars from me!!

Sara worked with me at Lincoln College of New England in Southington CT for 4 years. Sara is an expert in etiquette, protocol, fine dining service, beverage service, excellent caterer, and always dresses professionally for work. The quality of Sara's work was always elegant and to perfection. Sara has certainly taught me how to manage a catering business with class and the finer points of customer service.

      About

I am certified by the Kushi Institute in Macrobiotic Cooking. I have been practicing a macrobiotic lifestyle for 30 years and lived and worked at the Kushi Institute for three years in the registration department. I raised two grown children with the macrobiotic diet and lifestyle, and they are happy and off living their lives now. I am dedicated, compassionate, patient and kind. I have also been a yoga instructor since 1997. I have taught macrobiotic and ayurvedic cooking classes at the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City, in the tristate area as well as San Francisco. I have helped many people change their lives and health for the better by just showing them the way. What we put into our bodies creates the sea of life or our bloodstream. If this pulsating stream is acidic, clogged and unclean, then viruses and germs can harbor and grow and create life-threatening illnesses. With a macrobiotic diet, you will clean your body in a safe and gentle way without medications if you so chose or with moderated medicine from your doctor. The food can become delicious to you as you start to appreciate it and most importantly, feel better! This is a splendid opportunity to learn from a teacher who lives it every day. I am very supportive and have a wealth of resources of the best macrobiotic teachers in the world. I would be happy to talk to you about any health concerns and give you my idea of a plan for you of healthy eating and healing. Please call or text anytime. Thank you!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
