Harry did a terrific job in every respect — from installing blinds, a smoke detector, and a full length mirror, to hanging cabinets and various pieces of art (including one more than 7 feet wide, which he mounted on a plaster wall perfectly level), fixing an outdoor gate, and staining outdoor steps. All the work was done with meticulous care and concern to be meeting our needs. We will definitely have him back for other projects. It's a privilege to recommend him to others!

Marty had to install a new microwave for us. It entailed refitting a cabinet, making it half the original size, and installing the microwave there. The project was in good hands. Marty spoke with my husband, came up with a feasibile plan and then he executed perfectly. He cut the existing cabinet in half and also made the door to fit! Marty was very professional, Very respectful, has a careful eye for details and was not done until he was 100% satisfied.

Jack is an absolute must hire. He was open to doing a wide variety of jobs and did all of them well. He spent the day fixing a split oak stair tread, patching drywall, changing out shower heads and faucet knobs, moved some cabinets up so my new washer would fit underneath, fixed screws backing out of cabinet doors, mounted a mirror and towel rack...pretty much all those lingering odds and ends. Jack was on time, very personable, cleans up after himself, and absolutely someone I trust. Been looking for someone like Jack for years. Give him a try, you'll be glad you did!

I have seen the work he has done for others over the years, concert risers for my church, an Adirondack 3 season room addition for a friend, as well as several other projects. His work is always excellent. I hired him to build a wall cabinet for my new home to store wine and hang stemware. I am very pleased with the result.

We own and manage roughly 70 tenants. Mix of commercial and residential. Rome started off with a small pint job and did such an excellent job he has been doing all sorts of work for our company now. Not only does Romeprovide quality work at reasonable rates, he is always on time and is a pleasure to work with. Rome has now done wall painting, Sheetrocked a garage, installed flooring, and is now painting kitchen cabinets for us. Highly reccomend Rome!

Dan was hired to assemble and install IKEA cabinets in the kitchen. He did an impressive job they look beautiful. It was part of remodeling of our kitchen and as a contractor he scheduled his time around and with both the electrician and plumber. It soon became apparent that his skills on other parts of the renovation was invaluable. He opened the kitchen up in ways we didn't know was possible and offered ideas in the design that made our little kitchen more spacious then we thought possible. His help with coordinating color and patterns made this old kitchen in to something you might see in a magazine. We love it Thank you Dan! My Mother is a bit of a perfectionist and making her happy can be a task at times, but he accomplished it with a very professional attitude and skill. I have worked with other contractors before who can be tempermental with poor communication and disappearing for weeks at a time Not Dan he always kept me in the loop and was available for every concern. As for any improvement in hind sight the kitchen floor should have been covered the whole time because the plaster dust was somewhat difficult to scrub off the floor. And can I mention he did this while 2 small kids were Home on vacation and often in the way. His patients are to be admired as he always had a good sense of humor and a positive attitude.

Custom Woodwork built a custom TV corner cabinet for our home. The design was made off of a photo that I found on the internet and was altered to match our specific needs and likes. The price was spot on compared to other quotes I had received. Bruce work very well with us on the design and layout making sure we were in alignment with all of the choices being made. The quality of the work was exceptional and we receive positive feedback everytime we have guests visiting our home.

Gabriel and his team have done great work for me inside the house and on the exterior of the home. Inside they did painting, installed built-in cabinets, crown moldings, new doors, lighting, and fixed a plumbing leak. Outside they installed shutters, siding, gutters, fencing, and did other work. Their attention to detail was impressive and fees reasonable. I would highly offer them a recommendation.

Morrissey is kind, he listens, and is totally professional. He is strong on guidance, but good on trying to make happen exactly what I was dreaming about. Right now we are in the midst of bookshelf installation. I am just as confident now that I made a good choice.

I didn't hire Roman to finish my cabinets (yet) but he did do a considerable amount of interior repair work -- woodwork, painting etc. --and his work was exemplary. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Roman, who is also a very pleasant person to deal with.

I have been doing this most of my life. Just because you own the tools does not make you a craftsman. Constantly honing your craft and looking for new ways to improve quality and taking pride in your work makes you a craftsman. I guarantee most of what I do for life. That means it must be done and done right the first time.

About

I build and install custom kitchens and bathrooms. I have a large shop fully set up to build just about anything and have been doing it for almost 30 years. About

I began working as a carpenter in 1976, doing construction and carpentry. Over the years, I honed my skills as a finished carpenter to become one of the top artisans in the Connecticut area. Though my skills allow me to do anything in construction, my favorite areas to work in are building custom cabinets, carpentry designs and trim work. I also only use furniture-grade materials on all of my cabinets. Please feel free to browse the photos above, and contact me if you have any questions. My customers favorite tag line for me is: " The cleanest contractor around with 30 years of exceptional experience." My work includes all phases of construction, with expertise in cabinet making, trim work, stairways, ballisters and window/door installations, but my skills do not end there as I can do tiling, painting, foundations, decks, fences, railing, flooring and so much more. Please check out my website for examples of some of my work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
