Rob was great to work with on coordinating the videography of an event out of state, and on short notice too. He was quick to respond via email and happy to navigate a large conference at the Javits Center in order to film one speech for our law firm. Really appreciated his good work!

I wish I could give Neckbones 10 stars! James and his team are nothing short of AMAZING! I hired them for videography, photography and the use of his photo booth for my daughter's Swet 16. I must say that the service was impeccable! The only thing that surpassed their excellent service was their incredible rates! I will definitely be using them for future events and I recommend you do too! You will not be disappointed!!!!

Marc Cacho and MC Visuals were very professional. Through out my wedding planning process he worked with me and made adjustments to my contract as necessary. The day of my wedding his crew was very flexible and made sure to capture my special moments with elegance and class. I had a wonderful stress free experience. It was a blessing to be able to find a team that included photographers and a videographer at such a reasonable price.

We hired Bob for our wedding video, and wanted a combination of styles. I couldn't be more pleased. The one thing that stands out the most about Bob the most is his attention to detail and he is extremely efficient. Bob is also very hard working, and unlike some of our vendors who took a few breaks/took time to sit around a little - Bob was the one who was ON it. He was there to work and do the job, but is also very kind and flexible. Bob is very reliable - he showed up early to start, and through the day he was at the proper locations and showed early to all of them. I am extremely happy with Bob's work and would not hesitate to hire again.

JUNE 30, 2015 was our wedding day, not only that but it was the celebration of our 8 year anniversary with our closest friends and family. Raul captured so many beautiful pictures and I can feel the feeling I had at that exact moment when I look at them. He captured not only pictures of us but our family/friends drinking and laughing. We enjoyed working with him and he's so easy going. We can't wait to see all of the photos!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH RAUL.

We just got our wedding photos back less than a week after our wedding and they are all beautiful. They arrived at our house early in the morning to photograph the wedding prep and were extremely nice and pleasant throughout the day which helped keep my wife and I calm when we were starting to get nervous about various aspects of the wedding. We can't recommend them enough!

Can't express to you how great Orly was shooting our wedding. Very professional, laidback, has a great artistic flair, but is subtle about asking you to set up shots. We hardly knew he was there , but yet he seemed to be everywhere recording all the best moments. Our highlight video was stunning. I really have never seen such a well put together video, from the hollywood movie like editing, to the wide panning , sharp angles and artistic flow. He turned our wedding into a cinematic tour de force. Won't be surprised if he hits the big time in in the future as a hollywood director.

Words can not describe how awesome Jason is. When we first met with J he made us feel so comfortable, as if we had known each other for years. He listened to all the type of shots we were looking for and even added more creativity with our pictures, which was more then we could ask for. His editing is outstanding, i am covered in tattoos and J made it look like i never even had them! I was so happy that J took any extra time of his to get any cool shots that any bride or groom would want to have for pictures. The way he takes pictures and gives directions, really makes you feel like a movie star. I was really surprised when I received my pictures in the same week as the wedding, most bride and grooms have to wait months! and i didn't. J really puts in all his effort to get the greatest photo opportunity, his time on making sure your photo is really the perfect photo. Right now all his photos from our wedding are all so good we can't choose which one to have in our frame. I would recommend J to anyone and everyone, he really is that great if there is anytime i am in need of a photographer he will be the first one i call. Thank you J for all of our photos, like i said words really can't describe how great and how much we appreciate you as our photographer.

Franciska is an excellent communicator and professional videographer. She makes sure every little details before, during and after the filming. Those details make the filming process very smoothly. She also follows the direction and standards for our project and the final videos look very great. After the filming, she immediately uploaded the videos and gave quick update of the filming. She is also very flexible for the time and payment. I highly recommend her if you want to have a pleasant experience for your video project!

LJ is WONDERFUL! We were thrilled to work with him after seeing the gorgeous video he made for friends of ours, and the results still have us smiling. He managed to capture both the fun and warmth of our wedding so beautifully, with shots spanning family and friends we will cherish. The “Getting Ready” and “Highlights” segments are perfect—they’re artistic and authentic, with music and energy to match. He was such a pleasure to work with—at the wedding and afterwards—easy, reliable, responsive, knowledgeable, and passionate about his work and his craft. It was a joy to work with him, and now it’s a joy to relive the wedding through the video (however many countless times we’ve already watched it)! Thank you, LJ, for making this so special for us!

Philip was absolutely fantastic! He was professional and considerate throughout the entire process, including the night of our wedding. He did an excellent job of capturing all of our special moments without being too invasive, as many videographers tend to be. He showed up early and stayed late to make sure he had every shot he needed. Our video trailer and full-length video turned out incredible - it has been almost 8 months since the wedding and we still have family and friends requesting to see it again! We would highly recommend Phil for your wedding or any other engagement!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
