Great experience working with Sara. It is super convenient to talk via Skype since I often travel around. She is usually very flexible with schedule changes and can accommodate you other times during the week if need be. The lessons were very practical and taught me day to day things I need to know. I look forward to continuing my lessons with her with no end in site!
Although I have only had one lesson so far with Chelsea, I automatically knew that I am going to learn a great deal from her. She knows what she is doing, and is very knowledgeable. Just from my first lesson with her, I found out a lot about my voice. She has already provided me with a lot of insight. The one thing I was looking for in a vocal coach is honesty and commitment, which Chelsea is both of. She is very optimistic and makes you feel completely comfortable right away. You can really tell she loves what she does, I am looking forward to continuing lessons!
David has been great to work with. I came across him and a few other teachers on the internet and after meetings a few, I decided to hire him for my seven year old son who has been taking piano lessons for two years and still does parallel to guitar. In fact, I was so impressed by David that I decided to take guitar lessons myself. I had not taken any music classes at all in the past, but thanks to David's teaching abilities, professionalism and patience, I have made nice progress and am enjoying learning how to play the guitar. My son is also enjoying the lessons. I work in a demanding, fast-paced environment and do not have much time to practice as much as I should, but David is making the learning a real pleasure and I plan on taking lessons for years to come. David is an excellent teacher with a tremendous knowledge of music and very capable of customizing his approach based on the student's skill level. I highly recommend him.
It's great! I've taken 4-5 lessons so far and think it's such a fun experience! Would definitely recommend to a friend.
My experience with Barbara has been awesome! I have been taking voice lessons since February. Since working with her i have gained so much more confidence. She has taught me several breathing techniques that have helped me to expand my vocal range. --
Whitney was amazing! She was very kind and encouraging the whole time even though I was a little nervous about doing everything right. She drove to me and basically gave me a private lesson at a great value! Everyone should learn these skills and it's great to know that I feel confident in helping someone in an emergency now thanks to Whitney's expertise. I would recommend taking a class with Whitney to anyone!
What can I say, I am proud to be part of the Rock House family and music community John and Cathy McCarthy have established. Our 6-year-old daughter joined the “Little Rockers” group in September 2016 exploring the basics of vocals, drums, and guitar. Not a full year has gone by and I can’t get over how much she has already learned; and the best part is, she is having fun! In addition to the weekly lessons, we love attending Open Mic Nights at the West Haven Community House. The entire Rock House team provides an opportunity for amazing talent to shine front and center. The monthly event is a great way for kids to be with their peers and share their love of music with the community. The future of music is right here in our own backyard at Rock House School of Music!!
Barb's Continuo Home Music Lessons provided home lessons to my son. Not only was the instructor very talented, but they knew exactly how to interact with a young person to keep his interest throughout the lesson and encouraged practicing beyond the lesson. Barb is always prompt and goes out of her way to accomodate scheduling issues.
I love his enthusiasm and methods to teach. He's an awesome musician and my daughter enjoys lessons very much.
I'm really learning a lot with Viky. She has the fundamentals down and is able to teach them. I'm really enjoying the lessons
I am writing this review to share my experience and praise a truly exceptional mentor and teacher. David Gleba is a teacher that I can support with absolute resolve and admiration. I had taken years of private lessons with David and under his tutelage I had excelled much faster than I did with my previous teacher. This is no cookie cutter lesson and it is completely individualized to the student's specific needs and level of classical training. From beginner to advanced, any musician can learn from David Gleba. He was trained by the best, including the late Leopold Godowsky III. He is an exceptional person as well as a classical genius. If you wish to learn and train with the best then David is your man! Even though I was short on time during my high school years, David was understanding and continued to teach at an advanced level. He did not cut me short and instead gave me his full time and attention with each lesson, even if we went over time. I cannot express my gratitude for the skills and knowledge he has passed on to me. In addition to his teaching ability and raw passion as a pianist and composer he has a quick intellect, witty humor, and quirky fun personality (always popular with the children). David delivers an unforgettable experience for students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill level. He has a tremendous ability to uphold clarity and to communicate complex concepts, characteristic of the lessons he gives. I highly recommend and would like to personally validate, as a past student, what a responsible, fun, and intelligent teacher and mentor David is. Teachers have a great responsibility when they choose their profession: to teach and mentor future generations, passing on their knowledge to new individuals with care, passion, and understanding. David fulfills this role and passes on his knowledge with dedication, compassion, and a bountiful dose of witty humor. If you are considering David but would like to have a student reference and speak with someone previously taught by him, please ask for my contact info and I will be more than happy to talk with you and share my experience further!
