Introduction: Hello! I am pianist/vocalist Jonathan Chatfield. I perform and teach Classical, Jazz, Classic and Modern Rock piano or any other style to students of all ages and abilities. I am a graduate of the Oblerlin College Conservatory of Music with a B.M in Jazz Studies: Piano. I have over 25 years of teaching and performance experience including beginning voice lessons. I taught piano, recording, ensembles, composition and music theory at the Greater Hartford Academy for the Arts for 13 years. I also provide live music accompaniment and solo or band entertainment. I was a bit nervous starting piano lessons in my 70s but Jonathan has given me such encouragement and praise that I am eager to take on increasingly challenging pieces. He is very attentive both to my strengths and to things I need to work on. Lessons are stimulating and very rewarding. I have seen him perform in groups and solo piano - he is superb!

My daughterhas been taking lessons with Johnathan for 6/7 months now. We came from out if state where she had been with another instructor for about a year and a half. We are so glad that we found Jonathan! My daughter is 6, and she really loves music so we did not want the old strict standard teacher who might end up making her hate the piano. Jonathan is amazing with kids and also an extremely talented pianist. He is so patient and calm, and brings a natural enjoyment to the lessons. He plays duets with my daughter during lesson (even with my other kid jumping around!) which I feel brings an important depth to my daughter's understanding of music. I really feel that with Jonathan as our teacher, my daughter will continue to love and enjoy music.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are $30 a half hour, $40 for 45 minutes and $50 for an hour if you come to my home studio. I charge an additional $5-10 if I drive to your house depending on how far it is.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first lesson is a free half hour at my house or yours and we will go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a performing pianist and vocalist as well as playing and singing with my church choir. I graduated from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music with a B.A. in Jazz Studies: piano.
