I want to first start by saying thank you to thumbtack and Erik, without thumbtack I would not have found Erik my drum instructor. Erik is very thorough very professional an extremely educated in his craft I've never seen anything like it before. If you were going to learn the drums he is your guy hands down a bona fide Maniac badass when it comes to teaching with his method you cannot go wrong. I can't even imagine learning from anybody else or any other method than Erik's. I've learned more in 2 weeks than I did the whole year I've been drumming on my own and in a month 2 months I'm already intermediate starting from nothing. Thank you thumbtack again and thank you Mr Egol for the opportunity to have you as a teacher I am very thankful to have you as my professional teacher. Thank you all again I could go on and on.

I look forward to my lessons with Erik every week, and I can't really say that to most of the other hobby lessons I've had in the past.. Not only is he a master drummer (teaches advanced drummers, many for several years), he makes the learning process interesting and empowering for everyone (beginners or experienced), not to mention he's fun and easy to work with. Erik is structured in his teaching style (he'll list out your practices very clearly) and gives out reasonable amount of things to practice so you don't feel overwhelmed but still challenged. He really knows how to breaks complex things into smaller and achievable steps! Of course if you want to make progress, you should put in some time to practice, which I'd say about 2-3 times per week for a 45 min weekly lesson. I'm super grateful to have Erik to be my drum teacher. As a beginner, he made me love drumming, showed me how amazing it is, introduced me to new and impressive artists, and I have all the more admiration and respect to all drummers. No hesitation if you were to ask me who I'd recommend for drum lessons.

I've been taking drumset and percussion lessons with a Erik for 8 years or so now, starting in my 30s from a point where I couldn't hit the drum evenly several times in a row, to a point where I play percussion with several community orchestras, and occasionally play small paid gigs (this is a hobby for me, so these days I don't even have much time to improve my playing outside of the lessons and homework). Erik has a well thought out teaching method and breadth of knowledge of various styles and tricks of the trade that he knows how to teach effectively. And he builds a personal connection with his students and is always happy to see the recordings of them playing with bands and giving encouragement and pointing out things to improve.

My son has been taking drum lessons from Erik for a few months now. Erik is super knowledgeable and patient. My son looks forwards to his weekly lessons and has really developed his drum skills. I would 100 percent recommend Erik to anyone looking to learn the drums.

Erik is awesome! My kid has learned so much over the past year and it’s all due to Erik’s lessons and teaching style. He’s patient, kind, and reads his students well. Erik is also super responsive and amenable with schedules, and he’s been instrumental (no pun intended) in helping us get the right drums at the right pace for our son. Finally, he’s just a great guy, super easy to talk to and I have a great time getting his recap (and my son’s) after each lesson. Just all around awesome. Thanks Erik!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Online: $60/30min, $70/45min, $80/hr At-Your-Home (Newtown CT area only): $65/30min, $75/45min
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For absolute beginners and first timers, we will always begin with proper technique, basic reading materials, a discussion of how and how often to practice and a bit of an explanation of how the basic foundation will set up success in the future. For drummers with previous experience, I will initially assess strengths and weaknesses based on a few playing examples, and, in addition, will discuss the immediate and long-term goals of the student who has chosen to study further. We will immediately begin filling in any gaps/weak points or technique issues that are holding the student back from their goals or potential, and address the personal, specific goals and reasoning for studying, simultaneously.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelors of Music Degree in percussion performance and professional music, Berklee College of Music, class of '95. Studied with Bob Gullotti, Giovanni Hidalgo, Terry Bozzio, John Riley. 20 years on the road, over 3000 concerts, 15 records.