I have had one lesson but I will definitely go back
Joyce has been teaching my son trumpet for 3 years. How do I appreciate her? Let me count the ways! - Son played trumpet in school band throughout middle school before starting lessons with Joyce. He strongly resisted learning to sight read all those years. Joyce had him (happily!) sight reading within the first few months. - Joyce helped my son correct some technique problems which were frustrating him. His progress was impressive, and he won a coveted spot in the area all-state band. - Joyce is open to working with music that her students enjoy. Jazz improvisation has become a staple of lessons that my son looks forward to, and solos in his school jazz band have flowed from this. - Whenever I listen in on lessons I always hear laughter. Even when my son is tired and grumpy before a lesson, he comes out of the lesson feeling great. -Joyce loves cats! Your cat will be treated like royalty whenever Joyce is around.
I had my first lesson with Barbara this week, and it was better than I could have imagined! I've played flute for many years, but I've always wanted to develop my voice. I've never taken vocal lessons, so I was nervous about singing in front of a stranger. Barbara made the whole experience fun and informative. She's patient and has an amazing ear for detecting which notes are difficult or slightly off for me. I learned a lot about myself and my abilities in just one session. I'm so happy I came across Barbara's services and am excited to continue developing my voice.
Started learning the piano last year at the young age of 57. Bought a inexpensive upright and a couple of books. Did the youtube thing also. Didn't have cash for lessons.(or maybe just didn't want to pay for them).Anyway, a year later i honestly felt i could only go so far without personal direction. Finding this website I stumbled upon Maria. I have completed five lesson now. At first i was completely uncomfortable trying to play in front of her. She reassured me that this was normal. Her professional demeanor helped me feel at ease. Theory wise she explains things in a way that i can pick up on in mins.( sometimes i couldn't even find ans on the internet). I always leave her with a sense of confidence. She seems to know how to push you just enough to excel to the next step. Never ever any pressure. Marie picks up on your weaknesses and targets them. As you can tell from my review i feel very lucky to have found her. I look forward to continuing my weekly lessons. Marie was born to teach. FIVE STARS across the board.
I am a history professor at CCSU, and Matt came to my attention through the recommendation of our Music faculty. Prof. Linda Laurent knew I was looking for a student or former student who could teach a 50+ history geek who hadn’t played in over forty years. She immediately responded that Matt was my person. Matt is an excellent teacher, in part because he is a good listener. We started in January, and before we did anything he asked what my goals were, how quickly I wanted to move along, and why I wanted to learn to play. He then had me play a little of what I had been tinkering with and we set up a plan. Knowing that I never intend to audition for an orchestra, but that I was hoping to use music as recreation, relaxation, and as a means to enjoy learning something new, Matt then structured our lessons. We meet every second week for an hour. During the lessons, Matt is great. We first talk about what I got to, what I enjoyed, what went well, and where I had trouble. He then has me play a bit (only stopping me when I’m WAY off track), and then he reminds me about technique or form. We use a couple of books, but he does more than just “assign” the next piece. We talk about what skills and methods the piece is helping me learn. He asks how I practice a new piece, and then I attempt to learn something new while he is there so he can watch my process. His corrections are clear and helpful, never judgmental. If I am not getting something, he will play a bit to show me or have me try other ways to figure it out. I’ve especially enjoyed his explanations about music theory. He gives a very clear explanation of chords, scales, and why certain notes go together. I can then hear that (surprisingly!) in my own halting attempts. That’s cool. This approached has worked for me. I’m sure Matt will have a different, and equally effective, approach for a young child just learning or a high school student hoping for a music scholarship. I can't recommend him more highly.
Great lessons, learn a lot and have fun while doing it. Dennis is a great teacher, patient and instructive. A great thing about Dennis is he always is supportive if you want to learn a certain thing. Great teacher and great guy.
Chris is a great music teacher and his rates are affordable. My nine year old really likes him and looks forward to the lessons.
Victoria is a wonderful teacher and person. We started understanding and combining simple phrases while travelling in Spanish speaking country after couple of months of her lessons. And after a year I already had working knowledge of Spanish.
Veronique is a joy to work with! She is patient and kind, which is critical when learning a new language. She paces the student appropriately, and offers many resources for augmenting the lessons, and is always readily available for questions. She's a delight to be with, and charges fair prices.
Rachel is instructing my 10 year old special needs child. She is patient and gentle with him and he adores her. I would recommend her highly.
