Eve was an outstanding tutor for the ISEE. We hired her with just 6 weeks to go until the test - we had been using a New Haven-based tutoring company that just was not doing the job - in that very short period of time Eve managed to coach our daughter from the middle of the pack (ISEE steniles 4 and 5) toward the top (stiles 6 and 7). Plus she was very flexible about scheduling and was amenable to meeting our daughter in New Haven. We only wish we'd enlisted her sooner! We will definitely seek her assistance for our next set of test preps!

I contacted Altea because I was studying for the GRE. I had not taken a math course in 24 years, and I had very little memory of Algebra and Geometry. Altea and I met within a week of our first contact, and we met weekly after that. She is wonderful tutor. Her knowledge and passion for math was just what I needed to get excited about an exam that scared me so much. She was always on time and was always prepared. Altea is kind and patient, and she has a wonderful sense of humor. I highly recommend Altea for help with coursework and/or test preparation.

Laura was so great. Our 9th grader needed last minute help prepping for a Geometry midterm. Laura was super-responsive and engaged, and made time for us the day after we posted our Thumbtack ad. She was able to work through all of the prep packet in a way that made it MUCH clearer than our daughter's teacher had. We are so grateful.

John helped me prepare for the ACT. He was very professional. He would send email reminders a day before our session, he would make the sessions fun. After he would send a follow up email explaining what we did during the session and what I needed to work on for tbr next session. He made the test prep easy. He was vert calm and patient, and that helped me to feel more comfortable.

Ken Cyprus was my math tutor from eighth grade to senior year of high school. While all other subjects came easily to me, math was a difficult subject for me, and it was holding me back from having the high GPA I could have. With Ken's tutoring, I was always the highest performing student in my math class and never worried about my GPA being impacted by math again. Throughout the years, certain math teaching styles wouldn't work for me, and I struggled with the material, but Ken never let me give up. He worked not only on my math aptitude but also my confidence and I became a more engaged math student. Ken would give me test problems, help me study, and create material catered to my specific weaknesses so that by the time a test came, I could do it on my own. He was also able to help me score higher than I ever thought I could on the SAT. Now, as I go into my senior year of Barnard College and am getting ready to graduate with both a degree from an Ivy League institution and that of an elite liberal arts college, I look back with immense gratitude for Ken. I couldn't have gotten here without him.

Rob helped me enormously as a writing tutor. From term papers that were due the next day to college transfer application essays, he will guide you through every word for clarity and sense. Unlike other writing tutors that just proofread or merely gave their two cents, Rob stays with you throughout most of the writing process. He quickly identifies your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. In fact, he helped me throughout my years at Norwalk Community College until I transferred to Columbia University in the Fall of 2014. I remember telling my mother that I wouldn't be in the Ivy League if it weren't for this awesome human who would often work with me until the late hours of the night. We would go over syntax structure and even semantics at 2 am. He is among the most generous and amicable individuals whom I have met so far in my life. Rob truly wants to see his clients succeed and treats every assignment with the utmost care and excellence. You can't go wrong with Rob as your personal English Mentor!

About

My name is Svetlana. I have a PhD in linguistics and a certificate in teaching Russian as a foreign language from the Pushkin Institute. I have over 30 years of experience teaching linguistic disciplines to Russian and international students. I have taught such courses as speech development, Russian grammar and an intensive course of the Russian language to American, German, Austrian, Chinese, Czech and Korean students. I worked with students from the beginning to advanced level. I also authored a number of textbooks on how to speak Russian properly for foreign students. My approach to teaching is to provide a fun and interactive environment where a student can master speaking the language from the very first class. I could also introduce you to some cultural specifics of using the language in various everyday situations.

About

I provide high-quality, personalized SAT tutoring for anyone having trouble with the Verbal section (reading and writing). I'm a certified state educator with 7 years of SAT-tutoring experience. I've developed an efficient, effective method that focuses on concrete strategies and techniques for each question type. I focus on one thing: getting test scores up. As a result, every single one of my students over the past 7 years has shown marked improvement. I personalize every course for the individual student. I utilize Socratic-style methods to ensure that the student is working for every minute of the class - thinking, debating, and processing - and not just listening to me talk. I also bring a high-energy, fun attitude to my lessons; one that acknowledges that the SAT is no fun for anyone, but is beatable by everyone. If your student needs help on the verbal portion of the SAT, I'm your man, even if you've tried classes or programs before.
