I attended a wedding celebration for a friend at The Rhinecliff Hotel. This is where we met Nick from The Best of Both Worlds. The first thing we noticed was the big Photo Booth that our friends and other guests were waiting online for. We took part in the photo booth and we were very pleased with the props, the instant print out of clear pictures and we were amazed on how user friendly Nick's photo booth was. While getting our picture prints I met videographer who was placing a video camera inside the photo booth to record. I was curious to know what this was. The Videographer explained to me that this was an additional service for the groom and bride. Not only would we get our pictures taken, but he was preparing a slow motion video photo booth montage. This footage would be added along with a funny song, uploaded online, and a link would be given to the Groom and Bride to share with all the guests as an extra party favor. I was thrilled with the idea, and I was interested in knowing more about his services. He quickly introduced me to his wife who was the photographer. I turns out that this husband and wife team work with Nick and provide video and photography services. Along with this and the lights, video projectors, Nick does truly have the best of both worlds. We were so please with the entire presentation of my friends Wedding, that my fiancee and I have decided to book Nick and his team for our own wedding and we are also recommending him to 2 friends of ours who will be having birthday celebrations in early 2017. Best of Both Worlds has it all, DJs, Performers, lights, video screens, photo booth, video and photography services all under one umbrella. This certainly makes our life easier when it comes down to booking.

Rob did an excellent job on short notice as videographer for a corporate event. He was very thorough in pre-planning, execution at the event, and delivered footage quickly, which we greatly appreciated as it helps keep our audience that could not attend this in-person event engaged.

Larry videoed our wedding on Saturday, April 29th. From the start, Larry has been very professional and patient in explaining the whole process to us. We received the video three days after the wedding, which is unheard of. Once we viewed it we absolutely loved it! He captured all the important parts, and gave great attention to detail. We will highly recommend him and have already recommended him to friends and co-workers. Keep up the great work Larry! I'm so glad we picked you as our videographer. :-) Sakinah & John McLaughlin

I have been commissioning artists like L. Llewellyn, to create tasteful nude illustrations of live models, for a published compilation. I had asked L. Llewellyn to attend some nude art model workshops, and bring us back the finished results. L. Llewellyn showcased a brilliant attention to detail, coupled with a incredible amount of inventiveness in his own variety of pen and ink illustrations of both nude male and female models. We would strongly recommend hiring L. Llewellyn for any project that involves portraiture, caricature, family-friendly as well as "avant-garde" art projects in either digital or traditional media....

Thijs was amazing. From the initial meeting that I had with him, Thijs had a great energy and outlook. On the wedding day, Thijs and Cortland arrived on time, eager to begin shooting the wedding activities. They were both calm, excited, and mindful throughout the entire day. Thijs filmed throughout the entire wedding day, without intruding. He captured every moment in his own way, and made sure to not miss a beat. I would one hundred percent recommend Thijs to anyone looking for a videographer. He was so much fun to work with!

Sal and his team was extremely professional and they made a great video for our wedding. I was hesitant to have a videographer amongst all of the other vendors we had at our wedding but when my Wife and I met Sal it felt like a perfect fit. When we received our video my wife and I were both amazed by the great work and were extremely happy that we decided to hire Sal. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a videographer that is professional , easy going, provides high quality , and most of all makes sure all the right moments are captured. Thank you Sal!

