I had my entire 4 bedroom house and downstairs basement's carpet cleaned and Katt Carpet did a great job. My downstairs carpets were given extra treatment due to my cat's "accidents". He even came back an extra time to completely get out the urine smell. He cleaned the grout in my kitchen tiles and went beyond expectations by moving out my refrigerator and stove to clean underneath! Highly recommend him for quick responsiveness and staying with the job until it was done!

Maria and her team were great and professional! They were thorough, and very careful with all the different surfaces and all my things. My floors are shiny, the tiles are clean, the bath is white as snow. All the little annoying things, like fixtures and skirting are dust-free. All in all this was a great experience and I would certainly recommend Amity Cleaning Services, they are reliable and professional, communication was easy, everything went very smooth.

Very happy with the service. My house has original tile & carpet from 1986. After Chem Clean's visit, carpet look like new, tile floors are cleaner than they've been in decades, grout appearance greatly improved! Fellows were professional and efficient. Adam, owner, patiently answered my many questions. I definitely recommend Chem Clean's services and crew.

We have been using Mike Workman as our sole home carpet cleaner for the past 12 years and love his quality. We have come to depend on his knowledge and expertise that even got Tumeric stain out of our carpet! What a delight when he added tile grout cleaning. We had a carpet in our kitchen. It looked pretty as long as no one moved it. There was an outline of color difference where the carpet had been. But now… the entire floor sparkles the same and you can not tell where the carpets had been on the tiles before. You will be delighted with Mike’s quality and professionalism. Tell your friends! Aleister did an outstanding job. He was very professional, efficient, and cleaned up after the flooring tiles and plywood was removed. His fee was extremely reasonable based on the difficulty and complexity of the work. I highly recommend his services.

Orange Cleaning Services did a fantastic job cleaning the old tile and grout in the bathrooms of my 100-year-old home. They were extremely professional, thorough, on time, and really cared about the quality of the job they were doing. Plus they were super nice. I couldn't be happier! I would definitely hire them again for any of the other cleaning services they provide.

BTR Tile & Stone was hired to tile our kitchen backsplash. This was the last item in our complete kitchen renovation. After contacting BTR by email, I promptly received an email back from the owner Jeff. Jeff's response provided a base price, time frame and a breakdown of what the costs covered. This was very helpful for planning and budgeting. Based on the quote and BTR's photos of recent jobs found on the Internet, Jeff was hired to tile the kitchen backsplash. Jeff completed the job on time and within budget and it came out beautiful. Jeff is not only a tradesman, he is an artist. We have an old 1920's home with not so perfect walls and Jeff took the time to fix the weak spots and fill in any waves in the walls before apply the tile. The tile looks great and compliments our renovated kitchen! Jeff also did a great job with the grout and caulk. We plan on hiring Jeff again when other tile needs arise. I plan on sending Jeff photos of the completed job so prospective customers may view Jeff’s quality of work. Thank You! -The Smith’s

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
