Hired American Brothers a number of times from simple to complex roofing work. They continue to impress with courtesy and quality work. They come right out to give an estimate (price is always reasonable), and they complete the work on time. I recommend them and will hire as long as I can.

I had Mr. Roman fix quite a few problematic areas in my home. He arrived at the appointed time as discussed and was very professional. I needed some roofing repairs and plumbing work done and decided to give Thumbtact a try. I must say that he did a wonderful job with both and his work quality is impeccable. I highly recommend Mr. Roman for quality work. He's my new go to for all my home issues. Thank you Mr. Roman. 5 stars all the way!

I had work done by another contractor. Not one from the Thumbtack web site. BIG MISTAKE!!! nertil from London Const. came and explained what needed to be done to fix the shoddy work done by the other contractor. I started to do it, but found it very difficult to do. I called nertil and asked him if he would do it. He said yes, provided a very reasonable price, fixed the problem and then did the paver sealing that I had originally asked to be done. What had looked like a dirty paver driveway, was turned into a very pretty terracotta and light grey driveway. A number of my neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. nertil did a great job. I would recommend him to my family and friends. Thanks again nertil.

Eddie and his team were amazing to work with. I spoke to a numbet of roofing contractors and he was the one who came most prepared for the conversation. He provideded a fair assessment of the work needed (it was a big job!) and a fair price. He finished in the time and budget he had quoted. Honestly I can't say one bad thing and wholeheartedly recommend this company. Thank you for the honest, quick and fair work - much appreciated!!

We enjoyed working with Quito's Contractors for our siding project. We have an older house so, naturally, there were some bumps along the way. Felix and his team handled them in a very professional manner and still got the job done when they said they would. We would definitely recommend Quito's Contractors!

Good experience. Jose came for a quote and went up on the roof to see what was needed, as opposed to some other contractors who looked at Google Earth to determine roof condition..(!?). Work was completed promptly and at the quoted price. Would hire again and recommend.

One of the very best contractors I have ever worked with. Removed and installed my guesthouse roof on the day scheduled in 8 hours. Perfect! That they have a dedicated scheduler means you are always kept informed. Sheetrock installers arrived next business day. Very responsive and punctual. Excellent teamwork.

I chose Henry Guzman and CT Masonry & Waterproofing to replace my roof because he came in with a very good price (lowest out of the 3 estimates) but for most important to me are the excellent reviews I read about the company. I was not disappointed. Henry and his crew arrived at my residence at the scheduled time and finished the same day. His crew did an excellent job on my roof. They were very polite, answered all my questions and did a very thorough clean up of the property. It was a pleasure to work with Henry and I would highly recommend CTM&W.

It is my pleasure to recommend the excellent work of Rick Doggett who was the general contractor for a remodeling project of my apartment in Jersey City. From the initial interaction and proposal phase through construction and the timely completion of the job, Rick and his crew performed at the highest level of professionalism, work ethics, and dedication. The work involved a complete re-structure of the internal floor plan, moving walls, installing new fixtures, hardwood floor and carpet, electrical, plumbing, and painting, while communicating with an owner who was not on location. I would, with no hesitation, engage Rick in any future construction or remodeling that will come-up. Thank you Rick and crew for a wonderful job.

I followed up on your recommendation of Webster Home Improvements. Beginning with Jane, in the office, my experience with this company was overwhelmingly positive. Practicality dictated our decision, and we ended up hiring another contractor. But it is certainly not any reflection Webster Home Improvements. I know that this is a very different sort of review than you usually receive but I feel that Brien of Webster Home Improvements deserves all the kudos for going above and beyond in his effort to please us. Sincerely, A Very Satisfied Customer, Laurie

I wish to comment and give you a very favorable report on OM Construction Contractors. This group made this type of long distance building project a pleasure. OM Construction Contractors is the type of contractor that you want to have representing your product. Hats off to their superintendent, who made all the work behind the scenes come together for a wonderful finished product.

Showed up in time and was very informative about the project and potential issues with roof and gutter systems. After the estimate, went right to work cleaning gutters that same afternoon. Was available for communication after the work for any questions I had regarding any project.

Asar roofing restoration has done an amazing job on my roof, before they had came to help. I had several other roofing companies come, none able to fix my leaking problem properly. After Asar stopped by and did my roof, I had no leaking problems afterwards. They are fast and and Efficient, though it takes awhile. Which is understandable, they get the job done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