This is a review of J. Isolini Photography and Video. I had requested professional services of a photographer through Thumbtack.com to capture my wedding proposal at local park in Rockland County, NY in August 2014. After submitting my request on Thumbtack.com and after discussions with multiple photographers, I decided to go with Jason because he was the only photographer who took the time and effort to respond in detail to my questions and requests. He went above and beyond to help me figure out the best scenario as I was still trying to figure out locations, dates, and other things to make my proposal memorable. Jay provided ideas and had suggested areas through my correspondences with him. More than a photographer, he was a wedding proposal planner :-) Jay was very professional, courtesy and quick from the beginning and that helped me select him over 4 other photographers that I was talking too. Perhaps it was the details in his responses that made me select him over others. It was as if Jay had cared about my wedding proposal as if it was his very own  In addition to photos, I had inquired if he could provide video of the moment. Jay had suggested that his friend could help him capture the moment for me as he was more of professional with video than Jay was. I had no idea what he was about to produce for me would be this AMAZING. He totally blew me (and viewers of the video) away with what he produced. He kept saying that the video would be amazing and helped a nervous guy (especially the day of) calm down. He had a time lapse video included, an interview voice-over and the use of a Steady cam and Go-Pro camera all in his video. Jay went from a photographer to a videographer to a producer all for me! One of the things I remember about what Jay produced for me was his suggestion of scouting the location(s) prior to capturing it on photo and video. This is something most professionals tend not to do, due to their busy schedules. I appreciate the time he took to help me figure out the locations and best spot for the proposal to happen. The amount of time he spent in figuring out the location and editing the final product made me realize I made the right choice in going with Jay. I was still debating a few locations leading up the date of the shoot and Jay was able to meet up at the location and check out what we can do and choose the best spot for background, noise filtering, and lighting. He even hiked a small trail with his camera gear to scout another possible location! Jay was dedicated to me, his first time client and the best location for the shoot! Another thing I had inquired to Jay about was the need to show the photos taken on the day of the proposal at a local restaurant with family and friends. There was a projector and screen to show my family and friends who couldn’t make it to the proposal. Jay was able to quickly edit 10 photos on his laptop in his car after the shoot and place them on a USB drive for me. It was great to show the moment and the shots to my friends who weren’t there. Jay was confident in his shots and was able to provide the stills at a short notice. Jay’s turn-around time was remarkable, especially the video he edited and produced. I had told him that I preferred the video a week after to show our family and friends and he delivered it in TWO (2) DAYS fully edited. Most people would take a lot longer especially edited video. I appreciate Jay’s hard work, dedication and commitment in my request. After the shoot, I had asked Jay to see if he could crop one of the photos and even delete a person out of the shot. He went the extra mile in doing that for me. Overall, I am highly pleased with Jay’s services and expertise and highly recommend him. He is an up and coming photographer in the area and loves the challenges that each product brings. For my request, He had to switch from photo to video in an instant and got some great shots for me. If you’re looking for someone who is up for the challenge and can provide some insight into a small plan you have, I would suggest going with Jason Isolini. A highly satisfied customer, Justin C.

It was an absolute pleasure working with Jonathan on my project. I was recently made redundant and as a result, decided to leverage an upcoming conference to put together a short video bio that would provide a personal introduction to potential recruiters (beyond my resume). After reviewing several potential videographers, I contacted Jonathan who I found to be very engaging, responsive and willing to work within my short timeline. His flexibility in working with a fluid situation and willingness to assist with the creative and provide suggestions on how to present myself in the best way was greatly appreciated. Jonathan was exceedingly professional and went above and beyond what was expected. His years of experience in the professional broadcast sector was evident in his knowledge and approach and went far beyond what I had expected. This is the first time I’ve put together a project like this and I truly appreciated his ability to collaborate and assist with the interview segment, and to shoot, edit and shape my story into a cohesive, insightful and entertaining presentation. Given the short time constraint, Jonathan was organized, punctual and very easy to work with. I was very pleased with the final product which was professional-grade. I would certainly recommend Jonathan for any video venture, be it commercials, personal greetings and corporate presentations that you might need an experienced hand involved in creating.

DirectLine Media did an outstanding job filming the Annual Meeting for Child & Family Agency. David Chmielewski captured the essential elements of the program and conducted several short interviews after. His camera work is excellent. C&FA plans to use the video footage for a short film edited in Final Cut Pro. David provided a variety of well composed shots to work with. He is very professional and I plan to engage his services again on other projects.

Franciska is an excellent communicator and professional videographer. She makes sure every little details before, during and after the filming. Those details make the filming process very smoothly. She also follows the direction and standards for our project and the final videos look very great. After the filming, she immediately uploaded the videos and gave quick update of the filming. She is also very flexible for the time and payment. I highly recommend her if you want to have a pleasant experience for your video project!

18 Mile Productions was the best part of planning my wedding. Connor listened to every word and request I had as the bride and exceeded every expectation. He was professional, kind, patient, and so tuned into what was happening at the wedding. To see a young man have such dedication to doing what he loves is refreshing. He will go far in life. If you even have a sliver of doubt in your mind about booking his company as a videographer, DON'T!!!!!!!!! I am so happy to have this video to remember our special day forever. And nobody could've done it better than him.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
