The service was easy friendly and on budget. The work encompassed building turnover from a tenant, demolition, cleaning and light touchup painting (drywall work).

Tim did an excellent job with my painting project. The store provided the wrong color and Tim, free of charge, obtained the right color and repainted until it was right. I would definitely work with Tim again.

EJ Painting did a great job repairing the settlement cracks on our ten year old home. They also painted the front door which desperately needed it. They showed up on time and completed the job in a timely manner. We will be using them again come spring....

Highly Highly recommend! The first day they came out and put together coffee tables, couches, hung pictures among many other things. Asked them if they could come back and help me build shelves in my closet the following day and did so. On top of it, they shopped for everything we needed which saved us so much time. If needed, I would definitely hire them again!

I had a gas fireplace installed two years ago. Another contractor did the basic frame and sheetrock around the fireplace but didn't finish the job. Jenrri met with me in person to assessed the job and give a quote for the work. Jenrri was pleasant and professional and my two Westies both liked him. If they didn't like him I wouldn't have hired him. He said the front area around the firebox would need to have the sheetrock replaced with cement board. I was glad he knew this because not having the right materials could be a fire hazard. After meeting with him. I decided to hire him and planned for him to come Feb. 16-19, 2016 to do this job. He did this job with another worker named Melby. Jenrri and I had to buy materials from the store the first day, but Melby stayed and started working. He removed the sheetrock and also cut boards for the shiplap look I wanted on the upper front and sides of the fireplace. Jenrri and Melby completed cutting and installing about half of the boards the first day. They laid tile on the hearth and around the firebox. I had picked large tiles for the hearth and small tiles to go around the firebox. The small tiles took more time to cut and install. Some of the tile around the firebox doesn't lay completely flat because of the screws for the cement board and because the framing around the firebox wasn't level. If I had to pick again I would have picked larger tiles to go around the firebox. They would have been easier to install and wouldn't have shown that the firebox wasn't completely level. After the tile and boards were installed they painted all the boards and the two walls on each side of the fireplace. Then installed the mantle and touched up the painting. They did a very nice job cleaning up when the work was done and even put furniture and a rug back in place. They also completed the job on time. I am happy with my finished fireplace. It looks beautiful. Both Jenrri and Melby work hard and do a good job. Maybe if Jenrri did the whole project instead of finishing someone else's work it would have been perfect. I would hire him again and I would recommend him to others.

We had David come by to repair a pair of holes in our ceiling where there had been water leaks. He was polite and professional, and the work looks very nice. A couple of minor points: a bit of the white ceiling paint got on the yellow-painted wall when it was applied, so we'll have to do some minor touch-up work to it - painter's tape would have prevented this. Clean-up was good but could have been better, as we had to wipe off some stray spackle drips on the wall here and there. Overall though, we're satisfied with the work and the especially the value for our money. Recommended.

Jorge did an awesome job on my staining and painting project. Bonus points for working around the other contractors who were putting in pavers and fixing concrete work on site. I feel I got an excellent price. And finally I was impressed that he kept me updated. He did everything right. Great job. Will call again.

Able to accommodate my work schedule, which included arriving very early (around 6AM) . Were very professional. Did a good job with painting the home with minor areas requiring re-touch ups. Willing to return to take care of those areas as well as paint other walls damaged by the movers. Alex is very easy to talk to and is a full contractor, so able to perform other household jobs requested of him. Would definitely recommend.

First off, early arrival is always best! Then the care, with fixing imperfections before painting. The corrections of overflow paint on the base boards, and on the outlets were cleaned up. The coats are well balanced and any questions I asked were met with answers not guesses. Awesome job!!!! Daniel even went the extra mile to tell me what to do with my running toilet.

Patrick is top notch! He took on recreating a canvas painting for me as a gift to a friend; and did so with stellar results. The quality of work was superb, the turnaround time for him to create this was exceptional, and the commissioned price for his hard work was very much reasonable. I would recommend Patrick to anyone who is looking to have something recreated, or has a vision of what it is they are looking for. He will absolutely bring it to life for you with incredible results!

All I can say is wow! Abi transformed all of our original dark wood doors, door trim and stair baseboards to a beautiful, bright white color. Abi and his coworker worked diligently on the project and made sure everything was perfect and to our liking. His response time and promptness is impeccable. I highly recommend Abi for any painting needs. We will definitely consult him on our next project!

David did an excellent job painting the inside of my home! It's not easy to find trustworthy contractors in Potomac, most try to scam you into something you don't need or charge a ridiculous price because of the area. However, with David, my husband and I could tell immediately that he truly cares about the service his business is providing, and wants you to be happy. He was very quick to respond to my call, gave me a great price, and made sure that I was happy with everything before he left. He was also clean! Very skilled painter.

From our first contact with Cert-Pro, we got the feeling we were dealing with real professionals. Sami Salam came to our house to scope the job in preparation for an estimate. He came prepared with a large folio of that included copies of licenses, proofs of insurance, photos of prior work, and letters from previous customers. He carefully examined the areas that needed work, took lots of photos and listened carefully to our desires. When his estimate came, it wasn’t the lowest, but wasn’t the highest either. It was very detailed and very specific with respect to the work to be performed, which included both carpentry and painting. After receiving several other estimates and meeting other paint contractors personally, we decided that Certa-Pro would be our best choice. We were proven quite right. They set up a specific date and time to do the work, the crews showed up promptly, they worked very diligently, being very careful not to cause any damage to any surrounding plants or property. I spoke with Darwin, the foreman, regarding the carpentry work they needed to do and he explained exactly what was needed and what they planned to do. They finished on time as promised and the work was outstanding. We would certainly recommend them to anyone and will use them again when we need painting done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
